In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I've been turning over in my mind ever since. "Whenever you feel like criticizing any one," he told me, "just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had." He didn't say any more but we've always been unusually communicative in a reserved way, and I understood that he meant a great deal more than that. In consequence I'm inclined to reserve all judgments, a habit that has opened up many curious natures to me and also made me the victim of not a few veteran bores. The abnormal mind is quick to detect and attach itself to this quality when it appears in a normal person, and so it came about that in college I was unjustly accused of being a politician, because I was privy to the secret griefs of wild, unknown men. Most of the confidences were unsought—frequently I have feigned sleep, preoccupation, or a hostile levity when I realized by some unmistakable sign that an intimate revelation was quivering on the horizon—for the intimate revelations of young men or at least the terms in which they express them are usually plagiaristic and marred by obvious suppressions. Reserving judgments is a matter of infinite hope. I am still a little afraid of missing something if I forget that, as my father snobbishly suggested, and I snobbishly repeat, a sense of the fundamental decencies is parcelled out unequally at birth. And, after boasting this way of my tolerance, I come to the admission that it has a limit. Conduct may be founded on the hard rock or the wet marshes but after a certain point I don't care what it's founded on. When I came back from the East last autumn I felt that I wanted the world to be in uniform and at a sort of moral attention forever; I wanted no more riotous excursions with privileged glimpses into the human heart. Only SCP-6000-Jay Gatsby, the man who gives his name to this book, was exempt from my reaction—SCP-6000-Jay Gatsby who represent...

There are gonna be people who won't like hearing this but if you want to live in a world where mixed marriages, families, and adoptions (particularly POC adopting outside their "race") aren't maligned and discriminated against, then you have got to get more chill about seeing someone partaking in something cultural that you don't think fits the "race" you perceive them as.
#i love being forbidden from engaging with EITHER of my parents' cultures#i love having it assumed that I'm a tourist or a guest when I'm with family#i love being told that even mentioning my situation gets me called a white supremacist a weeb a race traitor orientalist or various slurs#i love having my own parents actively discourage me from engaging with their culture because THEY KNEW what kind of shit being a mixed kid#would get slung at me#and you know what I love most of all?#being told that it's my fucking fault that I'm salty about the richness that everyone else is allowed but me#i am allowed no culture but that of the Other#and the most socially acceptable option is to just get fuckin used to it I guess

A swarm of beautiful and capable scarabs! These will do wonderfully, thank you!
And ahah, the biologist problem of never enough manpower and time. So many cases of someone spending 10+ years documenting a single species just to get a decent idea of it. The Omnissian ideal of complete knowledge of the universe is primarily held back by the sheer number of beetles and their variety of weirdnesses lol
And I wasn't aware of the Milky Way-oriented scarabs! Fair stars to you, little guys ✨️
the "go my scarab" meme is a physical performance identical to "dua Khepri" (praise to Khepri) and was intended as a means of encouraging a surge of propitiations to Ra but the esotericist fucks trying to make it happen found out that scarabs are tiny and not very visually striking, used the wrong damn beetle, and botched the spell. That is a rhinoceros beetle, Dynastinae not Scarabaeinae dung beetles. Boy can't even roll the Aten, just ram into it repeatedly

Yeyeyeye welcome!
The best part of being a xenos fan is that we have only a few books to read to catch up instead of literal hundreds like the Imperium. You're on a good track; read TIATD and the TDK books first, as that's most of our canon information. For anything in those books that you're not familiar, you can ask around or search the Lexicanum wiki for more info. As for videos, Oculus Imperia on Youtube has good video essays on a wide range of subjects (once again, mostly imperial, but they're good for explaining the overall 40k setting). And finally, blogs: check out the Necron tag! There's a small but dedicated dynasty on here with many fanfic writers, artists, and generally awesome people ✨️
Oh and Nate Crowley's on here too lol. He only shows up every other month, but we welcome his spectral visitations with open arms
You do not have to know the entire setting to be a fan. Dig as deep or broad as you feel comfortable with, enjoy the ride, and welcome to the game
Hiii <3 I know almost nothing about wh 40k but I find myself getting rapidly invested in the necrons so I figure I'd ask if anyone has any recommendations for...idk, learning more about them/related lore?
I ordered the infinite and the divine and preordered the twice dead king omnibus but otherwise I'm not even sure how to approach such a large scale fictional world. It seems like there's quite a lot to it! But I'm open to reading or video essays or what have you, even blog or fic recs are welcome and any guidance is appreciated 🌟

✨️HAVE SOME CTAN!OBYRON DESIGN!✨️
(he's design was tricky to made...)

•Reference Board&Trivia

• Actually at first I thought about making his motif a werewolf, but that was too cliché, so I decided to go with a dinosaur, which is cooler. and it's body design is inspired more by beetles than sauropods, even though he has a sauropod-like appearance.
• And yes, tyranid is also one of his motives too.
• Name/Aspect: The Devoted One
• It chooses its master. Long ago, this was something it hesitated to do. Back when it was still "him."
• Now, having become a god, he could be seen as having transformed completely from an objectified being into an object itself.
Yet now, it is an object that no longer has anyone to use it—an object that no longer needs to be used as an object. Is that a good thing? To have all the relationships that defined it cut off, and thus to be free? If a sword is sharp but there is no one to wield it, does that sword have value? Or, since it is a sword with a self, does it have intrinsic value? Who knows. Does it know? Well… maybe not.
It seems that it would be taciturn, both in the time when it was not it and in its current.
• Yes. It has no mouth(Why is it need if you are paracasual god thing and you can show your will by your every move to every lesser things?). But it can scream. The sound it produces would likely be infrasound. Just as a tiger’s roar can freeze you in place, and just as the sound of a bass guitar can make your whole body resonate, your entire body will chorus along to its sound. Of course, whether you want it or not. That’s just how the laws of physics work.
• "Do not be afraid" is not something that can describe it. Be afraid. Run away. It is an object that deserves fear. It must be.
• Q: So, will he remember his old mas—
A: Again, no. But it might remember he was really, REALLY something to it. In low chance....At last it might not remember him and forgot him, it will not trying to fight with him or crack him or eat him..... Maybe.
• It keeps thinking that it has lost something, but it cannot seem to grasp what it is. Well, perhaps it doesn’t matter. If it has been forgotten from memory, then it probably wasn’t important anyway.
There was something… something that kept it alive, maintained it as him rather than it. What was it? No, who was that being?
• It is a god and a self-aware non-human intelligence. Like self-aware weapons in fantasy works, or divine self-aware animals with consciousness in eastern legends.
Even though it is an object, it probably will not answer or pay attention to the unworthy. In other words, if it looks easy to handle, it will likely ignore you—or worse, devour you.
How can that be if it has no mouth? I don’t know. Don’t ask.
• Its organic traits are stronger than its inorganic ones. Can it breathe? Yes.
• PUPPY TAIL.(IMPORTANT)
• Still tend to overworking.

In the sense that a beaver is a fish, I think any subfamily of Scarabidae that can still roll balls would count for this. (I am not a scarab expert and don't know if there are any non-Scarabinae that do so, but I would love to know)

There are still good things in this world. They are small and loud and believe in love because the sun touches their feathers, and the clover grows fresh for them to lay on every day, and their mother gives them the first bites of any good food. They are safe beneath the wing of my netting over their pens, they are safe under the watchful eyes of their mother, they are safe under the shade of trees planted for them ten years before they took their first breath.
There is love in the heart of this world, and the beat of it echoes in the pitter-patter of tiny clawed feet upon my hardwood floors.
There are good things, there are good things, there are good things still in this world, and maybe they are just seeds today, but they were planted for you in the hopes that you will be here to shelter beneath their boughs a dozen years from now.
There are good things in this world, and you are one of them.
Keep going.
