a normal distro is like buying a meal from a supermarket and heating it up arch is like buying the ingredients and making the meal gentoo is planting the forest, growing the ingredients, and making the meal and LFS is forging the knife you cut with, the pan you cook with, creating fire, making the world, you are god

My brother wants to use Arch by the way. I have failed as a sibling. I still have hope for my Opa though. >:)
They all would have gone to Linux anyway. Now to convince my gf to make the switch. \(TeT)/

I thought I would look into trying to have my mouse on Linux look like the one I used to use on Windows. It can't be that hard to set it up, right?

If you've used Android, you've used Linux in a way. Linux often just means custom OS. If you can avoid it, try not to overthink the choice. Most distros or flavours of Linux that can run on a PC can be customised to act and look like one another, so the starting point isn't the most important part. If you're looking into another device, the options are often far more limited.
For how to use it, the common advice is to try and boot off a USB first. I would recommend that if you do want to run Linux on a PC, to try dual booting first instead of jumping fully in. That basically means when your PC starts, you can pick to use, I'm guessing Windows, or your choice of Linux.
I'm biased for what Linux distro I would recommend, but I highly encourage people to give Linux a try. You can make it however you want, want to have it look and feel like windows for some reason, sure! Anime characters everywhere, go for it! You can have whatever aesthetic or theme you have the willpower to create. Don't be so afraid to mess up that you avoid trying. The best way to learn how to do something right is to do it wrong as many times as you need to before it all clicks into place.
okay guys, so what exactly is linux and how do u use it?

Being able to customise anything I want and rename stuff at will on my PC has me so excited for when I move out and can finally update some legal documents. Where I am, with minimal regulations, you can put the sex on your birth certificate as whatever you want. >:)

ANNOUNCEMENT
Just hear me out You can do whatever you want to. I'm not talking about free will, I'm not talking about universe altering religion. I'm just talking about right now. This is what Linux is kinda all about. If you're struggling with the idea that you want to switch off Windows (Or the fruit) and use Linux instead, just remember that you can do it. Any way you want! Want to do a Virtual Machine to test it out before installing? Go for it! Unsure the distro you picked is a good one? Get a second one and compare the two! Think that one (distribution)-official tumblr account is a little annoying and stupid? Don't listen to them! But this goes for more than just Linux as well. You should always keep in mind that, no matter the outcome, every decision is yours to make in the end. You are the only one who makes up you. Regrets are normal, but just like Linux you can always, always as for help, try out different options, and in the end decide on whats best for you. There are a lot of scary people out there, sure, but they can't make your life decisions. "Oh the government is illegalizing transitions!" So transition anyway. The government can go suck an egg. pun intended. Things will always be scary, but you are so much more powerful than anything you could ever dream of. You are doing your best, and I hope you will continue to do your best.

Unfair match up, smh./j
As much as I love the joke, if Hannah Montana Linux wins it dose kind of throw the entire system off. Eather we all agree to vote silly in ALL of them or we take them ALL seriously.
I get that most of us haven't used all of these distrows so it's fun to just vote at random but if there isn't consitancy it's not a fair fight. We can have a silly fight we don't take seriously but at least keep it consitant.

I feel like Linuxposting. Let's Linuxpost.
Aka. Lemme just shill for Linux Mint for like a solid paragraphs because I need to scream.
I use Windows for uni (have to use Power BI Desktop for one class), but at the start of the semester, my Monday class teacher would ask us "do you use Windows or are you happy?"
This was a little jab since he's a Mac user. At the time I had my Ubuntu dualboot system. Picked it since I had worked with it before, wasn't the Greatest fan (it would behave weirdly and just close programs due to "memory usage" when I Know it shouldn't be acting like that)
Thing is, my Linux partition is tiny. Attempts at shrinking my Windows were. Not good. Eventually I accidentally broke my Ubuntu install by trying to remove packages I shouldn't.
Reinstalled it, realized it didn't spark joy. Found Linux Mint, switched over.
If I could, I'd nuke my Windows install. It's Just That Nice.
I can customize the FUCK out of it. System font. Icons. Made up filetypes just because. Desklets. Applets.
Felt like "my system" instead of "the system I own".
Originally had a Linux system purely to write fic. LibreOffice felt a lot more freeing compared to Word. Hell, I realized I refused to swear on my fics because it felt like I was being judged. Most of my AO3 fics (barring the very first one) were written in LibreOffice.
Only issue I had was the Burn my Windows extension (and another that made the windows all wobbly) won't make Cinnamon launch properly. Wonder why.
No biggie if y'all have to use Windows as well for X and Y reasons, but whenever I see the GRUB menu, I just ask myself: "am I gonna use Windows, or am I gonna be happy?"

Got reminded again today why I don't interact more with dev communities—checked the Discord server for an add-on I use 'cause something broke today, and quickly got hit with "bro jumped on the defense" "senpai is getting angy" "ok snowflake".
Man do I wish the two choices for software weren't "run by faceless corporations out to screw you over any way they can" and "run by actual children who think upsetting people for no reason is funny".
