this entire sequence i canttt it was so cute the way kou js took mitsubas hand and mitsuba’s face was js DD: oh god they’re the cutest ever i can’t (*ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈)

There's no way Tanaka isn't Iori Kurebayashi like c'mon now:

1) He obviously knows the elders of the villages. This is exactly how nosy, old people close to your family talk about you when they watched you grow up and don't like the decisions you've made. Plus Tanaka talks about the townsfolk in a way more familiar fashion than someone who's just there on business.

2) He and Rie have the same eyes, which MMR only does when characters are related.

3) This is more of a joke than a direct reason but my immediate reaction to both of these scenes was, "What was their plan for when this went wrong and they had a teenage boy's dead body on their hands?"

4) Tanaka is apparently a stupidly popular name (a bunch of sites I looked at when looking up the meaning of the kanji specify that it's the 4th or 5th most common surname in Japan). And the kanji Tanaka uses (田中) is also the most popular spelling. This site compares it to 'Smith' in English, which is kinda funny because if he is Iori Kurebayashi it means he just picked a super common name to go by.

5) I skimmed the manga to find the pages Tanaka made appearances in and it looks like this is the first time anyone in the manga (or at least in this translation) has said his name:

Which, it being in quotes, leads one to believe that either Takeda doesn't believe that's his name or he knew him by another name before hand.

So, like... what I'm saying here is Tanaka 100% lost his sight because of the thing Rie let into their house when he was a kid. This is why he knows about the supernatural and also why he is clearly estranged from her.
