“So the whole gang is banded back together again.” How lucky for them to all remain friends even after all the missed connections the years brought. Kisumi had been a little envious that he couldn’t see his friends on both side of the spectrum as much with also attending a different school himself.
”Ah I’m still playing basketball. Training for the upcoming regional tournaments. Hopefully my team will pull through and win the championship.” That’d be the dream, after all this would be his last chance to play with his teammates like this again. Kisumi would have to think seriously about his future and decide if basketball is what he wants to do.
Shaking his head as if it would help to keep those bugging thoughts at bay, he pocketed his hands before speaking up. “I”m gonna have to visit everyone soon. I want to see you and Sousuke and action again. Don’t tell Sousuke but I’ll cheer for you this time.”
░ 泳ぐ ░
The "gang" really was. All this time, Haru thought she had been fine with just being with Makoto, and doing whatever she could to swim, be it ocean or . . . fish tank on the side. But when Nagisa came along and they made the club, and then Rei joined and Haru found herself swimming alongside Rin again . . . the world she hadn't known was off-center to begin with suddenly balanced. This was what she wanted. To swim, with her team. And it was all she could ever want. Right?
The future seemed so clear for others, but for Haru, it wasn't as simple. Free. That was her only goal, but as the end of the year was quickly approaching, that idea was pulling further and further out of reach. Listening to Kisumi go on about his basketball tournaments made her wonder if he knew what he wanted to do with his life, or if he was like the rest of them, and just --- drifting along with the present.
Sousuke. The mention of the swimmer brought up . . . unpleasant memories of the last time they had talked, and everything he had said about Rin. But Haru pushed it behind her, giving a sigh as she turned to the side. "Ah. We'll go see you, too." Basketball wasn't all that interesting to Haru, but it had been a while since she had seen Kisumi play, and she could already guess that Makoto would want to go, anyway.

⊰桃⊱ He stutters and stammers, cheeks aflame with his embarrassment. Why does that line never work? Clearing his throat with a cough, Momotarou collects himself as he wracks his mind for a rebuttal.
◤ 'Well, supposedly Lucifer was beautiful before he fell from heaven and became Satan. So if the shoe fits--'◢
Perhaps that wasn’t the best way to put it.
░ 泳ぐ ░
Haru continued to stare at the boy, face completely impassive in response to his attempt at a cover-up. She wasn't going to even bother addressing it, and in most instances Haru probably would've just walked away by now--but there was one thing nagging in the back of her mind. She had gone to her brother's practices and competitions before, and there was something very familiar about this idiot.
"You're Mikoshiba's little brother, right."

「 ★☆!」 No offense to anyone suffering from yet to be spoken of, and hopefully nonexistent disease, but Makoto must be suffering from such a case where his brain made him hear crazy, impossible things after meeting pretty girls poking their heads out of the water, claiming to be mermaids because, well ——————
this girl just declared she was a mermaid.
His outstretched arm remained aloft, but Makoto’s jaw fell low, and he was certain the sound he’d just heard was his jaw and sanity detaching themselves from his body. Makoto had never been, despite what his large build and serene face might make others unfairly presume, a slow person, but at this particular moment his brain decided to try something new for once and run at only two percent its normal speed.
Although words failed him, Makoto could still properly scream half a second after seeing a tail lifted from the waters, and he definitely needed to reevaluate his priorities at some point because that was not okay. Unsurprisingly, Makoto instinctively moved away from the girl —mermaid— and less surprisingly tripped, wobbling, clumsy feet sliding from under him. He landed with an 'oof' on the wet sand, the slight discomfort offering a fleeting distraction from the current cause of the heart attack he could feel incoming, but the moment lasted too short.
A second later he locked eyes with the girl — mermaid, his mind, traitorously slow as it was when dealing with his own well being, screamed at him to remember — again, and another shriek slid its way to his throat, pounding at his chords to release it, but Makoto managed to keep it held back, barely, determined to salvage whatever scraps of dignity he could.
Whether he did a good job was debatable.
"You’re — you’re a ——"
Again, this was not the appropriate (if there was one) response to the current situation, but after a quick look downward at the squirming mackerel in the mermaid’s — got it! — hands, he said, waving at it, and her,
"— you can keep the fish, it’s yours."
░ 泳ぐ ░
For a second, Haru wondered if he didn't believe her - - - but her decision to show her tail immediately cured any doubt.
This one screamed a lot more than the other humans Haru had seen. Although to be fair, she had never revealed herself to them. But, still, there was something a lot more . . . gentle and easily shakeable about this boy than the rough, salty fishermen Haru was used to.
Those ones usually told jokes with each other that she didn't really understand beyond the gist and cursed the ocean and Poseidon when nothing bit on their lines. She guessed they would have had a different reaction other than letting out a shriek that dolphins across the continent could probably hear, with a jaw threatening to drop all the way to the sand.
She watched silently as he retreated from her, only for his human feet to fail him and clumps of wet sand to kick up, a fleck speckling her blank face. Hm. Were feet that hard to use? She couldn't imagine how well toes would work with swimming, with their lack of webbing in between.
But her thoughts about feet in the water vanished when suddenly, the boy told her she could have the mackerel, and, oddly enough, right at that moment, humans didn't seem so useless after all.
Gratitude wasn't a new experience for Haru, but it never showed on her face more than just the tiniest, only just noticeable arc at the corners of her mouth.
But she only had one thing to say to him.
"Do you swim?"

「 ♒ 」; ; — he didn’t wait for her to get there.
already haruka was trailing her — both palms flat against the poolside as he hauled himself out of the water. his skin tingled now; as though the innocent drops of water cascading down his body were lighting him ablaze at the very same time. it was…odd.
he didn’t bother responding to her even as he took his place at the starting block. instead, he opted to inhale — and then exhale rather deeply. his eyes remained locked on the shimmering surface of the water, and had anyone else been there to witness it they might have thought the boy to be exchanging some sort of unspoken vow with the pool itself.
with nay a word haruka readied himself. the slightest flex of his arms, the subtle tightening of his calves and the ever present tingle of his skin set his mind to flat line on one thought: race. 100mm. freestyle.
"un."
it seemed the world had dismissed itself then. now, the only things that seemed to exist were the starting blocks. the clock. his opponent. and —
the water.
░ 泳ぐ ░
Just giving him a once-over cursory glance was enough to tell Haru that this boy with a name so close to her own was a swimmer. But what muscles he had didn't matter. She didn't even need to really look. Because all the answers she wanted would soon be given by the water itself, as they always were. It was her mentor, her listener, her healer, her self. This was between Haru and the pool, nothing else.
And then the clocked ticked at twelve and they were off, their bodies seemingly suspended in air for a moment before hitting the cool water, soon nothing filling the open air but the sounds of limbs striking fluid and gasps for breath. But for Haru, she would never describe it as some kind of battle against the water, hands thrashing and tearing through. That would suggest animosity between her and pool, and that was something that had never existed for Haru.
No, it was something more like music as she pulled herself through the liquid cavity her hands towed open, both she and the water working hard together to hit the right note, to find that tune of superlative harmony. Haru felt her pulse ignite as feet touched the other side of the wall to make the turn, body undulating, propelling as they reached the final stretch. It was neck and neck between the two of them, just as it had been before with Rin and yet--this Haruka Nanase was different, because like her, she could see he didn't care about form. He was just going along with the water, like she had always done, had always known how to do.
The end of the race was drawing near and Haru could see the wall pulling closer as she dashed towards it, bones aching to reach it. But in the end, she was still shorter, and though to the untrained eye it would've looked like a tie--Haru was behind him by roughly a second, hand slamming the wall just after. Words failed her as she surfaced, pulling off the cap and shaking out her wet bangs again, panting.
He was good, even better than she had anticipated.
#[ same seriously it's so fun alsdkfj ]#[ let me know if the outcome of the race is okay by you btw love~! ]#freestxle#[ v: 泳ぐ ]

' if you don't come a little closer, i don’t be able to show you. ’ rin was obviously going to try something —— ranging from silly to ridiculous to stupid that may even cross the border of annoying. but nonetheless, it was something rin-esque, and he only gestured the girl closer.
░ 泳ぐ ░
you could almost hear the gears clicking in Haru's mind as she accessed whether or not to trust the maroon buffoon. But with all the swimming practice lately, she didn't often have time to spend with the Samezuka captain, so Haru decided to give him the benefit of the doubt this time, stepping forward with a sigh.

「 ★☆!」 Only to Makoto was Haruki’s desire to laugh obvious, the faint pink on her cheeks practically glaring red to him, and he sighed, silently and truly grateful she accepted his plead to hold back her laughter.
There were few better examples of true friendship than this.
"Right, right…"
Makoto mumbled, picking himself up from the floor until he sat normally, legs bent and an arm draped over one knee, the other coyly scratching at his nape.
"I almost forgot about that," he chuckled, then coughed at remembering why,
"aha.. erhm, do you want to go right now, or do something for a bit?”
░ 泳ぐ ░ ; ;
Finally, the itch to laugh finally died down into nothingness, and both Makoto and Haru were safe. Really, it was difficult to say which one was more wary of her laughter. Haru liked remaining in control of her emotions , , , which was probably why her friends had to resort to force to even hear her laugh at all.
After Makoto took a seat, calming down from his dancing spell, Haru knelt on the floor too, a sigh from simple emotional exhaustion escaping.
"I don't know if Rei's home yet," she replied in return, not directly answering Makoto, but - - - Haru seldom ever had to.

’ oi, haru. ‘
there was a little grin apparent on his features,
with the slightest hint of amusement. it wasn’t everyday rin was in a good mood, let alone one that could be made even better with a little bit of humour on his part - & needless to say, he was willing to indulge himself in cracking a joke here and there —- especially in his friend’s presence.
’ —- come here for a sec. ‘
░ 泳ぐ ░
It was always something with this one, wasn't it. Haruki could hear the smirk lilting in his voice before she even turned and saw that familiar crafty look already on his face, the sign that something stupid was coming, no doubt. And yet, underneath the layers of dread and annoyance, there was a part of Haru that would never grow tired of this.
"What is it?"

「 ★☆!」 All Makoto wanted to do today was relax with
a bit of sun here, a bit of fishing there, and all around have a stress free day off from work.
Everything went well so far ; he’d made little progress on the fishing first because really, a beach shore wasn’t the best place to fish, but the waves were soothing against his bare feat, the soft breeze cooling his warmed skin, and —— oh ! A tugging on his line!
Laughter spilled from his lips, pleasantly shocked at finally catching something. Immediately Makoto started drawing in his line, frowning when met with resistance, but continued to reel in determination to catch his prize, putting some arm muscle into the action. The weight never lessened, and depressingly Makoto though t his bait had latched onto a rock when — god bless — a shiny blue mackerel popped out of the water, pale hands attached to its tail.

… Wait. Wait. W a i t.
Disbelieving his eyes, Makoto squinted, peering closer at the light something holding onto the mackerel.
A girl’s head rose from the water, and instantly he jumped back, yelping, heart skipping a beat. Stunned in place, only when he felt a movement at the end of his line did Makoto at least react ——
though to the arguably wrong thing.
"H—Hey, that’s my——!”
Only as he was about to say fish did Makoto’s priorities settle into place.
Sputtering, he dropped the rod and moved forward a few steps, arm extended as if offering the girl assistance to exit the water.
"You’re— uhm, are you okay?" he called out, breathless, "What are you doing in the water like that?"
░ 泳ぐ ░
Haruki shook her head after emerging, tossing her damp bangs to brush away from her face. So this was a human. Two legs, feet . . . toes. It looked strange.
Much less equipped for swimming. She couldn't imagine what it was like to live on land, clunking about with all that heaviness as the air clung to your dry skin. Just thinking about it made her a shiver ghost up her spine. Living like that, it wasn't natural. She needed the water. Without it, Haru didn't know who she was.
She stared at the offered hand, and made no motion to accept it. What was he--oh. He thought she was a human. Heh. He probably couldn't see her tail, or didn't even notice it amongst the waves.
Part of Haru just wanted to swim away now, having won her prize and in need of nothing else. However . . . it was really his, like he was about to shout before changing his mind instead, so she guessed the least she could do was give him an answer.
" I'm a mermaid," she said plainly, bluntly, as simple as could be and as-matter-of-factly as she continued to look him over, wondering how well he could swim with his legs, if at all. A few moments after speaking, however, Haru realized there a chance he wouldn't believe her. Mermaids and humans didn't often cross paths for a reason, but this human looked about as dangerous as a sea anemone. So Haru shifted and raised her tail out of the water, just enough to show it for three seconds.
It was dappled in various shades of blue with streaks of glassy silver running down in lines, the scales giving a pearly appearance as they ran down to her translucent fin. After giving him a peek, Haru returned her tail to the water, the flipper unintentionally sending a splash in the human's direction.
The mackerel, meanwhile, was dying in her her hands.

Opinion on;
Character in general: usually the whole gender bend thing taps my nerves — because so many other fandoms do it and it gets overbearing. but this particular case is anything but. for some reason the idea of a female haruka intrigues me more than anything else ♥
How they play them: ah-may-zing. you kept haruka’s personality spot on and you didn’t drift — but you still manage to make your haru…different. honestly, i don’t know how you do it but it’s just fantastic tbh ♥
The Mun: my bby okay. you are my bby and ilu — like i am in love with our thread — it’s so intense tbh. manly man haru and lady haru having a race in the pool is just hella. and not to mention the fact that you’re sweeter than a snicker doodle ♥
Do I:
RP with them: omg y e s ♥
Want to RP with them: all the time tbh ♥
What is my;
Overall Opinion: portrayal and writing are through the roof with this one. one million out of ten — and honestly, i would recommend you to all the blogs because you are fantastic. love me please

「 ♒ 」; ; — why did she seem so…shocked?
had anyone else seen it — they might have missed the reaction completely. but haruka nanase knew how to pick out the most subtle of changes. when he felt like it, of course. and now was no different. he saw it. he saw every bit of it.
the way her brow twitched. the way her eyes seemed to widen for the smallest fraction of a second before clouding over to drown out whatever emotion that might have been there. the way her lips parted for a moment. she might have even huffed. and haruka realised then — with some amount of what may have been shock that he only noticed these things because —…
he was guilty of them too. and he knew it.
the gears were turning now — slowly, painfully — and his mind was slowly clearing the fog away. every bit of this girl that was revealed mirrored him in some way that just shouldn’t have been possible — in some way that twisted reality.
and her challenge only served to trigger a spark. the way she so seamlessly uttered that one word…
freestyle…
"fine. let’s race.”
░ 泳ぐ ░
Somehow, she knew he would accept. She felt as if underneath the veils of apathy, they were going through the same emotions at the moment, the same swift gathering of the familiar pages from different books.
Haru wondered how much they really had in common--something about the way he said race seemed to tell her everything, that he didn't care for them usually but he would do one with her because there was some secret here that needed to be uncovered, and like always, the water had the answers.
Without another word, Haru turned and began to swim not to closest edge, but towards the starting blocks themselves, the girl moving fluidly, naturally through the water as her hands laced in and out through the surface. When she reached the starting point, her head burst out of the water, and she shook her head, stray droplets flinging from soaked sable bangs.
Haru lifted herself onto the ground and took her place at one of the blocks, the other soon joining her. She kept her eyes on the water, the shimmer of the translucence as it called out to her senses.
"100 mm. We start when the hand hits `12."

’haru?!’ he responded, 'the fish have no space to move around because of you! you need to get out!’ the orca wanted the dolphin to obey him for once. while waiting for her to answer him properly, he stared at her face. he could tell how calm she was in the water. haru was the only person who was attempt to do such a thing— or else that was what he thought. 'i'll count to three. if you don’t leave his tank, i’ll drag you out of here.’ makoto wished that he would have caught her sooner. fortunately, she was wearing her swimsuit — rather than diving into a fish tank in nude.
░ 泳ぐ ░
- - -did she feel bad for the fish? Maybe a little. But they would have to wait their turn, because Haru hadn't been able to have a good soak in ages. At Makoto's threat Haru only continued to stare back at him for a moment, a brief, light scoff leaving her lips, and then . . . she simply closed her eyes once more, mentally blocking him out.
However, Haruu did lift her hands on each side to press against the glass, holding herself there to show that she wasn't going to leave this tank without putting up a fight.
