The Incoherent Feminist Pt.3
(Scroll down to read pt.1 and pt.2)
It’s 2017 but there are mothers who still encourage their daughters to take easy majors because they’ll be taking care of their husbands and kids anyways but make sure their sons are engineers, there are still brothers who make fun of their sisters who want to go into tech or become engineers, we still have individuals who are in denial of the existence of workplace discrimination or gender wage gap. 49.6% of the world population is women, that is almost half of the population of the world. Yet men occupy most of the position of power and prestige. This scenario is valid for the entire world.
"We say to girls, 'you can have ambition, but not too much. You should aim to be successful but not too successful."- Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
I want equal treatment and equal rights for all genders but I think for a second before I call myself a feminist. I am a feminist and I shouldn’t hesitate. It makes me furious when feminists don’t fight for missing indigenous women and when they equate oppression with piece of clothing. As feminists we should educate both men and women about mutual respect and fair treatment.
youtube
We can’t be feminists if we call out men for not being manly enough. We are all humans hence we have weaknesses. One thing is clear, in this fight for equality, men and women need to work hand in hand. The idea of gender superiority is an obstruction in the way of gaining equal rights for everyone.
youtube
I am proud feminist. I accept that everything in the world is a mixture of good and bad. Of course, there are radical feminists but there are feminists who are fighting for making the world a better place for everyone irrespective of their gender, race, sexuality and class. And I associate myself with the later. The world has come to a position where us feminists cannot afford to take a step back. We have immense resources to promote equality but that does not mean it has gotten any easier and that is why we have to strive harder.

The Incoherent Feminist Pt.2
Here’s a piece of my forever confused mind -
I am a feminist, person of color, a Muslim and I don’t need the westerners to save me.
I am a feminist and I am a muslimah who is proud of her religion.
I am a feminist and support anyone who use their agency wears hijab.
Tumblr media
I am a feminist and my some of my feminist idols are Hijabi and practicing Muslims.
I am a feminist and I condemn ethnocentric feminism.
I am a feminist and I believe anyone should be at the freedom to express their weakness irrespective of their gender.
I am a feminist and I admire feminine and elegant women who are the bosses of their own lives.
I am a feminist and I wear cute pink dresses because I want to.
I am feminist and I am equally empowered when I wear a dress, as I would be when I wear a power suit.
I am a feminist and I believe my modest fashion helps me have a positive body image.
I am a feminist and I believe both long haired and short haired women are queens.
I am a feminist and small pockets in women’s clothing restrict me. They are absurd and unrealistic. Period.
I am a feminist and I don’t get it when someone says I am an ex-feminist… Don’t rights of women matter anymore?
I am a feminist and I think feminists often leave indigenous women out of their concerns.
I am a feminist and I am tired of my friends joking that they are scared of me.
I am a feminist and I don’t mind asking a guy out but I prefer if guys are the first one to approach.
I am a feminist and I believe in the strength of our female bond
I am a feminist and I am proud of it.
I am a feminist and I think both men and women should be at the freedom to cry their hearts out.
I am a feminist and I think it’s important because every human deserves human rights.
I am a feminist but I hate it when someone tries to impose the ideals of a “strong, independent women” on me.
I am a feminist but I am not hesitant to ask my male friend to walk me home at night.
I am feminist and I am not ashamed to admit that I might be physically weaker than my male counterpart.
I am a feminist but I wish more men had chivalry.
I am feminist but I admire it when men hold the door for you; it is a kind gesture.
I am a feminist but I like to be both graceful and goofy.
I am a feminist but I think makeup is empowering.
I am a feminist but I loathe topless Jihadists. They are disrespectful of my culture community and my individual identity.
Why aren’t feminists fighting for missing indigenous women?
Why aren’t they building schools for girls?
Why aren’t they fighting for women who are discriminated in their workplace, school, beach, neighborhood or city for practicing their religion?
I am a feminist but I am embarrassed when put into the same category of ethnocentric white feminists who have a saviour mentality. All of us are different and don’t fit the same mold.
Tumblr media
I am feminist but I hate it when someone overuses the term“strong independent woman”.
I am a feminist but I am scared of other feminists who attack me for my different point of view.
I am a feminist but I acknowledge that not every feminist is accepting of ideologies that are not exactly similar to theirs.
I am a feminist but should we only fight for women’s right?...what about transgender people?
Tumblr media
Over the years I have evolved as a feminist. I built my own perspective if the world. Thanks to university courses, I learnt about intersectionality, ethnocentrism and cultural relativism. These concepts broadened my outlook. But I won't lie, they confuse me a lot! Should I voice my opinion and risk being criticized or should I integrate?

The Incoherent Feminist Pt.1
So you are a man hater? Most commonly asked question to a feminist.
Tumblr media
Growing up, I was very vocal about the core values of feminism but hardly ever identified as one. May be because I was scared of being a feminist since there are so many stigma around it, or may be because I didn’t know what being feminist meant. When I was younger, kids from my class would tease me calling a feminist and I would get mad! As if it was something bad. Even after coming to the university, my university friends joked—“don’t say anything in front of her, she is a feminist” or “Be careful! There is a feminist here.” Because of stigma and negativity, I am scared of the word feminist. But I am not a Feminazi, I am a...feminist.
Let’s be clear about this, Feminazis are radical feminists. They are pretty aggressive and can fit into the category of Man haters. But Feminists are the ones who fight for equal and fair treatment irrespective of one’s gender. In my opinion, more and more women are steering away from calling themselves a feminist because of the stereotypes surrounding feminists. Yes, there are feminists who are to some extent conceited and are not accepting of other worldviews. But we should not generalize feminists. Don’t be scared of me though, I am a feminist not a feminazi. It is very important that we understand that there are different types of feminists and different subjective views of feminism. Yes, there are some feminists who dislike the opposite gender, there are some feminists who have ethnocentric point of view i.e. judge or evaluate other cultures by considering their values or culture as the standard norm and then there are others who just want world peace and believe in intersectional feminism. If we don’t take intersectionality into consideration when fighting for someone’s right, we won’t be able to bring any considerable change or help him or her. So, what is intersectionality? It is the idea that different forms of oppression are interconnected and different people have different layers of oppression.
youtube
I am a feminist who believes in equity irrespective of someone’s gender, race and social background. I think everyone should be respected and provided with opportunity for the sole reason that they are human beings. I have engaged into countless debates on why women or any marginalized group are provided with quotas and men are not or why there are safe spaces for women but not for men. I have come to the realization that not everyone is blessed with time to explore the history of abuse of rights of women, people of color or people belonging to LGBTQ.
Tumblr media
It must be hard to notice all the injustice around us when wearing “The Privilege Sunglass”. If history was reversed and men or white people were the victims of systemic oppression and discriminated against because of their outwardly appearance, we would be fighting for their rights.
