i do feel a little lost when it comes to hobbies or even potential careers. it's not that i don't know what to do in life, the opposite is my problem. i wanna do way too much game design, art, electrical egnineering, discrete mathematics, graphic design, aerospace engineering, all fields you could dedicate a lifetime to yet i don't have multiple lifetimes, barely even one. sometimes it feels like all the time i have is one afternoon

i talked abt this on twitter a while ago, but the thought came back to me recently. i tend to dislike most of the fanmade redesigns of popular anime/game characters i find online. even if the point of the redesign is to involve more cultural elements from the character's culture/inspiration, which is a good cause imo. this is mainly for 2 reasons that are a bit connected to each other
Seemingly antagonizing the original design This really is mostly a "me issue", but i notice that a lot of the redesigns i see heavily criticize or even antaginize the original design/designer, consciously or not. I do realize this is sort of impossible to avoid, as in a way, that's the whole point of making fan redesigns. You either think there is something wrong with the original or that you can personally do a better job at it (or both). So i do understand that, but some redesigns take a very arrogant approach sometimes outright stating that the new design is a "fix", implying that it's a direct improvement in most if not all ways. While i understand the frustration with lack of/bad representation in games, it kind of makes me sad to see designs born from or promoted by spite rather than appreciation. I would have also mentioned it's really disrespectful to take an artist's work and say that you "fixed" it, when the artist probably had only good intentions, but i doubt 99% of these fan redesigns are seen by the original artist so that's probably a moot point.
Lack of forethought, consideration of technical limitations, etc. Despite pretaining to more techincal elements, i feel like this point is somehow even more personal than the last.... While most of the designs i see have some really clever elements, they usually lack practicality, both in realism and implementation. This is understandable as a lot of artists who make them are hobby illustrators, and not professional character designers. And probably all are done for fun or just to present an idea for a redesign, rather than actual implementation. But this kind of compounds with the first point, where if the design is presented as a "fix" but lacks in a lot of techincal areas where the original is serviceable, it makes the fan artist seem arrogant and foolhardy.
But all in all, i'm not actually mad at any of the artists who do this sort of work. I think i would much much rather have things be as they are than to just not have any redesigns at all. I realize a lot of these ppl do it just for fun or to share their cool ideas, and i'm overanalyzing the hell out of this topic, but i had some feelings abt this that i needed to get out of my brain :)
Sorry for this post being so long. I shall now get the proverbial stick out my ass and just enjoy the many ideas different people have to share online when it comes to character design

i have this habit where when i'm talking about something very important/emotional to me, i'll be talking in a normal upbeat way, and then randomply my voice will just crack and i almost break down into tears as i try to continue talking. it usually takes a few sentences to recover, but i'm completely back to normal after that.
it also happens when i play music in the car sometimes, esp for the tracks i really really like. if the music is playing and the person i'm driving with asks me smth i gotta be really really careful to not just break down crying.
aah i think it weirds people out.... it weirds me out.

recently i noticed that whenever there's a character in genshin who is written around being knowledgeable about certain topic/having a hobby, the writing seems to fall quite flat.... the character is usually written with a sort of surface level understanding of the topic, whether that be due to a lack of research or intentionally.
chiori (fashion/sewing), freminet (diving) and kokomi (military strategy) are the ones i've noticed myself, but likely there are some more. i honestly can't tell if this is because a lack of interest from the side of the writers, or simply their lack of belief in the players, as if they were writing a game for 10-year-olds (no offense to 10-year-olds).
and this is really unusual considering that g writers can be very good when it comes to making literary references and constructing stories in pretty much any content that isn't at the very surface level of character interactions or main quests!! it's really unfortunate this is the course they often decide to take with their characters. i guess this is why a lot of g chars end up feeling kinda flat unless they have some tragic backstory attached to them :')

i have a (sort of unconscious) habit where if there's a topic i'm sort of interested in, but don't really have the time or energy to get into, i assign it to a character i like. this works in two ways. firstly, it lets me create fun headcanons for my favorite characters, making me feel closer to them. secondly, it's a sort of memo, and also inspires me to learn about the topic whenever i'm able to.
"well, statistics seem really cool, aventurine is good at statistics after all" or "shu likes combinatorial geometry, i should read up on it" are the types of thoughts i have at times. it's also why half my favorite characters have some sort of STEM field or topic as one of their interests in my list of headcanons :^)

aventurine is sort of a unique case among characters i like. he's the first one of my favs who i do harbor some amount of genuine contempt for, even if purely within the context of the story, and not as a viewer of it. obviously it's not a huge amount of hate, otherwise he wouldn't be my favorite character. but it's still there.
i want to see him struggle, and get pushed back to a wall by other players in penacony. it's both because i want to see his character explored in more depth as a fan, but i also genuinely think it's what he deserves.
i wouldn't go so far as to say i don't want him to succeed in whatever he's planning. i just want him to suffer a bit along the way, maybe it'll teach him something :)
