Still looking for a dress. Why did I just get advertised a BACKLESS dress...

So my brother in law is getting married in May and I’ve been trying to find a dress for LO. Can anyone explain to me why in the chicken fried fuck do dresses for a 6 month old have a bodice???? And spaghetti straps???? And short skirts???? Maybe I don’t want my baby’s thighs hanging out at a party where I don’t know half the people? Like forgive me if that seems too much but I am so not okay with non-family seeing her without appropriate bottoms on. I don’t even let FIL see her without bottoms on because he has issues with boundaries and takes photos of her without asking and is know for sending pictures of ALL of us to random strangers on the internet without consent.

Ya girl is exhausted….

Our baby is 4.5 months old which means that she finally worked her way through the very dreaded not fun sleep regression. Did I mention how it was not fun?

I just recovered from mastitis which had me feeling miserable. I’m talking 103F fever and all. I also got a very painful and large fever blister from it.

I’m also over the top tired, like napping 3 times a day and then sleeping at night and still feeling exhausted which is making me fear that the mastitis caused my Epstein Barr to reactivate. And yeah I had my EB reactivate about two ish years ago and I had to be on antibiotics for 3 months to get it to go back into remission.

I’m experiencing the very fun postpartum sweats. I’m taking my hair is damp with sweat kind of sweating. It’s also kind of skewing my thyroid a bit. Did you know breastfeeding throws you into a pseudo menopause? No? Well it does!

My ancestors would have wanted pasteurization, vaccines, antibiotics, disinfectants, birth control, psychiatric medications, pain management, anesthesia. My ancestors would have wanted to be able to keep their loved ones around longer, and not lose them too early/too soon to childbirths, injuries, bacterial infections, mental illnesses, and diseases that are curable and/or preventable in our modern day life.

The way that we learn about Helen Keller in school is an absolute outrage. We read “The Miracle Worker”- the miracle worker referring to her teacher; she’s not even the title character in her own story. The narrative about disabled people that we are comfortable with follows this format- “overcoming” disability. Disabled people as children. Helen Keller as an adult, though? She was a radical socialist, a fierce disability advocate, and a suffragette. There’s no reason she should not be considered a feminist icon, btw, and the fact that she isn’t is pure ableism- while other white feminists of that time were blatent racists, she was speaking out against Woodrew Wilson because of his vehement racism. She supported woman’s suffrage and birth control. She was an anti-war speaker. She was an initial donor to the NAACP. She spoke out about the causes of blindness- often disease caused by poverty and poor working conditions. She was so brave and outspoken that the FBI had a file on her because of all the trouble she caused.

Yet when we talk about her, it’s either the boring, inspiration porn story of her as a child and her heroic teacher, or as the punchline of ableist, misogynistic jokes. It’s not just offensive, it’s downright disgusting.
