Annie is a force of nature when she challenges Cornbread. She is the gravitational point for all the other characters. Cornbread tries to move around her, to address Smoke, because it's Elijah who is considered the weaker link, not she. Yet he does not succeed because Annie's concerns are not dismissed. She is the carrier of knowledge, of tradition. All the characters in that room have her in high regard. She is LISTENED to and she is never treated as some paranoid, hysterical woman. I found it refreshing.

Rhys speaking about Azriel:
"If I had not met a shadowsinger, I would not have known that it is the family you make, not the one you are born into, that matters. I would not have known what it is to truly hope, even when the world tells you to despair."
Feyre speaking about Elain:
“I gazed again at that sad, dark house—the place that had been a prison. Elain had said she missed it…She had looked at that cottage with hope; I had looked at it with nothing but hatred. And I knew which one of us had been stronger.”
It’s an interesting thing to see Azriel be portrayed as hopeful, I guess we learned to believe he is what he shows the world—the brutal, terrifying spy and torturer. But his brother, who truly knows him, finds this trait of his so prominent that he decides to mention it during such an important moment. It makes sense that he would love being near Elain, she too knows what it is to hope even in the darkness. It’s one of the many lovely symmetries of Elriel, very beautiful.

Just saw someone on twitter saying that Annie's actress, Wunmi Mosaku, would have been matched better with someone like Denzel Washington than with Michael B. Jordan. I don't know if this is just sexism and ageism, if it's bodyshaming or all three. But it's telling that people discuss whether a 38-year-old woman should be paired with a (very good actor) who's 70, instead of a 38-year-old man. Apparently if women are not 10 years younger than the male lead and don't have a specific hollywood-approved body type, they are too 'old'.

I kind of loved the way Smoke and Stack were portrayed. The combination of good writing, direction and acting created something beautiful. The moment they were introduced, I subtly pointed at them respectively and whispered to my friend "big brother-younger brother". It was just so obvious which was which. From their behaviour, their movements and attitudes. All parties involved did such an excellent job at building these characters and their personalities and Michael B. Jordan never had to overact in some forceful attempt for differentiation between the two.
