Look… sure, well done to Mercedes for addressing this. But it feels a bit late considering the fact that over a year ago an email was sent to the entirety of the F1 paddock (media pundits included) by a fan of a certain driver, which was entirely homophobic towards your driver.
That was the peak of the hate/sexism/homophobia towards George, but it had been happening for 3 years before that point. (Aleix spoke in a podcast about the sorts of things George had been sent by fans over the past years).
Whether I haven’t been looking in the right places or what, but over the past few months, the comments under Mercedes posts have been the most supportive of both drivers that I have ever seen, so I’m unsure what flipped Mercedes to finally make this post. If anyone has an idea please let me know.
It shows that Merc can call out behaviour like this and it’s disappointing to see that they didn’t address it for all those years George received abuse from his teammate’s fans.

even if you have a bad race or weekend, you know, when you get back home it doesn’t really matter, does it? you see the little baby, little girl smiling at you and.. it’s okay. life goes on and that’s at the end of the day the most important

George Russell talks about his role as the GPDA director
— "I'm not chasing to leave any legacy. That's never been the intention. It's just that if I see an opportunity to improve something, I want to speak about it, especially if it comes to track safety or car safety"
