ARTIST STATEMENTS (3)
a) MIDTERM
Represent me and my love for art, music and photography. I like to think there is beauty in every disaster no matter it’s form.
b) FINAL
A woman stands tall in the calm of a tropical beach, her form defined by the sunset's vivid colors and the golden sands. The scene's rich colors and the sound of the gentle waves caressing the shoreline echoes the eternal beat of justice and freedom. She represents the spirit of Article 3 of the Constitution, which protects each person's inalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, as she looks out into the distance. Article 3 acts as an unwavering barrier, like the relentless waves, guaranteeing that the shores of justice stay pure and enabling every individual to flourish in the boundless ranges of their rights and dignity.
c) CURATED
I love using charcoal and paint. I’m not the beast with pencil. I definitely need improvement when it comes to value scales. I tend to go darker then needed.

I enjoyed Jamea Richmond Edwards' Ancient Future exhibition. Her use of vibrant colors and various medians drew me in. I like how there is no white space or emptiness. The use of fabric, paper, ink, and even stuffed animals. Every inch of the canvas is unique and colorful. Jamea Richmond Edwards's Ancient Future uses symbolism and imagination to create visionary works. Her work transports you to a vibrant universe that combines elements of the past, present, and her imagined future. Her world combines black culture, historical mythology, and imagination.
My sketch inspired by Jamea’s Ancient Future painting

Reflection post (1/21/2024)
According to Maggi Hambling, "You must make your work your best friend, that you can go to whenever you're feeling sad, happy, bored, and angry." That is something all three artists have accomplished. Maggi goes on to say, "It isn't difficult to make art, it's difficult to be in the right state of mind to create art." I learned that art is more about the story, idea, and message behind the work than it is about its aesthetics. The reason why certain colors, textures, or materials were selected. Every piece of art is a reflection of the artist, his or her journey, life, and story. "Every portrait is a love affair" - Maggi Hambling. What impressed me the most about all three artists was how their work defied tradition. Sheila Hicks, for example, uses color and texture in unique ways. Maggi Hambling's unique style of creating portraits with multiple colors and textures. My favorite artist was Agnes Martin. Her concept and idea for her work was compelling. At first glance, I thought it was just a blank canvas, but as you look closer, the colors begin to show through. Her paintings represent existence, innocence, and happiness. She goes on to say "From music, people accept pure emotion but from art, they demand an explanation"
