I recently learned about a couple of tourists in Puerto Rico that sprayed chemicals on Puerto Rico’s native frogs, the coquí, because they “couldn’t sleep”.

For those who don’t know, not only is that a crime under both local and federal law, the coquí is a sacred species that is a special part of the island’s identity and ecosystem.

Being Puerto Rican myself, I want to say that as a tourist your job is to respect the land you’re on. If you can’t respect it, don’t go. Simple as that.
