sometimes the story isn’t about how much time passes—it’s about how much weight time carries. A five-minute argument can feel like an eternity. A decade can dissolve in a sentence. Don’t measure your pacing in clocks; measure it in heartbeats. Let the hourglass spill sand sideways if the moment demands it.

"Director Phoebe Kemp said in a statement: “Twelfth Night already toys with gender and performance – it feels like Shakespeare wrote it for us. This reading is about joy, solidarity and showing what’s possible when trans and nonbinary artists are at the centre of the story.”"

Writers when it's time to write the story no one forced them to come up with in the first place 🙄

i sit down to write and suddenly i am the most distracted human alive. the chair is uncomfortable. my coffee is too hot. my playlist isn't quite the vibe. i need to research what victorian houses smelled like in 1872 for exactly 45 minutes even though my story takes place in space. and yet the moment i'm trying to fall asleep? every single sentence i've ever needed just lines up perfectly in my brain like some kind of creative parade i'll never get back.

i get so happy when people that are new to fanfic writing, or just writing in general, post their work on ao3. despite their doubts, despite their fear of something so personal and vulnerable being perceived, they still press that button, and i turn into the equivalent to a proud mom cheering on the sidelines. like yes! you did that! your work is worth seeing! you deserve to share your passion for and be part of a community! i’m so proud of you!

it's kind of crazy climate change has occurred at such a remarkable pace that I and everyone else around my age can remember a completely different climate in our childhoods. I truly watched winter gradually disappear in my life.

Introducing the Writer Kinks:
1. The comma (,)
2. The semicolon (;)
3. The em dash (—)
4. The Overused italics
5. The Fragments (Because. Drama.)
6. THE ALL CAPS
7. The Ellipses (...)
Honorable Mentions: Long metaphors, parentheses (bonus thoughts) and repititions.
Because why write a concise sentence when you can string together 37 thoughts into one grammatical monstrosity.

The Compact - available now!

The compact has stood for ages, a secret between the royal families of the continent and the Verndari, who guard the pass. When the Verndari send to the Dovos to fulfill a little used clause of the compact - the request to supply a bride - the Dovos respond by sending not a daughter, but a son. In a land where ice and death are old friends, can the Verndari heir and the Dovos' black sheep find their way to keeping the peace, or will the alliance that has kept the world safe for centuries crumble around them?
Praise for The Compact
"As someone who has a hard time reading novels where the characters feel like finger puppets acting out what the author had in mind, it felt like this story BELONGED to the characters." - RK
"This book is so good and checks so many boxes. It really delves into the way internalized and external homophobia impact queer relationships and the ways we try to heal each other." - Mercede
Now available in Kindle, paperback, and hardcover!

I wish all my writers a happy new year. May all your stories finally be written, sentences be completed, emotions be evoked with beautifully crafted words, readers be moved to tears, the urge to create be satisfied.

Fanfic tiktok is wild... I see so many people saying shit like "I could never read anything below 60k!!", or "What story can you even tell in under 5k words?" or "A oneshot below 10k isn't even a story!" or "I always filter completed fics by 100k< only!"
And I'm like...
A) which fandoms are you reading fics for where you have this kind of offerings on the regular?
B) have you heard of short stories? If you truly think every story NEEDS to be longform to connect with people, I sincerely feel sorry for you.
C) Average novel length is between 50k to 100k. I'm sorry, but CONSISTENTLY demanding fic writers to push out fics of that length is insane. Just think about it: YOU DEMAND AUTHORS TO PUT OUT FICS THAT COMPARE TO COMMERCIAL NOVELS IN LENGTH (AND QUALITY) AS A BASELINE.
Yall are wilding.
