That really disrespectful post that basically blames Jonghyun’s family and friends for not taking his mental health seriously just popped up as a ‘recommended’ post for me and honestly, it’s really awful.

To make this very clear, when you’re depressed you aren’t thinking with a logical mind, often all the love and support in the world from friends and family can make no difference once you’ve already decided you don’t want to be here any more. Just a few years ago a member of my own family took his life, he was loved and supported, at the time he was living with his parents who did everything they could to make him feel safe and happy when he was with them, he even seemed to be doing better and then out of nowhere he was gone. Depression isn’t cured by the presence of love in a person’s life, most of the time when someone if depressed they’re not actually alone, they’re not unloved or unwanted, it’s a terrible illness that doesn’t take logic into account and that’s why it’s so dangerous.

Don’t blame Jonghyun’s friends and family. Don’t spread false information saying they didn’t care enough and didn’t try to help him. Don’t make this time any more difficult for them.

never in my life would i have imagined that i would wake up to frantic texts and messages saying that you were gone. kim jonghyun was someone incredibly special to me, someone whose voice made me feel things that no one else ever did. i remember when i was getting into shinee and there was something about him that just demanded all the attention. he was loud and goofy and a ray of sunshine that shined a light wherever he was. i remember watching hello first and being drawn to him and his voice, then the same when i watched replay. my first comeback was sherlock and i remember being enamoured with him and his voice. this man was incredible. i remember when blue night was announced and i made jokes that he finally got a job, and blue night became the most amazing outlet because we got to meet kim jonghyun. the soft spoken vocalist who loved his dog, candles, and bitterly joking about couples who called in. a jonghyun who loved music and finally had the chance to write and compose for others. i joked that all jonghyun had to do was say he wanted to work with someone and it would happen - from dean to tablo to lee hi to iu, he reached and touched so many people. he touched me. he was one of the reasons i loved shinee and his music. he changed kpop and the image that idols had as “untalented”. he spoke up for lgbt and mental health and politics and for idols. jonghyun was a beautiful soul and i was blessed to experience him and his music. thank you jonghyun, thank you for giving us so much of you and your gift, thank you for loving us, thank you for loving shinee, and thank you for holding on as long as you did. i hope you’ve found peace now. i love you.

Just like two days ago I was thinking of Shinee and how long it’s been since they did something together, and now that’ll never happen. 

As always when a famous person commits suicide you see people people being all “they seemed so happy”, that’s how it always is. People need to realise how good actors depressed people can be when we want to be. This is a big loss for not only Shawols, Shinee and his family but Kpop in general. He was such a good artist and person and he’ll be very missed. 

I don’t want to think about how many idols are depressed that we don’t know about but you know that’s a pretty big number. How many of those look up to Jonghyun, probably most of them. I hope the rest of Shinee aren’t taking this too hard or beating themselves up for it. How many idols have to attempt or commit suicide before Korea wakes up and starts talking about it? 

I’ve been crying for a solid hour now and I don’t really feel much it’s just tears. My body knows I should be very sad so it cries but I feel nothing. 

Stay strong Shawols, he wouldn’t want you to go down the same path.

going to comfort a crying key during shinee’s concert at tokyo dome, but ending up crying himself (early 2015)

speaking playfully with a male listener on blue night radio (may 2015)

mentioning his gratitude for fans and listeners in creating a safe space with blue night radio (july 2015)

discussing his conversation with taemin about “gender roles, prejudices and negative views about artists, etc.” when writing pretty boy for taemin ft. kai on blue night radio  (aug 2015)

personally supporting radio guest baek young ok on blue night radio in her efforts to bring sanitary pads to low-income girls (mar 2017)

there are so many more moments to include but i wanted to hold onto these for sure. jonghyun, you were a celebrity like no other. i cant imagine a world without you. i wish you’d gotten to known how many hearts and minds you touched with your voice, your songwriting, and just by being yourself.
