Later, Max will turn to him, meeting his gaze head on, and ask if George truly hadn’t seen him in his mirrors at turn eight, like George had claimed. He'll rub his hands on his racesuit as he says it, like he'll be rid of the phantom feeling of George's hair from between his fingers if he wipes them hard enough. George will look back at him, licking the taste of Max from the back of his teeth like he can savour it, and will reply, “of course I didn’t,” lying through his smile.

George is well-versed in casual sex. There’s not much of another option for him, really — he doesn’t think he could commit to getting involved on more than a superficial level when he’s half way across the world on any given day. Wouldn’t be fair to them, or him, and it’s much better this way, no strings attached and everything just for a bit of fun. 

It’s what he tells himself, anyway. 

And he likes it when someone just wants him for his body, sometimes. Likes it in a way that gets him all hot and bothered and that would have his therapist saying a few choice words, probably. 

Usually, it’s enough. But watching Max hurry out of bed, bending over to grab at his clothes and throw George’s behind him whilst George is in the middle of wiping come off his stomach, he wonders if he’s so good at casual sex because he’s accustomed to not being worth anything more, and so he’s made what he does get work for him.

He’s been told he’s good at maximising and capitalising his potential since he walked into Toto Wolff’s office with a PowerPoint he’s never lived down and a pipeline dream, so, maybe it tracks. 

Or maybe he’s just being dramatic.

Later, when he’s focusing very hard on not limping his way through Monaco’s winding streets back to his own flat, an ache between his legs and an emptiness in his chest that’s borderline alarming and something he’s resolutely not paying any mind to, George decides that, yeah. Casual sex can be great, unless one of you is apparently more invested than the other, and then it’s — not. It doesn’t feel great at all, actually, after. 

That’s not to say he wouldn’t do it all again, if Max asks.
