Man I Feel Divorced

Inside my mind is a committee of 6 selves

20, 30, 40, 50, 60, and 70 year old me. Each as a delegate of my five decades of agency.

Before 20 and after 70, we are all some form of increased dependence. But in between that time my choices are my own.

If I ask those 6 selves, one of whom is me, what they'd do if they were me, what would they say?

I keep imagining myself at 70, holding my hand, telling me every person they wish they could spend a day with again. To enjoy my body and my agency and to share the earth and space with everyone I love who isn't dead yet.

I imagine me at 60 and 50 telling me to screw my head on straight when i pick my peers. And me at 40 rushing me to finish my divorce.

But I know me at 70 would thank me for taking the time to look at my loved ones instead of avert my gaze. And to go outside while I'm still free and unobstructed.

Every day I'm not in a cage , mental or physical, is worth noticing and appreciating
