Favorite Music: Hip-hop, R&B, Soul. She’s been listening to a lot of the kids music they get for Lacey recently, though. Not as good, but unfortunately catchy

Biggest Fantasy: Reddick Corporation, living long enough to meet all her grandkids, waking up with Marina wrapped completely around her and their legs intertwined (which hasn’t happened in a looooong time, unfortunately)

💭 - Rowan.

The only times I could think Rowan would be delirious would be when she hasn’t had enough sleep -- she’s not a big drinker anymore, and even in college she rarely got passed functional.

So, when she’s really sleep-deprived (usually because of work things), and Marina has to pull her from the computer and into bed, Rowan usually vouches her worries -- not wanting to leave the computer because this project is critical and she needs to finish, or else she’ll never make her dream before she dies. She’s terrified she’s not going to leave anything for the kids (though she’s given them plenty, even now), and she wants to make sure Marina isn’t worried about anything financially once Rowan’s gone. She’d never tell her wife this when she was in control of herself, but she’s been thinking a lot more about her death as she gets older, and wants to make sure she doesn’t leave anyone with nothing and they’re as prepared as she can make them

The front door dragged open with a heavy whoosh and closed with a solid click just as Rowan finished putting dinner on the table.

“Hey, kiddos!” she tossed the dish towel on the counter and smiled at them as they walked in. “How was Trick or Treating?”

“A bust,” Lacey sighed. “I wore this awesome burgaler costume for nothing!”

“It’s burglar, sweetie,” Marina said from the table. “Really? No one gave you candy?”

“No one was home.” Zion took his plate to the couch. “And we stayed in the neighborhood, like you said.”

“Well, you guys can try again tomorrow,” Rowan said. “And since it’s your birthday, Zion, I think you’ll be old enough to take your sister and your friends a little farther to search for candy.”

“Really?” Lacey gasped.

“Well, Mom and I have to agree,” Rowan said.

Lacey turned glittering eyes on Marina. “Mom?”

Marina rolled her eyes. “You know how things work -- whatever Mama thinks is best, goes. Have fun, babies.”

“Alright!” Zion cheered. “Oh, being a teenager is gonna be so cool.”

“For him,” Rowan whispered in Marina’s ear as she set a plate of pasta before her at the table.

Marina popped her eyebrows in agreement, but otherwise said nothing.

“Promise to stay out of the street,” Rowan said.

“Of course, Mama. I know the rules.” Zion grinned. “I’ll keep her safe.”

“And I’ll keep him safe!” Lacey jumped about the living room, giggling at nothing.

Rowan smirked. “I’m sure you will, lovebug.”

N: “Yeah, what if someone splashes you?”

Q: “Try it and you die.”

Lacey frozen when she saw her mother standing by the stairs, staring at her.

“...Heeeey, Mama,” Lacey said.

A huge grin broke out across Rowan’s face. “Hey, sweetie. Don’t stop on my account -- the police might catch up with you.”

Lacey laughed. “They haven’t been able to catch me yet!”

Rowan rubbed the top of her daughter’s helmet as she headed into the kitchen. “Let’s keep it that way.”

“You got it, Mama. Go right, go right! BEEP BEEP!”

Meet Nix!

Her real name is Phoenix, but she goes by Nix because it sounds a little more badass. She’s nineteen and about to start her sophomore year of college

“Excuse me, but you’re the farthest thing from a decaying corpse I’ve ever seen!” Rowan argued playfully. “Look at you!”

“Oh, you know I’m not about to look my age. I’ll be the hot mom ‘til the day I die.”

Rowan tossed her head back laughing, and despite taking another step closer to death without her life dream achieved, she had to consider this -- with her wife, children, and best friends beside her -- to be her best birthday yet.
