Tarot Details: Death’s Horse
Death’s horse takes center stage in the thirteenth Rider-Waite-Smith card, commanding our attention with its ominous red eye and ghostly coloring. ☠️
It bears a striking resemblance to another horse depicted in another card, the Knight of Cups, of similar posture and color. Together they hint at one of the most fascinating details of the Rider-Waite-Smith.
If the Knight of Cups mimics Death, what do the other Knights represent? And are the four Knights connected?
Possibly. After all, they easily remind us of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
The Knight of Cups, with its slow-moving horse, would represent stagnation and, as mentioned, Death. The Knight of Wands would ride the red horse of War and bloodshed, while the Knights of Swords and Pentacles would ride the horses of Pestilence and Famine, respectively.
This eerie theory adds layers and layers of meaning to the darkest aspects of the Knights.

This is wonderful!
so I tried contacting deities for the first time

☀️ LET ME QUICKLY PREFACE THIS: I NEVER WORK WITH DEITY
I’m a pretty secular witch as far as things go. I’ve never even had a major calling to work with anything beyond general spirit guides until, like…a few days ago.
I’d gotten a reading that said someone in the Norse pantheon was looking to speak with me (even though I’d barely ever given two thoughts about the Norse gods — no offense). Felt a bit meh since I’m still on the fence about if gods and goddesses even exist. But I thought “what the heck” and decided to sit down and do a tarot spread.
⬇️ GOT SOME UNEXPECTED RESULTS
First I was thinking “I’ll try contacting Hestia and see if she exists wants to chat, since I love hearth magic and feel connected to her that way.” But even just thinking about Hestia in general (in that moment) made me feel tense. I just pictured the face of a woman with her lips pursed, like she was awkwardly turning down a gift she didn’t want.
So I felt 1) rejected by this woman in my own imagination and felt sad about it 2) felt embarrassed I could get rejected “by my own imagination” lol and 3) decided maybe that wasn’t the best route. Deck in hand, I thought back to my reading: someone from the Norse was waiting to contact me.
And since I’ve only ever felt slightly drawn to a single Norse deity, I was like “ok then. Hello, Freyja.”
☀️ THE SPREAD
I followed a circle spread created by @hellboundwitch. I also pulled the most Major Arcana cards I’ve prob ever pulled in my entire life wtf
1. Who is this deity? // STRENGTH A pretty “aggressive” card (aka def not Hestia’s traditional vibes). I knew I’d already called upon Freyja by name but it was good to get a card that lined up with her personality.
2. What will our relationship be like? // THE HIEROPHANT I have a pretty positive relationship with the Hierophant card, seeing it like a traditional elder that can give me the baselines I need to know. In this case I interpreted it as she could help me build a spiritual foundation.
3. What do you want from me? // 10 OF WANDS Inspiration. Responsibility. Goals. Completion. Coming into my full self. The wands suit is also personal to me since my sun sign is Leo.
4. How can I best make this happen? // TEMPERANCE A thoughtful card. Moderation, balance, going with the flow. If I’m going to achieve my goals and most well-rounded self, I need to have patience and keep a level head.
5. What might get in my way? // KING OF PENTACLES & THE TOWER I kinda panicked and had trouble choosing between two cards that felt right, so I pulled them both. Maybe one was more “correct” than the other? Either way I would read the Tower as how I should avoid being afraid of big change, uprooting myself from the ground up to build up something new and better. Paired with the King of Pentacles, I should avoid upholding my earthly / “practical” appearances at the cost of not developing my spiritual self.
6. Ultimate outcome of our relationship // THE HANGED MAN The literal “profound transformation” / turn your life upside down card. Um. Ok. The result of the Hanged Man is letting go of your old status quo in favor of a new perspective, so…yeahhh.
A lot to deal with. But apparently all of this wasn’t enough for me since I still wanted to pull more cards. Like, beyond feeling the weird urge to pull all my cards with my left hand instead of right, I wasn’t sure if anything was actually going on in this reading or if it was all in my head?? So I spontaneously asked a few more questions.
1. Do you want to work with me? // KING OF SWORDS This instantly felt like a “I’m cutting through / calling you out on your bullshit” card. Which like #tru cuz I’d just done a whole spread about lessons I’d learn from working with her and then asked the exact same question again but you know. This felt like a sharp, annoyed “YES!” although I know some consider all Swords cards to be no’s (to each their own).
2. What lesson will I learn from this? // THE SUN Pure optimism, warmth, true self. Connecting with your limitless inner energy. This card is also important to me, being a solar witch and all.
3. What should I keep in mind? // PAGE OF SWORDS & THE CHARIOT Another moment where I felt like I couldn’t choose between two cards. These are also both very MOVEMENT and ACTION oriented. I guess I need to be unafraid to take action and move forward to start manifesting my best path.
Tbh…even after all of this I don’t know what to think. I will say I def noticed my random inclination to draw with my left hand and I’m still impressed by how many fuckin Major Arcana cards I pulled. Did I contact a deity? An opinionated spirit? Any spirit at all cuz honestly I still have trouble tapping into my intuition when it comes to tarot sometimes? Who knows.
I closed out the night lighting a candle as an offering and asking for some physical world sign of a connection with her (since I’m still very much new to this / figuring out if I believe in deities at all). But it certainly was an interesting start. 🌱
deck used: anima mundi tarot (aka my fav deck of all time go buy it on Etsy rn)

I did this spell before my interview this morning and had a call with a job offer within an hour! Yippee!!!
Interview/Performance Review/Presentation: Spell for the Working Witch
One of the most empowering things that happened for me in 2017 is that I got my first adult job. Real hours, paychecks, taxes, the whole nine yards. It’s allowed me to pay for my entire college education on my own.
And since I am going in for a performance review today, I decided to write up a quick spell for all of my working witches. This simple spell will give you a boost of charm and magnetizing energy. Great for interviews, performance reviews, meetings, or presentations where you need to be confident and poised.
You will need:
A ring
Optional- salt, salt lamp, moon/sun/rain water, candles, or incense
Step 1- Pick out a ring. I wear my class ring pretty much every day. If you’d like, you can also substitute a bracelet or necklace, but a ring will work best, as I’ll explain later.
Step 2- If you’d like, charge the ring using salt, a salt lamp, some charged water, smoke, or your preferred method of cleansing and charging. This is optional, but can provide a little extra oomph if you would like.
Step 3- Before you walk into your meeting, roll your shoulders back and hold your head up high. Twist your ring three times around, clockwise. Say: I make my energy bright times three, and it harm none, so mote it be.
Step 4- Flash your biggest, brightest smile and walk in with your head held high. You’ve got this!
I think a ring works best for this spell, but if you’d like to use another piece of jewelry or a fidget toy, or even just the incantation, that’s also an option. The wording of the spell can also be modified, depending on your intent.
Are you a working witch? Share your favorite spells/sigils/methods for being an awesome witch in the workplace.
Brightest blessings! -Kate

I got the job within an hour of getting back to my desk! Yippee!!!

A quick reading: “How will the interview go?”
Snake and clover indicates that I will have good luck in attaining my desires. It’s a good opportunity for me. Also since snake is often associated with women it means a lucky woman (me!).
Coffin and ship indicates the and emigration of sorts. The ending of one thing with movement to something new. Perfect cards for a job interview!
Snake and ship indicates the journey of a woman. But it could also indicate some trouble with the journey. Maybe transition issues.
The culmination card is 20: The Garden which indicates public meetings and being notcied by others.
Side Notes: I had the cards laying face up and the Rider was sitting there. Positive News on the horizon!
Cross your fingers for me!

One set that I failed to mention was the Clover/Coffin. It would mean the loss of my ‘easy life’ and I am very comfortable here where I am. This job would mean a lot more work and quite the learning curve to hurdle.
The interview went really well though. I anticipate a call about it soon!

I might have fallen a little too far down the “tarot deconstruction and history” rabbit hole right before bed last night because I had a dream that someone (I wish I could remember who!!) was talking with me about it and they said the Minors would make more sense if they were organized differently and then laid the cards out like this:

And, like, fuck that person in my brain might be on to something? Because that kind of works? Or at least it could be a really useful way to teach new readers struggling with conceptualizing the court cards.
It clearly works really well with Wands (that’s the suit used in my dream) but I gotta really sit and see if it works for the other suits (it might not). I’ve apparently been given an assignment by my unconscious….

Is The Woman Trustworthy
Here is a little lenormand spread that I did late last night. The question officially was “is she trustworthy?’ but the feelings behind that was ‘will she make a trustworthy friend?’ As a grown up I find it harder to make friends. Does that happen to any of you? And when I do find a new friend I sometimes worry if I’m trusting them heedlessly. Here is my attempt to quiet those fears. If you have worries like that and would like a lenormand reading I can do this same spread for you for $25 dollars! Message me and we’ll find you some answers!

Here is a clearer map to look at while I go over it.

Lenormand is like pictographs. You read them with very strict associations instead of the allowances for different styles you see in tarot. You can read down, across, diagonally, and what is called ‘knighting’. Here is my interpretation:
First Across:
22, 25, 6: Choosing to commit could lead to trouble or uncertainty.
27, 20, 14: The information shared between you will be never be the full story. There will be cunning and trickery (the clouds above the fox also indicate this will be to hide something she doesn’t want me to see)
35, 16, 36: Her commitment to psychic or emotional development (an emotional energy sharing relationship) is real
Then Down:
22, 27, 35: The decision to open communication with her will create a deep connection
25, 20 , 16: The commitment will be pleasant and inturitive.
6, 14, 36: There will be some hiding of her past & the suffering there with skirting around the topic.
Diagonally:
22, 20, 36: The decision to make friend with her is emotionally hard
35, 20, 6: And the commitment to befriend her is still uncertain.
Knighting:
22, 14: Her choice to befriend you comes with hidden motives
25, 36: The commitment has challenges but feels destined
6, 16: The murkiness could be uncovered in time
22, 16: The decision to trust will open your psychic and emotional abilities
Corners:
22, 6, 35, 36: The decision is unclear whether she will be a faithful dedicated friend.
Outcome Card:
10: A Welcome Gift. Full of surprises. A pleasant kind woman.
Culmination Cards:
3 Ship: A Foreigner (this person is from another country so this was humorous!)
12 Birds: Energized Chatter. Pairs (this reminded me of friends gabbing away)
So there ya have it. She’s not a kindred spirit but it seems I’ve made a friend. And yah she’s got a past she’s not revealing but we’re still new in the ‘relationship’ and all things come in their own time. I’m going to roll with it for now.
Would you like a reading like this? This is for teaching purposes but I’d love to do a full lenormand spread for you! Message me and we’ll find an answer to what’s on your mind!
