Interviewer: It's a big commitment to make [being vegan straightedge], especially for a young man. Is it the structure that helps or do you have personal morals and things that pick the lifestyle for you?

Andy: I think both. I'm someone who has an addictive personality and I think addiction has been in my family. I have an uncle who is an alcoholic. So for me it's, like, all or nothing. I'm straightedge because I'm all or nothing. Veganism is all or nothing. CrossFit is all or nothing. I just knew if I didn't do that I'd probably be dead. I used to smoke pot and drink which caused a lot of friction with my mum, who's the only person I had. So that made it difficult and I realised what I was putting her through.
