Look, I know Star Trek: Picard is about, well, Picard, but it really would have made more sense for the Borg Queen to have a hate boner for Janeway, not JL. I mean, yeah, Picard stopped her from assimilating Earth a couple times, but Janeway really fucked up her shit by stealing Seven, stealing a transwarp coil, restealing Seven (which the queen took personally), facilitating the Unimatrix Zero resistance, and then (alongside Janeway's future self) blowing up the Borg Transwarp Network Hub and spreading the virus that decimated the collective and left the Queen in the dilapidated state we see in PIC S3. So, no shade on JL and his influence, but it would have made more sense for the hate from the Queen's PIC 3x10 dramatic speech to be directed at Janeway, not him.

She never seen what we have and also, I feel like part of her dislike of JC comes from the fact that because of the way she gets asked questions about JC by fans, she thinks the focus here is on smut and she gets annoyed and sees that relationship as a threat to Janeway's legacy - again first female captain, that joke about new meaning of red alert etc.
She doesn't see what we see.
She doesn't see that in 2025, there is no threat to Janeway's legacy. In fact, Janeway relationship with Chakotay would enrich Janeway's legacy because it would show that smart women in high leadership positions can have a successful romantic relationship with men who don't perceive their leadership as threat to their masculinity but fully supports her in her role.
But we never gonna get that because KM thinks all we want is for Janeway and Chakotay to bang. 😭

KM is extremely articulate... When she knows what she's talking about. Lol in this case she doesn't.
This is just my opinion and everyone is free to disagree but I honestly think KM simply has no clue how JC came across on the screen because she simply never watched the show. What she remembers as her intentions when acting is not the same as what we see on the screen.
Whenever KM gets questions about JC she usually either dodges them, changes the subject or recycles the same answer that she was the first female captain it would simply not do yada yada yada etc. (Which, I think, it was a good decision at the time but we're here 30 years later, this answer became redundant at least decade ago) or, when pushed, really and truly she BS her way through the question with her usual elegance and panache in a way that you have no idea what she just answered.
But again, I think she simply never watched Voy and doesn't understand why fans are so insistent about it. I also don't think she cares much for JC, she cares about Janeway, Star Trek and it's wider message but JC she simply does not care. She cares about her fans, bless her, and she's always so lovely which is why when asked about JC she will never say: frankly, my dear... Idgaf
I'm not saying she *has* to watch Voy but it would help her see the fans' perspective, that no we did not make shit up, YOU put it out there.

Another Voyager Headcanon:
As we know, Janeway ended up being involved in the Federation-Cardassian war, and from beta canon we know she was actually captured by the Cardassians at one point, as was Owen Paris. As a result she was more sympathetic to the Maquis' cause than most other officers, though she would never have joined them under any circumstance.
We also know that Chakotay was a well respected officer prior to leaving Starfleet and later joining the Maquis.
I reckon that good, well-regarded Starfleet idealists leaving to join the Maquis would have caused a lot of anger from types like Sisko who instantly regarded them as traitors, but also more nuanced reactions from those in Starfleet who felt very conflicted over the situation.
Sisko and those like him would gladly toss all the Maquis in the brig, but others didn't want that for them - they wanted these officers, and their civilian allies home safe, even if that meant them sitting in a cell and thinking over their actions. They also probably wanted their insights about how to solve things in the DMZ.
And I honestly think that's why Owen Paris decided to give Voyager - a science vessel - an unusual first mission of capturing Chakotay's cell. Owen didn't want a hothead who would end up destroying the Val Jean in a firefight if things got out of hand - Owen wanted a Captain who would treat the Maquis fairly, and actually listen to Chakotay while they were en-route back to Federation space.
So, in short, Owen Paris arranged for Janeway to be the one to capture Chakotay, to make things easier on Chakotay.
Unluckily for Owen, he didn't count on Janeway getting his son out of jail and stranded in the Delta Quadrant in the process.
But, luckily for Owen, the fact that Janeway sympathised with the Maquis, and that Chakotay was always Starfleet at heart, is what made it possible for Voyager to get home.
Without Janeway and Chakotay understanding one another from the ship's earliest days, they'd never have made it back.
Janeway's sympathy for the Maquis only truly comes to light when she's grilled about her attitudes to the Maquis during her homecoming debriefings.

saw an elderly woman walking around with a tote bag whose design were the four AO3 fic category squares and she very excitedly asked if i was a reader or a writer bcs nobody else at the con had recognized it, and after telling her that i've been writing fic since fanfic.net, she solemnly nodded and explained that she'd been reading fic since "the days of personal websites" but that she only started writing fanfic when she was 47 and oh my god when i tell you that i genuinely teared up on the spot!!!!! like!!! HELL YEAH???? LITERALLY NEVER TOO OLD TO START WRITING. NEVER TOO OLD TO WRITE AND SHARE YOUR FIC.
her enthusiastic "i'm a very nice and bubbly person, i swear! but i love writing angst and major character death :)" nearly took me the fuck out.
icon. legend. diva. i wish her nothing but a kajillion million comments and kudos. i hope her fic updates crash AO3. i hope she knows i'm promoting her to my personal patron saint of AO3.

Every once in a while I enjoy rereading one of my old fics and get inspired to illustrate a scene or two! Here's one from The Boomerang Effect - in which Janeway helps an injured Chakotay with his sling 🥰
But whether you've read or wish to read the story or not, I hope this piece captures your imagination! 🥰🖖
