Me watching… Seraph of the End
Seraph of the End (on Netflix) is shit. Don’t waste your time. 💩
So clichè that I stopped after like 2 episodes

Me watching… Bubble.
Bubble (バブル) is how a 21-st century anime looks like: gorgeous visuals, vibrant colors, magical atmosphere, mesmerizing action scenes, all with a cute story to narrate.
It has this “Serikanun Graffiti meets Genki Rockets” that makes me love it!

Me watching: Little Witch Academia
Little Witch Academia ( リトルウィッチアカデミア ) was too much childish even for me. Dropped after 3 or 4 episodes.
It’s TRIGGER, so I should not give up, right?
We’ll see if I come back …

Me watching: Mardock Scramble
Mardock Scramble (マルドゥック・スクランブル) ( all of them) is a visual feast!!
Words are very hard to describe it. My memory faded a bit since I watched it, but I remember the feeling of being mesmerized by its daring visuals, dazzling animations and twisted, free from politically correct-ness, unabridged story.
What a gem

Me watching: Darling in the Franxx
Darling in the Franxx (ダーリン・イン・ザ・フランキ ) is something that only those crazy perverts at TRIGGER could come up with.
Darling in the Franxx is sexual and relationship teaching for nerds, masked as a mecha series. And it’s wonderful.
It will give you some good laughs, some facepalms (how pervert are you, TRIGGER guys?!? 😂😂), great fighting scenes, one of the most beautiful characters ever -ZeroTwo-, some real dialogues between characters that actually have a sense (mixed with, of course, some of the classic “unspoken” typical of anime), amazing opening songs, and one of the biggest (though a bit rushed) plot twists ever.
Is it one of the best anime out there? There are definitely other ones to watch first, like Gurren Lagann, but it’s worth it.
Would I watch it again? Probably not to the end, but definitely the first half.
Am I sad that it’s over? Yes.
Do I wish the serie was longer and see more of the future of all characters? Definitely.
Will I miss it? Yes, but it will pass over time.
What’s hard to explain is that, from a purely technical (aseptic/critic/) point of view it’s not a great series, but the heart loves it: how’s that?
Here’s how they did it: Darling in the FRANXX first makes you fall in love with the characters through some “comedy” episodes early in the series, posing key questions (what happened to humanity? Etc.), all of this before let’s say episode 10, and then, once you are completely “on the hook”, it’s free to do what they want with the characters and the plot and you’ll still keep watching.
Don’t regret it though!

Me watching: BNA
BNA (ビー・エヌ・エー) is basically animated using Flash and made with a 2€ budget, but the action scenes are pure TRIGGER, and this is enough. I admit I paused it for a while after the first couple of episodes, but it’s a crescendo and should be watched till the end.
Not TRIGGER’s best anime, but it has a soul and it’s a good watch!

Pacific Rim: The Black has no Japanese dubbing (and it feels like it comes out of Netflix’s “anime factory”) so it’s a bit of an heresy talking about it here but, man, if you’re a fan of the franchise and you love big robots punching big monsters… you can’t get enough of it!
Animations are good (the mecha, characters a bit less), CG is top-notch, love the music and the characters’ voices. Plot is enticing, though Netflix splitting in many seasons doesn’t help. Waiting anxiously for season 2!
Do we really need an anime out of everything? In this case, hell yeah!

Guilty Crown ギルティクラウン has you coming for the boobs and staying for… well, nothing.
The plot is non-existent and dull, animations are so-so, mecha design is crap and the main character is the usual whiny and hesitant teenager who obiouvsly will become a leader and will save the world blah blah… too bad Shou Ouma is not Shinji Ikari and the rest of the anime clearly is not Evangelion, and I don’t have time to waste.
Tried giving it a go more than once but couldn’t get past the 6th episode or so. I’m too old for this stuff and there are better things to watch.

Imaged Netflix

Shingeki No Kyojin (進撃の巨人) season 3 offers the most addicting episodes I have seen in a while!
Man, what a ride!
Season 2 (that I still have to write about) was good, I watched it all at once, but it pales compared to this one.
There are some of the most epic and exciting fighting scenes of any anime ever. And, yes, some of the most heartbreaking, too!
It feels many open threads are coming to a close, and it opens for even more madness to come!

Anime characters are human beings.
Western cartoons are animals.
Think about it.

You Lie in April (四月は君の嘘) will grab your heart from the first episode with “Pazu’s Fanfare” from the Master Hisaishi, then will take your hand and lead you through a journey of music, friendship, love, growth, and of course some anime “unsaid” and awkwardness.
And then at the end it will take your heart and smash it, everything will come together, and you’ll understand why Kao was crying in the first episode, and what’s the meaning of the title, and you will cry.
You should be watching it. Now.

Me watching: Log Horizong
(Old post from 2016-ish)
Log Horizon - An anime about a group of MMORPG players that get captured in the game’s world? About time someone made it!
Stereotyped characters, booby girls, kawaii co-protagonist, but it’s not bad: everything is as it should be, and that’s ok.
However, I am not in the mood of MMORPG after I quit World of Warcraft.
I quit at first episode.
