about time I break my silence on the weird hiatus I've been on.
I've been working on a lot of school and job related things and frankly have been neglecting ALL of my social media as a result of that.
I will be going back to university in the fall to continue my BFA in drawing, but I'm attempting to diversify my media.
Expect posts in the future.
I'm not going to say where or when, just expect them.
After all, good things come to those who wait or something like that.
Cheers.

what do you hate most about ALW's phantom of the opera? what do you think about the songs?
I've said before, but I don't actually *hate* it, I do watch it from time to time despite the things I dislike about it. To be quite honest I'm more likely to be critical of things that have potential or that I enjoyed but found disappointing. The songs are hit and miss, I think some of them are good and don't really care for the rest. And that's kind of where I sit with ALW's Phantom, I like the set, the costumes, the directing and even some of the songs but as a whole I can't help but feel disappointed. As best I can sum it up It feels a bit like a concept album that got turned into a play. Some of the plot beats feel like they could have used more fleshing out and the characters are a bit two dimensional. They cut the Daroga and gave his role more or less to Madame Giry and it really doesn't work. I also have zero respect for an adaptation that expects the source material to do the leg work when it comes to story telling. I know that's a matter of opinion but I feel that an adaptation needs to be able to stand on it's own feet and there are quite a few instances where ALW is banking on his audience being familiar with the story already. This play feels very much like it was made for people who are fans of the story to begin with and aren't going to be fussy if some of the details are fudged or rushed through. For Example: Erik has a punjab lasso but we never really know why that's his weapon of choice because his backstory is so glossed over. If you read the book you know what that was all about, that he worked as an assassin and that rope was his main method of execution. That he built torture chambers. That he knows so much about the Paris Opera and feels entitled to box 5 because he helped build it. Also if Madame Giry knows so much about the opera ghost and the identity of Christine's teacher why doesn't she do more to protect this girl? Why did she let Christine go on thinking it was an Angel of Music? I don't know, I come away from it feeling like Giry allowed the deception to continue but don't understand what her motivation was for covering for the Phantom. I also don't like the song placement for the big title number. Christine is sings about how Erik is the Phantom of the Opera BEFORE she takes off his mask. The whole scene in the lair doesn't make much sense if you think about it for two seconds. In she book she kind of picks up that he's the Phantom right away but in the book he also violently kidnapped her and chloroformed her. In the musical he seduces her with his voice and offers her his hand, which she willingly takes. No struggle, no objection. No reason for the audience to think that she doesn't believe this isn't her Angel of Music. Her "Angel of Music" hypnotizes her and takes her down to his lair, she sings a weirdly out of place rock number about how the Phantom of the Opera is inside of her mind. Then she wakes up and she suddenly has no idea who the man in the boat was. Christine, honey, you literally referred to him as "The Phantom of The Opera," and why are you not more freaked out about being underground with him. She unmasks him, he tells her she can't ever be free, she gives the mask back he suddenly goes "Come we must return, those two fools who run my theater will be missing you," it's a very quick scene and I find it hard to believe she was down there for more than a day but everyone is freaking out about how long she's been gone and all of these notes they've been getting. If you've read the book you don't really think about it much because it ticks the emotional boxes well enough and your knowledge of the story kind of fills in those blanks for you but I've always really hated the first lair and the unmasking sequence in the musical because it's not paced well and sequentially it makes no sense. And YET. I can't fully break up with it because there is JUST ENOUGH that I find likeable about it that I revisit it every now and then.
#SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE UNDER THE TRAP DOOR#I agree with so much of this and then also have my own gripes#like the whole... Stockholm syndrome identity theft shinanigans#also the complete erasure of the only non-white character#not to mention the entire#“the phantom is ALW's self insert” thing#Oh and the fact that alw cheated on his wife with the ORIGINAL CHRISTINE#Oh god I could say so fucking much

Hello 👋,
I hope this message finds you well. My name is Aziz, and I’m reaching out with a heartfelt plea to help my family find safety and reunite with our mother. 😞
The ongoing war in Gaza has torn my family apart. My mother and newborn sister are stranded in Egypt, while I, along with the rest of my sex family members, am trapped in the midst of the genocide in Gaza. We have not only been separated but have also lost our home and are enduring unimaginable hardships. 💔
Your support can make a difference. Whether by reading our story, donating, or sharing our campaign with others, you can help us reunite, find safety, and start anew. 🙏🕊
Thank you, from the depths of my heart, for your kindness, compassion, and solidarity during this difficult time. ❤🍉

I'm doing like bare minimum for like fandom engagement bc like this blog is afloat somehow on this rotten hell site. I enjoy seeing people's art and interpretations of different things but really I'm just sitting on the sidelines not saying much bc I don't have a lot of energy to get involved w petty fandom drama anymore lol. There's a lot going on rn and I'm just trying to keep myself afloat by just scrolling for a bit and not really "engaging" with anything bc its tiring to witness everything lololololol yeah thats all back to lurking k <3

Compiled some basic information I know about drawing fat characters for beginners since I've been seeing more talk about absence of really basic traits in a lot of art lately.

I was watching the snow outside and thinking of Palestine
If you lived here you'd see the pretty blues of snow and wintry skies The trees frosted and bare asleep, waiting for the new morning of a sun-dappled spring. If I were there my children wouldn't play in snow but in ashes, if they'd be playing at all Thousands in need of parental care Of loved ones destroyed The feeling of not being enough Amplified thousandfold. My home is shrouded in peace and quiet In gratitude I hold my children close, in desperate love. In a country advertising with Santa Claus The happiest place in the world Funding the genocide of families like ours. If you were here They'd probably be still alive. My children gone because of bombs or lack of insuline, And a world watching in silence as humanity is discarded as economically unviable.

Don't you ever forget the Palestinian artists and poets in Gaza that were murdered by Israel. Dreams of opening art galleries and sharing poetry, years of endless practice and growing passion. They loved life and they loved art, despite being born under occupation and apartheid they were never going to give up what they loved. In fact, they resisted through it every moment of their lives.
The art teachers. The poets. The girl who wanted to become a theater star. The teenage boy who loved to draw his favorite characters. Not vague or faceless, not numbers, each one was a soul with memories and passion and dreams. Each soul was an entire universe extinguished.

This excellent visual representation of that old scam, “trickle down economics”, has been all over Twitter recently.
