Chapter 2
She had two options to think about after that ‘encounter’ or whatever you want to call it. Get in line like the rest of the students and eventually ‘hopefully’ her new toy status wears off and she fades into the sea of students. But that would depend on how HE acts after the dinner encounter. And something told Lumine from the way Amber and Barbara reacted to even speaking of the red headed devil he was a force to be reckoned with.
She tossed and turned in the night thinking of different scenarios for the morning.
There were boys like him back home. Maybe not filthy rich, sons of local shop owners, that acted like him. None of them possessed the same air as he did. Being able to part a sea of students just by walking has to be a superpower in itself.
Come to think of it she didn’t even find out where he was from, perhaps she should ask. The more info the better when it comes to defending herself.
She was never one to sit down and take abuse. When she was just in grade school the local boys knew not to mess with her after a few unfortunate incidents. Her mother always told her it was her blonde hair and honey eyes that made her stand out.
It always starts with them testing you. Small things to annoy you, just to see how you react. She would not be able to keep her temper down if that happened. She already had an issue with her mouth as it is.
She turned one final time in the plush bed she had been provided with. The school had made sure even the scholarship students were treated above average. It was impressive, but did little to dampen her jitters.
-
First day, which means new people and new teachers. Lumine was walked by Amber and Barbara to the faculty building. Razor was found sitting on a bench halfway there. It brought a smile to her face.
Razor had never left Amber’s side the entire night they sat talking. It was girl gossip that Lumine was never into, but enjoyed now that she had some people to actually talk to. Not many people are willing to come to a run-down farm for a sleepover back home. Razor himself didn’t talk much, but Lumine was observant. He sat on her bed and watched her, every action, smile, glance. Lumine was quite interested in understanding what Ambers reservations about him were. She seemed to like him from her perspective.
More questions for later.
A plump woman greeted her at the front desk. She was cheerful, but not like Mrs. Lee was, instead giving off warm motherly tones. Lumine could imagine her doting on all the students she came in contact with.
“Here you are dear.” She handed her a slip of paper with her classes.
“Thanks,” Lumine said quietly as she read the sheet. Alchemy, ancient runes, adventuring 101, history, then finally vision training. She internally laughed at the last class, perhaps they were going to rename it. She pulled on the collar of her school issued cardigan as it threatened to slide off one shoulder.
“Just head out to the academics building Mrs. Lee showed you yesterday and a student will be waiting to guide you to your classes,” The woman told her. Lumine nodded and gave back a genuine smile before turning to leave.
It was easy to pick out the student waiting for her in front of the buildings doors despite the crowds entering and exiting. It was a green haired girl nervously fisting her skirt between fidgeting with her glasses. Two small animal ears poked out from under her main of messy hair. She wore her skirt long, unlike the rest of the student body (and Lumine herself), and covered up with a baggy school issued cardigan like Lumine’s.
“Are you the one waiting for the new girl?” Lumine asked. The girl snapped out of a nervous trance and a blush covered her features.
“Ah! Y-yes,” She stuttered before taking a breath, “Sorry I get nervous easily, my names Sucrose,” she extended a hand.
“Thats a pretty name, I like it,” Lumine said as she returned the handshake. She hoped it might calm her down but Sucrose turned scarlet instead.
“I-I'll walk you to your class,” She mumbled and walked inside. Lumine followed silently, deciding the best course of action was to not embarrass her further.
She led her to a decently sized class of students with a portly teacher standing in the front. He wore robes and a ridiculously oversized wizards' hat. The site was an oddity in Lumines eyes, having only ever had exceptionally plain teachers back home. Sucrose left Lumine at the front of the class as she shuffled over to the teacher, managing to get his attention with a simple clearing of her throat. Lumine decided to inspect the chalk board instead of the students. She didn’t want to know if the red headed asshole was in here yet.
“Ah yes Lumine!” The teacher bellowed and waved her over. She stepped lightly up onto his raised platform as sucrose scurried to her seat in the front row. “My name is professor Rasmodius, take a seat next to Zhongli back there,” He pointed off into the right of the room. Lumines stomach sank at the mention of a familiar name. She dragged herself to the back of the class and slid into the empty stool next to him.
They made eye contact and she swore she could see the gears turning in his mind before he spoke.
“He’s not in this class,” He said in monotone.
Lumine choked on her own spit, “w-what?” she asked him.
“He’s not here, if that is what you are worried about,” He smiled down at her sweetly. Lumine felt her face heat up.
“I don’t care if he's here or not,” She quickly recovered and crossed her arms.
“Hm,” He put a hand on his chin, “You had the same gaze as most other new females.”
“Yes, well sorry for being nervous.”
“Perhaps I have made a wrong assumption, I apologize,” He turned his body to her, “Zhongli of the Wangsheng funeral parlor.”
Lumine fumbled a bit at his words. Was it normal to greet someone with your name and what company you hail from? She eyed him wearily for a moment then decided to screw it. Not like they wouldn’t find out if she lies.
“Lumine of a very poor farm outside of Mondstadt.”
He chuckled in a low deep tone. Lumine felt her façade falling as her heart sped up.
“Sorry, perhaps too formal?” He asked.
“You talk like you are speaking to a business partner,” she told him honestly.
“Ive been told that before, even by my friends,” He admitted. For the first time Lumine’s lips quirked into a teasing smile.
“Alright class today we will be looking into the mythical potions of Esteria! page 103!” The teacher commanded. The room filled with the sounds of turning pages.
“I didn’t get a book?” Lumine questioned.
“You will more than likely get them at some point today,” Zhongli told her as he slid his book over between them, “here share mine.”
“Thanks,” She mumbled, dipping behind her hair to hide her blush. Perhaps her friends were right, most of the group wasn’t that bad.
-
Okay maybe they were wrong, at least two out of the four were very very bad. She had not seen the infamous Childe today, but after alchemy Zhongli was very kind to walk her to the next class. Relieving a very thankful, yet worried, sucrose from her job.
They talked about small things, mostly how the school was going, what she thought of it, what kind of things she did back in Mondstadt. To her surprise Zhongli seemed genuinely interested in the day to day life of a poor person. He was awkwardly polite with everything, but had a sincerity to him that he wore on his sleeve.
There was just one sneaking suspicion she had regarding the man. How on earth does a funeral parlor have enough money to send their son to this school AND be the top of the food chain. Surely these boys were flooded with money otherwise the attention wouldn’t be as drastic. There were even glares tossed her way as they walked to the next class.
It was nice to have the attention, he had a smooth deep voice that sent her insides into a flurry. That was until they came upon Xiao. The boy was shorter than his tall geo counterpart and crossed his arms at their arrival. He glared at her as Zhongli added another sentence to their conversation. The words fell on deaf ears as Lumine tried to fight back a snarky remark. She had done nothing to earn this glare from him and it was irking her.
“Keep glaring like that and your face will freeze that way,” She blurted out.
“What?” He hissed at her.
“Ah,” Lumine back tracked, she didn’t mean to speak her thoughts like that, “you just look awfully peeved is all,” she decided on. He narrowed his eyes at her.
Day one, mouth already got her in trouble, nice.
They had a standoff for a few moments before Xiao conceded with a huff and turned into the room.
“Don't worry about him, he's weary of newcomers,” Zhongli said from besides her. She looked up to him for reassurance and was once again met with an honest gaze and smile.
“I-” She began to say and stopped to think about it, “I trust you.”
Even if he was lieing, what harm would come of it? She loses a friend she never even had?
Ancient runes was a snooze fest as expected. She sat next to an incredibly ordinary looking girl who should have hissed like a cat when Lumine sat down. It would have made the look she gave her less comical.
But things perked up in Adventuring 101. The class was useless to someone like her. It was basically preaching about basic safety the entire time. Don’t touch pryo slimes, they hurt. Don’t go off fighting electro monsters in the rain, that also hurts. Always have food rations and medical potions on you!
Blah.
She didn’t need this info, but it was a required class. Get a taste of everything before heading off to the college and decide what classifications you want. Stupid rules some adult made to torture the youngins.
It was fifteen minutes into the class. There was a saving grace, she had a seat next to Zhongli. He shared his book with her again and was polite and overly cordial as always. She assumed the class was full with everyone in attendance. There were a few empty desks but students could be sick or the class could have fewer students than desks.
Then HE walked in, opening the door without a care in the world, loudly. There was this beaming, disgustingly fake, smile plastered to him. A girl followed him inside, checking her makeup on a small compact mirror. They seated themselves in the empty spots adjacent to herself and Zhongli.
The teacher scolded him as he walked, but he ignored it with a shrug. His entire demeanor made her want to mop the floor with his pretty face. Just like the boys back home. She made a point to keep her eyes forwards or at the text in front of her. Not wanting to give him any ideas. There was a cold chill crawling up her spine again, he was staring.
The class continued onwards. The teacher quickly dropped the subject of publicly shaming Childe for walking in to class late. They were moving on to something at least slightly interesting she didn’t know too much about. How to read the stars and sun for location and time. It was something she never needed as she stayed close to home.
It was useful to her so she took out her notepad and began to scribble down some text out of the book as she teacher lectured. She made it a few words in before the girl next to Childe giggled in that high pitch way girls do when they are trying to impress a man.
She dared a side glance over to the table and noticed the girl enamored by him. Getting a full view of the back of her head as Childe whispered sweet nothings to her. He sensed her gaze and looked up, making eye contact. She went back to her work before the girl could turn, clearing her throat.
He was testing her; she could feel it. Between yesterday's stare down and this there was no mistaking it.
“Something wrong?” Zhongli asked her in a low whisper.
“Just a little difficult to get work done with so many distractions,” She growled.
“You will grow accustom soon,” He told her. She laughed quietly at his choice of words. Someone needed to remind him he was still a teenager.
The entire period passed with flirtatious whispers and laughs flying.
And not, one. God. Damn. Time, did the teacher say anything to the two culprits. Although something told her Childe was the true mastermind behind the distraction. She tried her best, she really did, but Lumine was never great at keeping her temper in control. Not when it came to completely asinine males making a side show out of a class.
Her pencil lead snapped on her paper.
“Shit,” she whispered.
“It seems you have snapped your lead,” Zhongli murmured. She refrained from calling him captain obvious. There was a chuckle to her right, this time clearly mocking and directed at her, she herself snapped. She turned and with pin point accuracy threw the pencil at her tormentor. The eraser bounced off his forehead, sending the object into an unknown destination in the room.
The smile fell from his features and they traded deadly glares. The girl sitting with him was busying herself cooing over him asking what's wrong. Oblivious to the events that just unfolded. Zhongli of all people fucking laughed.
She turned her glare into a smug grin reading ‘what are you gunna do about it? now shut the hell up’ and turned back to her work. She leaned back and crossed her arms.
“Well played young lady,” Zhongli whispered to her.
The option of fading into the background had vanished.

Chapter 1
The school located on an island inside the neutral zones between nations is a blessing for anyone without a swimming pool filled with mora. Without money you have to be gifted a vision to attend. That is why Lumine thought she would never be accepted to such a place. Instead cursed to live her life on a small farm on the outskirts of Mondstadt, killing small monsters for money to aid her ailing mother.
She had become quite the prodigy around the area. Her sword work was nothing to be trifled with. Some would even gush about what it would be like if she did have a vision. Then it happened, a strange string of life changing events.
-
She enjoyed spending her free time sitting under the statue of the seven in windrise. It gave her a reprieve from her day-to-day life of school, killing, then sleep. She polished her blade most days she sat there, enjoying the sounds of the wilderness around her.
As she sheathed her blade, wistfully thinking about what it would be like to magically summon and desummon it as a vision user, a light began to shine behind her. There was a flash, she thought maybe a vision might appear in front of her. But this was no test or life changing event. It didn’t make sense.
Wind surrounded her body, lifting her skit in the breeze. She turned, it followed with her. She lifted her hand as a power surged through her. A burst of wind jetted from her palm and sliced across the water. It trimmed the tops off the over grown grasses lining the ponds edge. The wind died down and left her for elsewhere as the light slowly faded out of existence.
Befuddled, she stared at the palms of her hands. She felt a power emanating from her core. With a trembling arm she raised her palm again, calling forth on the energy. It darted from her as before. Shocked, she tried it again and again, smiling gleefully with each blast of wind. She twirled around, searching for her vision, but came up empty.
-
That is how the first visionless anemo user was born. At first people didn’t believe her. Delusions were not unknown to the common folk of Teyvat. They were a staple favorite of the mafia families across the regions. But she quickly smashed those theories to pieces. Not only was she a poor farm girl fighting to survive, but where on earth would she have the money to afford such a thing. She allowed an inspection of her things and a pat down to prove it.
After the authorities decided that she did not have a vision she was free to do as she wished. That was until the head master of Teyvat’s school for the gifted showed up on her doorstep. The scholarship she was offered would give more money to her mother per month than she could in six months of hunting. She took it without question.
That’s how she ended up here, gawking at the building in front of her. The school defied the rumors. Statues carved from marble, fountains that defied gravity, even the wood it was built from looked impossibly expensive. Heck, the wildlife looked like they ate from golden platters.
The only thing that held her from running right back to the boat was a woman pinning her down with a chemically assisted cheerful gaze. A shiver ran up her spine as she waved her over. She obliged only because her eyes looked a hair away from snapping into crazy land.
“Welcome to Teyvat’s finest Lumine!” She cheered and began to clap.
“Thanks,” She mumbled, intimidated by her nature. She looked like a robot. Sleek black hair, not a strand out of place. Perfectly pressed blazer and pencil skirt in matching shades. Her glasses glistening in the sunlight, even if they were just plain black frames. She hoped not everyone in this school looked or felt this way.
“Follow me and I'll take you to your dorm. Then it’s a trip around campus!” She quipped then turned on her heel. Even her footsteps were a perfect tempo.
They walked through the faculty building, which thankfully looked normal inside. The site quelled her turning stomach. It was into the garden next that, as expected, looked immaculate. They even had a massive sand garden. Back in Mondstadt something like that would be destroyed in seconds.
Eventually they came upon another wooden building with a large ‘girls’ over it. The woman stopped and spun so fast on her heel Lumine almost let out small scream.
“This is the girl's dorm; your roommates are waiting for you inside with your things. I'll be back in thirty minutes for the rest of the tour,” she said, smile never once faltering as she left Lumine to her own devices.
Her roommates were nice, they greeted her in the common room just as her guide stated. Amber was a bit too enthusiastic for just about anything. Barbara was a very cheerful girl but was more reserved. It was a breath of fresh air to see two friendly faces. They led her to their dorm to get settled.
“So, what do you think?” Amber asked as Lumine began to unpack her luggage. Placing her uniforms carefully into her small closet along with her own casual clothing. Her own things almost felt dirty comparted to the schools uniform she was provided. And the room was much bigger than what she expected from a dormitory.
“It's overwhelming,” She admitted.
“You'll get used to it,” Amber laughed.
“Are you?” Lumine began to ask.
“Scholarship,” Amber answered, holding up her vision, “They keep the poor kids together so we don’t infect the rich kids.” She laughed.
“Hey!” Barbara yelled at her. Lips pointing into a pout.
“Except for Barbara, she requested to room with me. She's the exception.” Amber smiled at her friend.
“So, it's exactly how I thought it would be,” Lumine grumbled. This school was probably dripping with rich kids causing trouble for the normal folk, like she expected.
“Some of the students are alright, indifferent you might say. But there are,” Amber held up her hands as air quotes, “those types.”
“Will you guys be in my classes?” She asked.
“Nope, third years!”
Lumine felt her insides twist. Great, now she would be alone on her first day. At least her dorm would be nice. Amber was warm and friendly and Barbara seemed sweet even if she wasn’t talking as much. The pair would only be a year below her so they were still close in age. Hopefully she wouldn’t be moved to another dorm with the ‘adults’ if she attends the next four years after this one.
“You don’t want to be in our year anyways,” Barbara laughed.
“Whys that?” Lumine felt a small smile form for the first time since she set foot on the island. Barbara wiggled her eyebrows and gleamed over at Amber. She turned red in response and threw a pillow at her.
“Stop! Its not my fault!” She shouted.
“It’s gross the way he drools over his desk for you,” Barbara added.
“Mind filling me in?” Lumine asked.
“No!” Amber shouted.
“She has this wolf boy that follows her around and causes trouble. Its adorable,” Barbara said anyways.
“I didn’t ask for it he just did it!” Amber defended herself.
“It's like a comedy slash horror show every day,” Barbara giggled.
“Stop teasing me,” Amber whined.
“Wolf boy?” Lumine asked. Mondstadt had a steady population of people descendant of shape shifters or animals, but she had never seen a wolf before. Most of them were cats. Granted, she did keep to herself and didn’t really mix with the town folk, even at school.
“Half werewolf, half human, grew up in the wild before coming here earlier in the year,” Amber explained.
“He can smell everything, it's awful,” Barbara moaned, “one time I tried to bring some leftovers from lunch and he almost ripped apart my bag looking for it.”
“Sounds like a nice boyfriend,” Lumine said, hiding her smile as she sorted items into her desk drawers. Amber gasped from behind her. She swallowed a laugh.
“H-he's not my boyfriend!” She yelled. Lumine busted and began to giggled along with Barbara. She was interested in seeing the exchanges between the two now.
“Very funny guys, I'll make sure to make fun of your pain in suffering next time I get the chance.” Amber crossed her arms.
“Alright I'll stop,” Barbara waved her hand at her. A sharp knock on the door quickly soured the cheerful mood. The door swung open and Lumine’s guide walked in.
“Fantastic, I'm so glad you are getting along with your new housemates. We must complete the tour now.” The woman said, still as cheerful as ever. Lumine noticed Barbara and Ambers shoulders fell on her entrance. “I'll be waiting out front,” she chirped and left.
“God, Mrs.Lee always gives me the creeps,” Amber said.
“Glad it's not just me,” Lumine laughed as she stood.
“Good luck! See you at dinner,” Amber waved as Lumine exited the room. She heard faint whispers of gossip as she left but knew it was nothing bad, those girls didn’t have a mean bone in them.
-
They walked around campus and Lumine slowly became accustomed to the wildly expensive taste. She was shown the inside of the year one through four buildings, for the fourteen-to-eighteen-year old's. Then the outside of the adult facilities. Mrs. Lee assured the only real difference between the two was the uniform requirement and some extra freedoms.
After taking the tour she felt less overwhelmed, but it was the final stop that really cemented the reality most of the students lived in. It was the cafeteria of the school, but should have been classified as a food court. There was the line for the scholarship students where they could use one of three free meal tickets per day, or a snack coupon, all loaded onto her school ID. Wich was normal, same thing that she had in Mondstadt, minus the dinner.
What was different was the restaurants lining the walls. Everything you could imagine from each region on tap. And the prices were nothing to scoff at. A Fishermans toast was going for ten thousand mora, she could make that for less than three hundred back home. Lines scaled out to the isles as students waited, eager to be robbed for food.
“Lumine!” A familiar voice shouted. She sighed in relief. A distraction to this insanity was required right about now. She carried her tray adorned with less appetizing food from the school over to the table Amber sat at.
“This place is crazy,” Lumine sighed in exhaustion.
“My first day I ran away,” Amber laughed. She placed a spoon full of mac and cheese into her mouth.
“Those prices are more than I make in three weeks back home,” She said as she began to eat. Pleasantly surprised that even the free food was delectable. The pasta was perfectly cooked, cheese sauce an ideal creamy texture. She moved on to nibble at her cookie, baked expertly with a crispy outside and a gooey center. “God,” she murmured, savoring the taste.
“I told you, you get used to it,” Amber smiled sweetly. A book bag slamming down on the table instantly cleared her face. She looked up to see what she assumed was the wolf boy from earlier discussions. Lumine wondered why Amber felt it was bad to have his attention. He was attractive, silver hair and red eyes, giving him an exotic look. His arms were coated in scars and a massive one gashed his face, not a bad look if your into that type. Some of the girls back home would swoon over the attention.
“Why,” She groaned as he pulled out a seat, pushing it right up against hers as he sat a plate of meat and potatoes down. It must have been one of the free creature meals from the school line. He sat, making sure he was as close as physically possible to her.
Okay, maybe that’s why. Lumine began to understand.
He tilted his head like a new puppy, “Why?” He asked, voice thick with an unknown accent.
“We talked about this,” She shoved his chair away. “This is Razor,” She sighed as he sunk into his chair to pout. Lumine nodded and greeted him with a smile.
“I bought brownies!” Barbara sang as she skipped over to the table, “For our new friend,” She handed out the sweets, “And beef jerky for you,” She said as she handed Razor a slim piece of dried meat. He perked up and took it, chewing on it greedily. After the experience with the cookie Lumine thought the food couldn’t get better. But the brownie was smooth decadent layers of velvet chocolate that melted in her mouth. She had to suppress a groan.
There was a pickup of chatter in the room that pulled her from her chocolate induced fantasy. She looked towards the entrance of the café where a group of boys walked in. They were followed by a gaggle of other students, mostly female, all adorned with an expensive accessory or more.
Lumine was an honest person and she did not deny to herself that these boys looked like royalty. They walked with an air of confidence even through the crowd, knowing that the sea of students would part for them. She counted each of their visions, anemo, geo, cryo and hydro. There was a distinct leader to the group out of the four. A redhead who wore his vision on his belt, showing it off by messily tucking in half of his unkept shirt. Like he wanted people to see it, unlike the rest of them that wore them on chains by their side, as did everyone else in the school.
“Don't stare,” Amber hissed. Lumine snapped her eyes to her friends.
“Who are they?” She asked. Amber eyed her wearily before divulging the information.
“Sons of the school's elite,” She glanced back at the group to ensure they were distracted with food or girls before continuing, “The shorter one with green hair is Xiao, the son of the wangshu inn owner. The geo looking guy is Zhongli from the Wangsheng funeral parlor. Blue hair is Kaeya, one of the sons from the dawn winery.” Amber stopped speaking as she got to the last subject. Lumine quirked a brow as both Barbara and Amber swiveled their heads to check on the group again.
“It's not really them you should be weary of though; besides Xiao they are nice. Xiao has always had a stick up his butt,” Barbara added to the conversation.
“Then what is it, why are we acting like we are defusing a bomb?” Lumine asked.
“It's Childe, the redhead,” Amber whispered.
“Childe? That’s a dumb name,” Lumine thought out loud. The girls hissed at her to keep her voice down.
“He smells mean,” Razor added. Amber pulled on his ear.
“I told you not to talk about him,” She growled at him. He grasped her hand in his, forcing her to release.
“But you are!” he argued.
“Thats because we are warning her!” Amber explained. Razors eyes darted from Ambers to Lumines and he resigned himself back to his half-eaten steak.
Amber rolled her eyes and turned back to Lumine, “It’s not his real name, no one even knows his real name.”
“Childe is an awful nickname,” She whispered back to her friend.
“He’s mean, and evil, once he has you in his sights there's no stopping it.” Amber warned her.
“What about his friends? Don’t they say something?” She asked.
“They are rich, us poor folk don’t matter to them even if they act cordial towards us,” Amber told her as she leaned back, “Besides you don’t have a vision, he will probably just ignore you.”
Lumine widened her eyes, “well...” She felt a tint come to her cheeks, “Actually...”
Amber slammed her fists on the table, “NO WAY! YOUR THAT GIRL!” she screamed. Drawing the attention of half the students.
“Show us!” Barbara insisted.
“Ah, I don’t think now is the best time.” Lumine tried to quell her friend's voices but both girls were oblivious to the attention they were attracting. She glanced over at the red head she was warned about to make sure he was still entranced at whatever activity he had chosen.
“Awh comon I wanna see!” Amber whined.
“First anemo user in history without a vision! Don’t hold out on us!” Barbara added.
“Fine! Just stop yelling at me,” Lumine finally conceded. She put her palm face up on the table and gathered a small amount of wind to it. It tinted green with her power as it swirled into a miniature tornado in her palm.
“This is so cool!” Amber gasped.
“It's the same as anyone else,” Lumine said, closing her hand to cease the wind. She was more than a bit tired of people going ballistic over her powers.
“Let's get back to the dorms,” Amber suggested, “We have much to talk about,” She smiled gleefully. Razor whimpered next to her, “fine you can come too,” She sighed. Razor looked up with a beaming smile.
“Boys are allowed in the girls dorms?” Lumine asked as they gathered their trays and bags.
“Only until eight with a strict open-door policy,” Barbara told her.
She hummed in response as the group made their way over to the trash bins. Eyes were on her now, some searching for a vision trinket she didn’t possess. She was the last one out the door when a chill tingled down her spin. She grabbed the back of her neck and turned, expecting a cryo user to be standing there with a smirk on their face.
Instead, she was greeted with sea blue eyes cutting through the crowd. He smirked when they made eye contact. The chill went down her entire body. She glared as the door to the building swung shut, cutting them off.
Shit.

Fire Flower
Pairing: Amber/Razor with hints of others.
Summary:
Razor is convinced by none other than Amber to assimilate into human life after leaving his pack. She just didn’t expect him to have changed so much in the months after their last meeting.
“What are you doing in my house!”
“I missed your smell.”
“Razor!”
Crack ship where Razor gets a growth spurt and is confused about it. Diluc tries to help him. Kaeya tries his best to undo that help. And Amber tries to teach Razor boundaries with little success.
Chapters: 9/?
Chapter one:
Razor can do many things other humans can't being raised by wolves. Surviving in the wild alone isn’t an easy feat if you were raised in the city. And he likes to think his fighting skills challenge even the best of the Favonius knights. Even if the castle guards like to call it “wild" or “animalistic".
But there are some things he lacks being raised in the wild. Things not even Lupus Boreas could answer when he asked. The god even told him to stop asking human questions after the last set.
It started the day he met that girl in red. Not the child he now knew as “Klee" but the older girl. Hes tried hard to remember her name, but it escapes him even at night as he lays under the stars. Normally they offer some form of guidance, but now they stay stubbornly silent.
He can still remember the scent rolling off her and into his sensitive nose. Spicy, maybe clove or cinnamon with a hint of fire flower. He could tell it was natural, just the way she smelled. It didn’t burn like some of the girls, and even guys, that lived in the surrounding villages. He does his best to stay away from them for that reason.
No, this girl smells different. In a good way. It reminds him of cold nights by the fire right before his pack would migrate to warmer lands for winter. Or that one time someone gave him a strange warm concoction they called “coco" that warmed his belly as he drank. Leaving him craving for more once the cup was empty in his hands.
She vanished as fast as they met. Tying up loose ends and making sure his name was clear. Something he didn’t even thank her for. In fact, she didn’t seem all too pleased with him the last time they spoke.
That was during the height of the heat. He thought as time passed she would vanish from his memory.
But as the land transitioned from summer to the chill start of winter that girl and her scent never completely left his mind. Her wide, curious, slightly accusing eyes staring him down in his sleep.
Living alone without a pack now only increased his troubling thoughts. Lupus was right, hes human and not a wolf. When his pack began traveling west to avoid the harsh winter, he left them. And the lack of emotion they showed at his loss confirmed what he needed to know.
He took up residence in a small cave along one of the ravine walls in Wolvendom after taking one glace at the massive city where most of the “humans" lived. He may not be a wolf, but he wasn’t sure if he was a human either, and the thought of assimilating into any human encampment makes his insides feel as if they were on his outsides.
By the time winter was closing its icy jaws across the kingdom his cave was outfitted with what he thought he needed for the season. Even Lupus , the only wolf that would still speak with him, warned him of the harsh conditions.
He took extra precautions. Stacking wood in the back corner until it hit the ceiling. Making a proper fire pit with a cooking pot he snatched from a Hilichurls camp. And a bed made of straw he took from a traveling cart on the roads.
But as the days drew on he found it harder to stay warm during the night. Even with a full fire next to him.
His naivety lead to danger. A storm settled in while he slept. He had even heard some of the travelers talking about it earlier today as they rushed back to the villages earlier than normal. The word “storm” to him didn’t mean much. He assumed it would rain and gust over the mountain, not snow. Snow was not something had ever needed to worry about. He didn’t even know it existed.
Fear actually seeped into his consciousness as he sat huddled by a fire staring at the entrance to his shallow home. The flakes coming down so heavy he couldn’t see the tree on the other side of the ravine.
He never thought of death before this moment. But as he lost the feeling in his limbs that’s all that was on his mind.
He chuckled to himself as he shivered. Teeth chattering together painfully.
Perhaps this was a fitting end for a naive wolf boy. At least he wouldn’t have to suffer through his intrusive thoughts about that girl anymore.
-
“You are not going out in this storm.”
Jean crossed her arms as she stared down at one of the youngest members of the knights. To her dismay Amber had been taking the reports of Razor, the young boy around her age, having stayed in area for winter very, very, seriously.
“He wont survive this!” Amber half yelled at her superior as she clenched her fists to her side.
“And neither will you,” Jean argued back. Amber looked at the floor in defeat. If there was one trait Jean wasn’t, it was indecisive. Once she had her mind set on what she thought was the right decision it stayed there. Arguing her pryo talents would be useless against it. A pryo can still get lost in white out snow. And a pryo can still get tired and lose their flame.
“Look,” Jean sighed, “the knights appreciate your efforts to keep all of Mondstadt safe. But this boy isn’t even a resident of our city.”
Amber swallowed, looking back up at her boss with new determination. “I know, but he still needs help. I can still hear that wolf god telling him to go back with the humans. It might be why he didn’t follow his pack this year. Jean, we can't abandon someone that needs help! It's our job to help people!”
“I still cannot condone one of my knights risking her life. The boys been on his own since he was a child, I’m sure he will be fine.”
“Bu-"
Jean raised her hand, stopping the second emotional outpour.
“my decision is final.”
-
Clove and cinnamon. It sliced its way through the icy air and into Razors nose. Waking him from a cold dazed state.
He was up in seconds. Moving his freezing body to the cave entrance and staring out into the white haze in search of its owner.
Why would she be out in this?
“There you are!” the girl from his dreams popped into view. He looked down, more than he remembered he had too, and into her eyes
"You?” he mumbled. Unable to move his frozen lips.
Why did she seem so short? Did he get taller? Or maybe she got shorter?
“You’re freezing! Get inside,” she pushed him back into his cave. He gave little protest and walked back to his mound of straw to wait for his inevitable freezing to death.
She looked the same as before only with a long winter coat. And she seemed suspiciously shorter.
She unbuttoned her warm covering, revealing the outfit he remembered her in, and tossed it on him then placed her hand over the fire as he protested. The flames reached and licked her fingertips. Warming the room by another few degrees.
“You’re a…” he trailed off, burying his frozen limbs into her fur coat as best he could. It was much too small for his frame.
“A pyro,” she smiled, “so don’t worry about me, Amber will never have any problems keeping warm.”
He sighed; how did he not notice it when he met her before. He was so focused on that strange traveler and trying to ignore, who he now knew as Ambers, scent.
Maybe all vision users smell like her. Although the traveler could use anemo and didn’t smell like anything.
“Alright mister what are you doing out in the cold like this?”
He looked up at her from his straw bed. Starting at her face then making his way down to her hips where two small hands were planted firmly on either side.
He shrugged, Unsure how to answer with his limited vocabulary, and tried to burying himself deeper in her knee length coat as the warmth faded from it. It smelled like her he noted as the fur brushed against her nose.
“I’ve gotten reports from all around Mondstadt saying you stuck around after the first frost, don’t you normally stay with your pack?” she asked.
“No more pack,” he mumbled into the fur. Cursing at how fast the warmth was leaving it. She knelt down next to him, on the other half of his hay bed.
“Is it because of what that wolf god said?” she asked. Dropping her assertive tone.
He nodded as he stared into the fire. Amazed how it stood as if she was still manipulating it.
“Hey,” she reached a hand to his shoulder. He almost groaned from the contact but held it in.
She's so warm. Are pryo users always this warm? He had so many questions.
“You’re freezing! Why didn’t you say anything?”
The panic in her voice made him uneasy. He didn’t like it, not coming from her.
Her hands darted to his, catching him off guard. If he wasn’t so cold he would have been able to move from her grasp before she could reach him.
“We need to warm you up and get back to Mondstadt,” she told him as she warmed both his hands in her own.
“No,” he shook his head.
“I can't leave you here.”
“Go,” he lifted his arm, her hand still on his, and pointed to the cave door.
“The winter only gets worse from here Razor. I can't leave you in here. It's not safe. I’m a pryo and can't be out here for long”
“Not a city human,” he tried his best to explain.
“Well, I don’t particularly like city living either,” she laughed. The city was crowded and didn’t always smell the best if she was being honest.
He took both her hands in his, “Go,” he said before pushing them to her own body.
She stewed in that position for a moment. Her eyes glued to her hands.
“You know,” she said in a low voice, “I know it won't be the same, but maybe the knights can be your new pack?”
She looked at him now. Locking eyes with this strange intense burning that Razor couldn’t place.
Razor broke first. Looking away and into the fire.
“Well, I’m not leaving until you come with me.” She crossed her arms and readjusted herself. Leaning her back against the cave wall and lining her legs up with his.
He inspected his leg against hers. They looked slender and gentle in comparison. Then to her foot, miniature next to his own.
Girls seemed so… small now. Especially this one.
He guessed Amber was close to his own age when they met. Despite her odd scent she didn’t carry that musty older smell people seemed to start producing with age.
“How old are you?” he asked. Always one to speak his mind.
Amber tilted her head.
“Eighteen, well almost nineteen. Why?”
“You look small,” he told her. Maybe she needed to eat more? He should bring her food so she can grow more. Otherwise she may get hurt like the smaller wolves in his pack did.
He reached for his burlap sack and started to dig through it.
“I wouldn’t classify myself as small, maybe on the sorter sid-"
He shoved a stolen loaf of bread in her face. She eyed it suspiciously.
“where did you get this loaf of bread?”
“A cart.”
“Razor I know you are wild but as a knight I cannot condone stea-"
He shoved the bread into her mouth.
“Small wolves get hurt.”
She grabbed the bread from his hand and removed it from her mouth.
“Razor I’m not small! Guys are just… bigger… most of the time.”
He took in her words slowly thinking them over.
Wolves came in all sizes but it was never dictated by gender. At least in his pack.
“Most?” he asked. Curious and slightly worried for her.
“Well, there are exceptions but usually yes. Men grow bigger than women.”
“I don’t like that,” he grumbled, crossing his arms and leaning back against the cave wall. If men were larger than how would she have a chance at defending herself? The larger wolves always ran the show. Surely humans are no different?
He turned his head and sniffed. Inching closer with each intake until he was barley brushing her neck. Oblivious to her mouth popping open and closed in shock or her cheeks turning a scarlet red.
She pushed him back by his forehead before he could dip lower. He allowed her but left his head in her hand. Staring up at her with his piercing and slightly uncomfortable gaze.
She was not mated. That much he knew. She would be drenched in another scent besides her own.
The information intrigued him. He himself had never given much thought to having a mate. But this girl seemed very… desirable… to him.
“Y-you can't just go sniffing people!” she yelled at him. He sat up, his forehead leaving her hand.
He took a few moments before moving closer again. This time to her face. He wanted to inspect it. Maybe there was some reason she hadn’t been claimed.
She stopped him with both her hands this time. One on each side of his face, squishing his cheeks together.
“We need to go over some boundaries with you mister,” she said with a nervous laugh.
He narrowed his eyes. Not at her words, but his inspection. This girl seemed flawless.
But then again, he didn’t know how she compared to other girls. He just knew he liked something about her.
Odd.
If he stayed here in this cave... his life for the foreseeable future would be freezing cold and silence.
He could protect her. She could be his new pack. Just like she offered.
“I’ll go,” he told her.
She beamed at him, letting out a contagious smile. It made one form on his own constricted face. He liked seeing her happy, he decided.
“Really? That’s great lets go!”

Changes (ShaneXOC)
Summary:
Coexisting with your childhood enemy in the same town for three years is easy. As long as you don’t lose your job and have to work on their farm.
Then it gets hard. Very Hard.

Chapter One
Shane threw his half open can of cola at the door. It pinged off the glass and splattered over his legs. He swore at the heavens in a futile attempt to contain his anger.
Of course, they would close and not tell anyone. Just stick a big fat yellow closed sign over the door and call it good. If he ever saw Morris again, he would punch him in the face. His eyes glared holes into the glass.
He contemplated beating it down out of frustration, but decided against it. He turned and began the long walk home. Crumpled uniform still under his arm, beer calling his name.
Winter air nipped at his calves as he made his way over the bridge. His mind thinking of what exactly to tell Marnie.
How in the hell would he afford rent?
It’s not like Marnie would kick him out. He thinks. But she sure would make his life hell until he started producing income again. She needed the money; it was the last reason on a long list why he moved.
He rounded the corner to Pierre’s, intent on looking at the billboard for solutions. Instead he caught sight of bright sunlight yellow hair. A color he always thought couldn’t grow naturally from someone’s head. She had it in pigtails today with a straw hat on and some overalls.
Harper, the Zuzu city girl in a straw hat and overalls.
He could feel the smirk form on his face out of habit. A few choice words floating by his thoughts. But they are not fourteen anymore. Far from it. So he forces his mouth into a scowl before she notices him.
“What are you looking at?” she glares up at him. A fire lighting in her eyes, a gaze he was all too familiar with. He looked back at her with contempt. Using his size to try and make her feel small. She didn't falter, arching her back and straitening her shoulders. He sneered, pissed off she no longer feared him. torturing her would have been a nice distraction today.
“I’m just here to look at the billboard,” his rough voice bit back, “now move and leave me alone.”
Instead of moving Harper ignored him. Turning back to the board to pin a notice of her own on it.
“Aren’t you supposed to be working?” she said as she stuck some tacks into the paper.
“Got the day off,” Shane muttered, “now move.”
She glanced down at the uniform balled under his arm, tilting her head.
“You’ve always been an asshole," she said and walked away.
He watched her retreating form walk off towards her farm. Wondering how he had never seen her in Zuzu city with that god-awful hair color.
They never got along. Even as kids.
Shane’s parents would ship him off to pelican town for a month every summer. His drunk of a father and drug addict mother didn’t want to deal with him outside of school. All the way up until he turned fifteen. When they figured they could kick him out of the house for most of the day and get away with it.
Some of his most vivid memories were with Harper. Calling Harper names, Pushing Harper down, stealing her toys, and as they got older it progressed into teasing and name calling. The normal shit kids do when they dont fancy each other. The relationship of hate between them went both ways. But being the only two kids in town for those summers they still saw each other every day, whether they wanted to or not.
Some of the other people in Pelican town thought of the continued squabble as childish. Others ignored it, Marnie especially.
He waited until she disappeared over the small hill leading to her farm before stepping up to the board. Praying that he would find something to get some cash to give to Marnie, maybe even some for his drink of choice.
he sifted through the notices, only finding odd jobs for a measly 100g. That wouldn’t even buy him a pint at the pub. The only one that offered any real promise of an income made his face beat red.
“Looking for help in the upcoming year on the farm! Pay starts at 1000g a week. Monday – Friday. -Harper”
