RMIT Media Student Melissa White’s Ghoda Naatch (Horse Dance) moves in Delhi Haat!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“During our last day in Delhi, some of us made a last minute trip to Dilli Hat. During one very particular shopping experience I was dazzled by a wonderfully colourful puppet stall (that also sells those cloth elephants you see at other stalls). The shop owner welcomed me to join him by wearing this red horse puppet suit as he played his drum (this is a traditional dance form called Ghoda Naatch/Horse Dance from the Northern part of India)!
So, I twirled around and around laughing. As you do!”

RMIT Media Students’ Documentary Project with one of India’s Leading NGO - PRAYAS - A Humanitarian, Gender-Sensitive and Child-focused Development Organization!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
India trip was not only about Bollywood celebs, but also real life heroes...
The #RMITDelhiDocumentaryFieldTrip2016 saw the students working with NGO Prayas...they are making a short documentary on what #Prayas is all about.Prayas is the brainchild of Mr #AmodKanth (Former DGP & Chairperson - Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR))
"Prayas essentially believes that needs and rights of children are synonymous. These rights of marginalized children can get further accomplished only through empowerment and capacity building of their families and communities. This empowerment process is an inclusive strategy of socio-economic transformation of the marginalized. Hence, Prayas strongly promotes livelihood along with package of integrated programmes for marginalized children, youth and women". http://www.prayaschildren.orgIf anyone is interested in helping/supporting Prayas for its work for the marginalised children then do log on to their website... they need your support! http://www.prayaschildren.org

Bollywood Field Trip: Nina Judith a Bachelor of Photography student shares her experience of doing a photo project in the Villages near Karjat!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Monday morning the photography wing embarked on a trip to Habitat for Humanity, to document the work of the organisation and gain a little more perspective on India, a small sect of the extensive, varying rural conditions of the land that is blowing our minds. Habitat for Humanity is a growing NGO that works to empower families in villages affected badly the monsoon season which comes to wash away their homes and rice crops, their shelter and only livelihood. By working with the people one on one, Habitat for humanity designs durable homes for families in dire need. The mud and bricks are sourced within the communities then constructed by local stone masons. By enabling the family to design what structure would suit their needs, it is steadfast in providing sustainable solutions with so many visible positive effects. What Habitat from Humanity wanted from us was rather ambiguous in the beginning so we decided to shoot a short doco style account of their work and show how the sanctuaries they provide both assist and relieve people in their day to day activities. When we arrived it was all of us jumping into a role doing whatever we could to assist this amazing organisation and the people we were meeting. Between the mixed media recording we all shot the different village locations, constantly tantalized by the way of living, school children singing, landscape and wild colours. Once again, I think we all underestimated the power of this trip, not knowing what we were in for when we journeyed out of the smog at sunrise. Discussing the journey as a group we were all so moved by the stories, people, their worlds apart way of life and especially the singing in the classroom! So looking forward to putting our work together and creating a piece to shed light on the vision of Habitat for Humanity. Here are a few quick snaps of our day.

Bollywood Field Trip: Student Kaitlin Isham’s experience of Day 3 in Mumbai!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Day three in Mumbai! We started the day off with a spiritual temple visit. Then headed to the set of Indias longest running show C.I.D. There they fed us an amazing home cooked lunch! And we hit the town like locals and had some authentic Mumbai street food! Lastly I was dying for a neck massage and was told any hair cut parlour would do it for me as the Thai massage places were so expensive. It was the best neck massage I've ever had and only 2 dollars Australian!
