I have just received this book "A Slow Death: 83 Days of Radiation Sickness" about Hisashi Oushi who survived 83 days after having been exposed to radiation in the worst workplace accident ever in Tokaimura, Japan. It's a plant that processes uranium and in the accident, which was critical, 3 workers were exposed to the radiation. Oushi was the one of the 3 who took the most radiation and he actually died immediately within passing away. The chromosome inside all the cells in his body was destroyed and, as the cells in his body died there were no fresh cells to replace them because he had lost the ability to create new cells because of the destruction of his chromosomes. The doctors did all what they could to try to save his life and at the end they went bey what Oushi himself wanted. He wanted to be allowed to die but his relatives wanted the doctors to continue their efforts. Because this level of radiation sickness is rarely seen if ever the doctors' treatments started to look like experimental treatments and they kind of forgot that Oushi was suffering immensely. At last the relatives of him gave their permission to let him pass away, which he did after having spent 83 days in hell being so extremely sick from radiation sickness. I look forward to read it. I was inspired to buy this book by a video on YouTube made by Mr Ballen, @johnballen416 who in his video told the story of Oushi and the accident and how it destroyed all the chromosomes in his body. He called Oushi a walking ghost because he actually was a dead person while he still looked like a normal person with a normal life ahead of him. Sand figures on the pedestrian street Kongensgade in my town. One is the old water tower that now is the main landmark for the town and the other is a group of seals. Right now I'm working on a bunch of lilies for a lady who contacted me and asked me if I was interested in buying a box of very thin crocheting yarn that she has had in her storage for a while. I asked her for the price and she gave me a very good offer and I immediately took it, thanked her and paid her the money. Her daughter and son-in-law live in the same town as I so we will have an arrangement where I go to their place to pick up the box of yarn. Because she was so kind to offer me this big lot of yarn, which usually is quite expensive, for such a low amount of money I will give her a small miniature bunch of lilies that are her favorite kind of flowers. I have made lilies before, both calla lilies and stargazer lilies so I know what I'm up to. Each lily has 6 petals arranged with 3 upper petals and 3 lower petals and they are different from each other. And each lily has 6 quite long stamens and 1 even longer stigma. Creating these requires pieces of yarn that I dip into paint and let it dry and then I pour them into a lot of glue and twist them together into what becomes the stem. The petals are also dipped in glue and dried and then each petal can be moved into position and kept there. The final touch up will be painting the petals with stripes and/or spots so the flower will appear to be as lifelike as possible. For a bunch at least 3 flowers will do but 5 flowers will be a good number that makes the bunch look good. Under 10 any uneven number is the optimal so if the flowers are easy to create then the more the better. But lilies are very work intensive so 5 lilies in a pink color scheme and with some green leaves put in between will be a decent number and will look good. A crocheted bumblebee made for Sam @bugrealms. All is crocheted with DMC Special Dentelle 80 yarn and a 0.75 mm crochet needle. The frame of the wings are made with metal thread that I have crocheted over. I bought the pattern for this bumblebee and but I have made changes where it was appropriate for miniature crochet. A crocheted replica of a male Lucanus Cervus, an European stag beetle, made for Sam @bugrealms Everything is crocheted using a pattern that I have downloaded (from Ravelry I think). The design is very good with intricate details like the white inner wings, the shape of the mandibles and the legs. I have glued a tiny magnet on the belly of it so it can be placed on e.g. the frame of the shelves where Sam keeps his terrariums. A crocheted beetle made for Sam @bugrealms. I don't know if it's a replica of a certain specie or if it's a fantasy beetle. I think it resembles a scarab beetle but since I don't know anything about beetles I can't say for sure if it's a scarab or not. I have crocheted the wings using two different kinds of yarn, a beautiful green cotton yarn and a very shiny blue viscose yarn. The mix of yarns gives it a beautiful green-blue color. I have stitched some dots using a multicolored shiny effect yarn that shines in the light but the camera can't pick up the shimmer. The eyes are clusters of tiny black beads. And the head has been crocheted with woolen yarn to give it a slightly fuzzy appearance. The antennas and the legs are made with thin metal thread that I have wrapped black cotton yarn around and fixed with clear nail polish. My first bug, a praying mantis, is now finished. It turned out to be just as good as I had imagined it to be. Again, it is made for Sam @bugrealms. I have glued magnets on two of the feet diagonally so it should be easy to place. I couldn't glue a magnet on the underside of the abdomen as I have done on the tarantulas because the legs are so long that the abdomen never would touch the ground. I have made a replica of a Brachypelma Hamorii as a gift for Amy at @petrock_nroll. Her Brachypelma Hamorii, which has a very special name that I can't remember and that I'm sure there's a story behind, is her Pride and Joy, or one of them. She recently has paired her and she has created a video about it where she tells the story of how she found the mature male and she shows the very subtle ways the male and the female communicated with each other, even they were placed in each their enclosures but standing next to each other. The pairing itself was perfect and a match made in Heaven. It all was as told in fairytales. I highly recommend everyone who read this to go to YouTube and watch Amy's video! The replica comes with its very own crichet and they both have a magnet glued on the undersides so they can be placed on whatever metal that Amy wants them to sit on. This is a crocheted replica of a Psalmopoeus Cambridgei made for @marks_tarantulas It is in my opinion one of the best of the replicas that I have made. The intricate details on the else quite bland tarantula are made with thin thread stitched on the various parts of the body. Here are crocheted replicas of 8 spotted crab spiders, Platythomisus octomaculatus, as a juvenile and a mature. They are made for @marks_tarantulas who recently has acquired one. It's a juvenile and the coloration is more light but hopefully it will grow and become a mature spider showing the beautiful coloration. The replicas are connected to the flower with magnets that I have sewed in on two of leaves. The flower has been glued on an ordinary fridge magnet where I have used tiny super magnets for the replicas and inside the leaves because they are strong enough to be able to connect with each other even there's a layer of crocheted yarn between them.
