I think the reason I enjoy Ghibli so much is it romanticizes the little things. It makes me want to bake, study, clean the house, garden, and more while listening to happy music and occasionally picking wildflowers and lying in the grass. It helps me find joy in day-to-day life and thatâs honestly sooo important for my mental health.

âPersonally I am very pessimistic,â Miyazaki says. 'But when, for instance, one of my staff has a baby you canât help but bless them for a good future. Because I canât tell that child, 'Oh, you shouldnât have come into this life.â And yet I know the world is heading in a bad direction. So with those conflicting thoughts in mind, I think about what kind of films I should be making.â
Perhaps this is why he tells childrenâs stories. 'Well, yes. I believe that childrenâs souls are the inheritors of historical memory from previous generations. Itâs just that as they grow older and experience the everyday world that memory sinks lower and lower. I feel I need to make a film that reaches down to that level. If I could do that I would die happy.â

apparently ravens are associated with death and prophecy because theyâre very intelligent birds and back in the day they learned p quick that large groups of men marching meant imminent corpses to feed on so they would follow armies and i think thatâs v metal

Maybe thatâs enlightenment enough: to know that there is no final resting place of the mind; no moment of smug clarity. Perhaps wisdomâŚis realizing how small I am, and unwise, and how far I have yet to go.

If Iâm an advocate for anything, itâs to move. As far as you can, as much as you can. Across the ocean, or simply across the river. The extent to which you can walk in someone elseâs shoes or at least eat their food, itâs a plus for everybody. Open your mind, get up off the couch, move.

Travel isnât always pretty. It isnât always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But thatâs okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.
