A/N: scowen has me by the throat, the new empires ep and the new taylor swift album did not help. so take this, owen doesn’t actually end up getting turned back into a llama and he and scott kiss, peace and love

Summary: Scott realizes he only has one bed. And he could make another… but Owen seems rather eager to share. Owen also seems rather eager to do something… else.

It was late, and Scott just wanted to go to bed. It had been a long day of showing Owen around, then trying (and failing) to turn him back. Now Scott was facing a different problem: Owen seemed perplexed at the idea of needing his own bed. And at this rate, Scott was too tired to argue with him. But then another situation came up the moment they went into Scott’s loft.

“Did you kiss me?” Owen asked. Scott felt a sudden rush of heat to his cheeks, heart pounding.

“I- uh, goodnight!” he blurted out, scrambling backwards into bed. But Owen only followed him- there was only one bed after all- and before Scott knew it Owen crawled on top of him, expression thoughtful as he situated himself in Scott’s lap.

an alternative response

The beat of silence after Scott decides a poppy would suit Jimmy feels unnerving, so Scott decides to ask, “What flower do you want?” as he pads after Owen.

“No, I don’t really have flowers,” Owen replies, hiding behind a bench. As Scott hides behind Owen, he frowns.

“Oh. Why?”

“Ugh, they’re too– They die quickly. Machines don’t die.” The pair crawl slowly, instinctively jumping when they see one of the people.

“I don’t know much about machines…” Scott mutters, more to himself as Owen twitches in annoyance at the human presence.

“Oh, my gears are going crazy.”

“You have gears?!”

“Yeah, in my head.”

“Are you a machine?”

“No. Not yet,” Owen whispers as they sneak past. The thought of Owen one day being a machine makes something twist in Scott’s stomach.

“How about– How about I keep your flower alive for you until you get better at taking care of it?” Scott asks. Owen turns around, clearly confused.

“Why?”

“So you can learn. I mean– I don’t know much, like I said, but… Machine’s need maintenance, or something, or they break, right? It’s just like that. I’ll teach you.”

Owen seems suspicious of the idea but nods anyway, turning back to lead them both to the bathroom with access to the attic, and Scott feels a little bit more relieved.

‘You’ll learn how to take care of yourself, too, I hope.’
