My first character is known to most associates as “Edison Wake”, an Anglicized moniker he adopted after breaking out of New Newgate all those years ago. The surname is a nod to his old captain when he sailed the Cumean Canal, George Wake, a hearty chap who used to be a White spy and is now a Drownie. Edison informs his closest contacts, including his husband, that his birth name is Eirik Vindgren, but this is also not his given name. Nobody knows that, not even him - irrigo is handy that way. Anyway, he’s tall and tow-headed, religiously and obsessively nosy, replaced honey with the Game, red-aligned but highly Magnanimous and strangely sentimental with it. He recently fell in love with the Duchess and is having a terrible time, which he deserves <3

Mary Aldridge (she/her) was named that by her gin-addled mother in a shack in Liverpool. A strange dirty child even by urchin standards, always operating by her own code. She fell in with criminals naturally and was recommended to Edison by his husband for a job that went wrong. When she broke out of jail, he took her under his wing, though she hardly needed him. This has not necessarily been a good thing. Forthright to a fault, squat and broad, brilliantly violent, a true hunter and a woman of deeds. Now a skilled poisoner, less fiery than before and much more disturbing. Interested originally in glory, then extermination, an impulse she has begun to turn inward - destruction and transformation. There is an appetite. A reckoning will not be postponed indefinitely.

to be clear i am having a blast with this. as an endgame midnighter it’s easy to end up with a character who’s too good. watching edison fail to control anything and even to act like an incompetent emotional loser is great fun
