Reasons why a character might be unable to say "Thank you."

Insecurity

They don't know how to voice it.

At all or in the appropriate amount/way, whithout it coming off as either too desperate or too careless.

They don't know for what/where to start.

They know the other isn't used to being thanked and would probably be just as awkward about it.

They wouldn't know how to keep their conversation/relationship up afterwards.

Fear

They'd have to think too much about all they way they've (intentionally or not) hurt others in order to be helped.

If they acknowledge the help, the other might hold it against them.

Aka. They pronounce them to the world as "weak" and "incapable"

Aka. The other might see it as a give and take, meaning they'd be officially indebted to them until they helped the other in an equally huge way.

They would have to accept all the things they cannot do (alone or even at all) aka they're not the perfect being others pressured them to be.

The "thank you" could be 'rejected' or dismissed. What do you do then? Suffer in silence but have the other know about it ? No, thank you.

"It was just a job to the other anyway. They would've done it for anyone. This wasn't anything special to them cause it was ME .. why would they care if I did thank them? No, that would be far too exposing of my vulnerability"

Shame

They are ashamed to have needed help in the first place.

Especially if it's "again" or "for the first time" or after bragging about "never needing it"

They're ashamed about the reason.

They're ashamed about they way/the kind of help they needed.

I assume you’re asking for fic recs? (I’m actually in the middle of writing a fic right now, actually, a les mis au, but I’ll take a break and write this post)

I recommend you look through AO3, where you’ll find basically every English fic ever written (mixed in with a lot of Chinese ones, and some Russian). There are few enough English fics that it won’t take too long to look through all of them for something you like. I’m also going to assume you don’t mind spoilers, since you’re looking for fics.

As for specific fics! This is just a very small handful of ones that I’ve particularly enjoyed, most of them shorter/completed (because I prefer complete fics). Most of these authors have written several others, so I’d recommend you check out those works as well.

What if, instead of being forced to retire, Ye Xiu is able to pay his way out of his contract thanks to the help of Han Wenqing? the “flagship fic” of the English fandom, slowburn hanye, featuring fluff and humor (proplayer shenanigans) and expanded canon and fleshed out characterizations. 37/10 would recommend to anyone. still in progress, it’s a long one.

northwest, the autumn by halcyonine - Level 100, remembrance, and the importance of sunscreen

Years after the end of the novel, Glory plans its biggest update yet, and the retired Ye Xiu receives a call from the creators. Quiet, somber, it’ll make you feel. (I cried reading this :’) )

the kind of girl you could write novels about by Tatsumaki_sama - Ye Xiu had said it as a joke, that if anyone could beat her in a match, she would go on a date with them. She did not realize that many players would actually take her word for it. Always-a-girl!Ye Xiu

it’s all hallows eve, where monsters play and logic sleeps by ThePlayfulNobody - It’s Halloween in Glory! All the Glory characters are Halloween versions of themselves! Some, like Yu Wenzhou the angel, are pretty suitable. Others, like Wei Chen the magical girl…not so much. The pro players decide to roll with it.And Ye Xiu? Suffering makes Ye Xiu stronger. Seriously, it’s one of his skills.

this author has a lot of really great crack+feels, i particularly enjoyed this one!

a fic translated from chinese. future fic, featuring lu hanwen growing up in blue rain. this one also made me cry, in a good sweet feels-y way

More than Meets the Eye by Autumn_Rain - The World of Glory never knew how much potential they lost with Su Muqiu’s death. What innovation would he have brought? How far would the Alliance have advanced? Who would he have inspired? What legacy would he have left, if Ye Xiu wasn’t the sole carrier of their private dream, left with only remnants of his existence? From the very beginning, Su Muqiu had been a force of nature, and in this world, Su Muqiu lives on to shake the very foundations of Glory with Ye Xiu by his side, as it should have been.

still in progress, but the first chapter is very long and works standing alone. the fleshed out depiction of yx/smc/smq’s backstory was what drew me in

dreams by Skylark - thunder only happens when it’s raining (players only love you when they’re playing)

short, but a good introspective look at sun xiang’s character, and his complicated relationship with ye xiu

short, crack, and utterly hilarious; the best kind of (not-actually-romantic) sanxiu

Dramaland Forecast: December 2017

Previously: 2016 - Jan - Feb - Mar - Apr - May - June - July - Aug - Sept - Oct - Nov

Completed:

The Package – this is, hands down, my favorite drama of the year. I had hoped it would be enjoyable, a fun romp with pretty scenery – but I didn’t expect for me to fall in love with all the characters and care so much about their stories. It’s rare that I finish a drama and then immediately want to rewatch it, but I wish I could spend more time with this misfit tour group and become a part of their defacto family.

Currently watching:

Black – I’ve heard rumors that this should be coming to US Netflix in the next month or so. If so, I’m jealous of anyone who gets to binge and not agonize with me each week, trying to figure out what’s going on and guess what will happen next.

Two Cops – the premiere was okay, although I wasn’t immediately drawn in (although Hobaby’s love for his sunbae Jo Jung-suk is my new favorite thing). There’s a strong chance this will end up on the dropped list unless things pick up a little more, but for now, I’m willing to give it a chance.

Dropping/skipping:

Untouchable – I thought about checking this one out because it seemed like it could have potential, until I remembered how bitter I am about the mess that was Masked Prosecutor, so this writer is still banned and I refuse to watch his stuff.

Doubtful Victory – technically I haven’t dropped it, nor am I exactly skipping it. I just haven’t had a chance to watch the premiere yet, although knowing I can only watch a handful of live-airing shows at a time, there’s a strong chance this won’t make it to the “currently watching” list unless it’s binge-worthy (or I decide to drop Two Cops and the few December shows that interest me, making room in my viewing schedule).

Judge vs Judge – as legal dramas go, this sounds like it could be a relatively fresh take, since most legal dramas focus on the prosecutors and lawyers. Buuuuut it’s still a legal drama and I’m not particularly motivated to check it out.

Wise Prison Life – I really, really, really want to watch this drama. I also have discovered that the episodes are an hour-and-a-half long. Dammit, Shin PD, why are you making my life so difficult? If you want me to watch your shows, make them shorter! A girl only has so many hours in the day to watch dramas! I’m telling myself that I’ll binge it later, but then I’ve been saying that about Reply 1988 for almost two years, and I’m still balking at those episode lengths.

Upcoming dramas of interest:

Jugglers – Daniel Choi in a workplace drama, surrounded by a mess of awesome women. I AM ALL IN!

I’m Not a Robot – I love the cast, but I’m still iffy on the concept, and the teasers haven’t exactly won me over, either, so this will probably be a pass.

Bad Guys: City of Evil – the teasers got me all hyped up! I don’t know if I’ll watch it while airing or wait to binge, but it’s definitely on the “watch” list.

Hwayugi – the Hong sisters lost my trust years ago, but this looks pretty awesome, not the least because the cast is a collection of all their favorites from previous dramas. I hope they can deliver on this and remind me why I used to like their dramas in the first place.

Just Between Lovers – this could be a little more melodramatic than is my taste, but it also seems like it will be one of those “slice-of-life” dramas that JTBC does so well, so it’s definitely got my attention. I don’t know if I’ll make time for it while it’s airing, though.

Return – it’s a lawyer and detective show, which makes me go “ugh, not another one.” Buuuuuuut it stars queen Go Hyun Jung, along wth Lee Jin Wook, Shin Sung Rok, and my beloved Park Ki-woong, who I’ve been temporarily freezing out since I’ve been so disappointed with his post-army acting choices. But this will make up for it, right? At least I can hope!

Radio Romance – Doojoon as a top star who can’t speak unless it’s scripted who then has to suddenly become a DJ? Yes, please! A love interest potentially with an actress who is still in her teens? Hell, no! Sigh, dramaland, why do you have to be this way? There are plenty of twenty-something (and thirty-something!) actresses who would make a good pairing with Doojoon (don’t make me remind you of my love for Soo Kyung noona!). Whhyyyyyyyyyyyyy are you making a teenager pretend to be older? Ugh, ugh, ugh.

As always, any drama not listed means I have nothing new to add since the last mention and/or it’s not something I care about enough to add to the list.

HELLO, I AM SORRY, DON’T KILL ME, I’M BACK 

Welcome back to your weekly Marvey-Fanfiction-Recommendations. As always, be kind to the authors, leave kudos and comments and make them feel special. 

1.  Here at the end of all things: this is a dystopian AU filled with angst and Hurt/Comfort.  I feel like the plot literally is something like  “there’s no one left in the world so let’s get together and kiss” kind of thing but it’s nice and well written.  (10,000 words One Shot) 

2.  Appetite:  WEREWOLVES! That’s it. That’s all you need to know. (actually, the plot is not thaaat good, at least for me, but the world the author created is amazing. The way packs, bonds, and werewolf “politics” work is incredible so I think it’s worth it) 

3.  7776000 &  1+1= (sequel):  both are well written and have an interesting approach to the events that followed S1E16. It’s almost an AU, I mean, Mike works at a bookstore and Harvey is a lawyer. It’s a nice and short fix-it. 

4. NOW LISTEN, I LOVE THIS FIC BUT IT IS INCOMPLETE. SO GO, READ IT, LEAVE COMMENTS AND KUDOS. Let’s give the author some motivation. 

Face Down: domestic violence AU in which Harvey is a knight in white armor and Mike bakes cookies and it’s a genius baby cinnamon roll full of life and bruises :(  The characters are perfectly good written (especially Harvey) 

RECOMMENDATION OF THE F*** MONTH: 

Unspoken: Mike is a deaf photographer that lives with Rachel, his best/lifelong friend. Rachel meets Donna on a dating website so Mike goes with her to Donna’s birthday party.  There, they meet Harvey and shit hits the fan. 

Harvey is an ass sometimes, Mike makes loud noises during sex ‘cause he can’t hear himself, is a slow-burn (painfully slow, I’m warning you) and I love it.

Does he not look like your best friend's rich, divorced dad?

You go over to your best friend's dad's big house to swim in the giant swimming pool bc it's too hot to do anything else. This is the first time meeting their dad and you are shocked at how gorgeous he is. He's so polite and such a gentleman too. You don't quite see him look you up and down when you come inside to get more to drink, but as you visit more often, you become more friendly with each other and you feel your polite talks turning into flirting from both sides. He tells you you can come over anytime to use the pool, even when your friend isn't there. You politely thank him and make a mental note to buy a new, slightly smaller swimsuit.

Or you meet each other again at the block party/BBQ later that summer what your friend invited you to bc there's not really anyone else their age to talk to. You wear something light and summer that just so happens to be two pieces with a top that shows a decent amount of skin and a skirt shorter than what you usually wear. Henry eventually breaks away from talking to the over fathers and goes over and compliments you on your outfit. You say he looks nice and summery too in lavender (especially since you can see the tops of his pecs so easily with some buttons undone). He asks about how college is going and is just overall sweet and pleasant, but you can feel him undressing you with his eyes and he keeps stealing glances at your cleavage and waist and legs. You decide you'll need to take him up on that pool offer sooner than later.
