Plant of the Day
Tuesday 17 June 2025
Native to Chile, Peru and Argentina, Buddleja globosa (orange ball tree, Chilean orange ball tree, round-headed buddlea) is starting to flower in Stromness, Orkney, where it thrives. This shrub or small tree is a semi-evergreen, meaning that in a cold winter it will lose its leaves, but if the weather is mild the leaves will remain. The flowers are popular with pollinators.
