Unfortunate mini-hiatus as I’m currently shadowbanned. I’ll be hiding out on discord (same username as here) in the meantime if anyone wants to chat there until I’m back up and running.

Okay, so I can see likes/comments but it doesn't look like it's letting me reply to comments? Is that a shadow ban thing? :x Update: I can't see my asks right now so I'm assuming shadowbanned. ;_; Thank you all for liking the post. This is a first for me so I'm really bummed out.
Testing something- please like/comment if you see this? My own comments are showing “may have been hidden, blocked, or removed” on stuff tonight and I’ve never seen that before?

Law had never been one to draw attention to his own birthday. Not since the fall of Flevance and the loss of the loved ones who had made the day such a special occasion in his childhood. In their absence, the memories of those first years brought the boy more pain than they did happiness, and so he'd tucked the date away in the back of his mind with those of his parents' and sister's birthdays, making a point to stay as busy as he could on each of them to keep the hurt at bay.
It hadn't even been until a few years into their voyage that he'd grudgingly shared the date with his crew, when they'd ventured to ask outright when they noticed that although their birthdays were always acknowledged with a nod and brief sentiment, the captain had never bothered to tell them when his was. He'd shared it with them - with the condition there were to be no surprise parties and gifts.
Of course as their journey had continued and they'd all grown closer, a few of the more outspoken Hearts had taken it upon themselves to twist those instructions to their own means - throwing celebrations they deemed just shy of parties and announcing their intentions to do so so they didn't count as surprises, either.
By this point in time, the date had become something of a crew holiday - a shared opportunity for all of them to relax and have a good time in their captain's honor. Law was okay with that. Even if it wasn't his favorite day in the year, it did him good to see his closest companions find joy in the occasion. That was the best gift anyone could give him on his birthday - and it was no different this year.
Nami may have pouted and rolled her eyes when he'd adamantly insisted on her not getting him anything, but the Surgeon of Death could not think of a single thing that would mean more to him than it did just to have her here with him, nestled close in his lap while their crew celebrated in their own way all around them.
And yet... he'd also spent enough time with Nami to know exactly how good she was at following orders she didn't particularly agree with. Especially his. So did it come as a surprise when she said she'd gotten him something anyway? Not particularly.
That didn't mean he wasn't going to give her a hard time for it. Hand freezing on the remnants of the first drink -which he'd already been reaching for anyway, thank you very much-, the pirate fixed Nami with a half-hearted attempt at a frown. "You're not supposed to have anything for me," he reminded her just as quietly.

Random Lines From My Notebook, Pt. 8 Feel free to tweak, modify, change pronouns or other words as needed, etc.

❝I’ll leave if you want me to.❞
❝I was starting to think you’d never come back.❞
❝You’re being reckless.❞
❝How much do you remember?❞
❝I’ve never done this before.❞
❝That is the worst bedtime story I’ve ever heard.❞
❝Before you say anything, it wasn’t my fault.❞
❝Oh, no.❞
❝See? I told you I had it under control.❞
❝Don’t look at me like that. You knew what you were getting yourself into.❞
❝I don’t know what’s happening to me.❞
❝What happened? I thought we were making progress!❞
❝Is it just me, or are they multiplying?❞
❝I think it’s safe to assume that neither of us wants word of what happened here today getting out to anyone.❞
❝I had this strange feeling that it was going to be a good day, but I didn’t expect this.❞
❝I’m starting to think you planned this.❞
❝I want to go home.❞
❝I think you should go.❞
❝Is it supposed to hurt this much?❞
❝You really could not have picked a worse time for this.❞
❝What do you think about getting out of here? We could leave this all behind and start over somewhere where nobody knows us.❞
❝ You’ve never been alone a day in your life.❞
❝ You can’t ignore this forever.❞
❝Did you ever even miss me at all?❞
❝I waited for you.❞
❝You know I didn’t mean it like that.❞
❝Will you say something, please? You’re starting to scare me.❞
❝You can read it, if you want.❞
❝What will you do now?❞
❝To tell the truth, I’ve never given much thought to what comes after.❞

“Can’t we just pretend it didn’t happen?” To Law.
Random Lines From My Notebook, Pt. 7 // accepting
In the rare moment of silence aboard the busy ship, Law's thoughts have drifted so far away he has to blink to clear his unfocused gaze before he can comfortably turn his head to glance at her.
He'd been vaguely aware of the archaeologist's presence on the deck behind him, but hadn't bothered to question what brought her up here while the rest of her crewmates sought their own entertainment elsewhere on the ship. Taking advantage of the quiet time to get some reading in, if he had to guess. Far be it from him to encroach on another's quiet time when he valued his own so much.
His thoughts began to wander once more when he'd accepted that she was there to stay. Fine with him. The Straw Hats as a whole were often overwhelming, but he'd always found Nico-ya's the most relatable among them. Her calm demeanor, introverted tendencies, and mutual interest in history made her far more welcome company than most of her rowdier crewmates.
All that aside, the question catches the Heart captain off guard. Perhaps it's just the distracted thoughts he hasn't entirely shaken out of his head yet, but a quick catalogue of every interaction he's had with her leaves him coming up blank. As far as he recalls, there's been nothing out of the ordinary in their exchanges - but he's never been particularly great with social cues.
"Not sure I know what it is I should be pretending about, Nico-ya. Care to remind me?" Then again, maybe not knowing what it is he's supposed to be forgetting is answer enough.

“Do you think you’ll ever forgive me?” (Law)
Random Lines From My Notebook, Pt. 7 // accepting
He's halfway to the door when Cora-san's voice rings out behind him, the words leaving him rooted to the spot in his reluctant retreat to bed for the evening. No matter how abysmal his sleeping patterns had become or how many years had passed since they'd last seen each other, that was one thing that still hadn't seemed to change: Law never could best his savior in a game of "who can stay awake the latest."
For a moment, Law thinks he must have heard him wrong. There's no way the man should have any reason to ask him what he thinks he's just heard, and yet... Rosinante hadn't stuttered. His words were straightforward and unwavering as they'd always been when he'd talked to his young companion.
It's only the slightest hint of uncertainty he picks up in the man's soft tone that makes Law realize, yes, he'd really just asked him what he thought he'd heard.
A frown mars the pirate's features as he turns back to face the man who saved his life. The stranger whose unexpected compassion had healed a boy who thought himself too broken to be fixed again - the father-figure who'd endeavored to pick what was left of him up off of the ground when he'd lost his first family and the only life he'd ever known. The friend who had given him both the means and the will to keep on living when all he wanted to do was curl up and slip away.
"There's not a single damn thing I can think I'd ever need to forgive you for, Cora-san," Law answers earnestly, grateful for the shadows his hat casts over his face as he takes a mental tally of everything Rosinante is directly responsible for giving him. His fingers curl into a fist at his side, digits flexing to distract himself from the sudden tightness he feels in his throat. "You gave me my life back when I didn't think there was anything left to live for. You saved me," he points out, feeling uncomfortably vulnerable giving voice to a thought that's driven him for thirteen long years. Twice as many as he'd ever expected to see.
And here's the man he owes it all to, asking Law if he can forgive him.
"I didn't think I'd ever get the chance to say thank you for that."

Law had known this was a pointless endeavor from the start.
It had taken the strange duo nearly two weeks to reach their destination - some small, well-off island Corazon had selected as their first stop on the journey to finding a cure for Law's Amber Lead Disease. A cure the child had spent each waking moment adamantly insisting they would not find.
With enough time, the part of Law that once dreamed of growing up and becoming a renowned doctor like his father believed a cure might have been found. But that part of him no longer existed. It had been left to rot and be forgotten with his family, his home, and all the dreams of a future that had never -would never- belong to him.
He hadn't been surprised when the man chose to ignore him. Law was sure he probably thought he was a whiny, petulant brat with no idea how the world around them really worked. He didn't care. Corazon had yet to give him a reason why he was bothering to drag him around like this in the first place, but given his insistence on pressing onward with his plan and lack of regard for Law's feelings on the matter, he suspected the man had ulterior motives of some sort. He just hadn't worked out what they were yet.
The hospital visit had unfolded almost exactly as he'd expected as well - with one exception. He'd known the staff would turn him away before they'd stepped foot inside the hospital's halls and he'd felt the hatred and cruel words of its workers coming as they screeched over Corazon's outraged protests.
What he hadn't expected was how badly the words still managed to hurt him. He'd thought he was beyond feeling anything but the ever-present rage by now, thought with the death of everyone he'd ever loved already behind him nothing could hurt again. He'd been mortified and furious to feel the tears that welled up in his eyes in the split second before he'd sprinted from the room. Why did it hurt so much when he'd known it was coming all along? Why did their words or anything else matter when he wanted to badly to just be done?
And why of all things did he feel such a sharp sting of betrayal from the man who crouched before him now?
I told you, Law thought. I told you, and you didn't listen. And now he hurt when he didn't want to feel anything besides the anger that had brought him this far, and here was Corazon shrugging sounding remorseful one moment and yet turning around and suggesting they'd do it all over again tomorrow.
Well, not if Law had anything to say about it. He didn't know what Corazon intended to do with him in the improbably event of his survival, but it wasn't his problem. There was no way he was going to let this man put him through the pain and humiliation he'd been dealt today all over again.
Law didn't know where he was going to go when he slipped out of whatever room Corazon procured for them tonight, but it didn't matter. He only had to get away. And to do that, he'd have to play along until the man drifted off to sleep tonight.
"Whose fault is that?" Law bristled at the subtle barb. He wouldn't smell bad if Corazon had just left him alone! "I didn't ask you to bring me here," he reminded the tall man through gritted teeth, but he willed the hurt and scheming from his features as he fell into step behind him.
The final barb he threw in was simply for the sake of acting normal, Law told himself. It had absolutely nothing to do with him being a petty brat.
"You smell way worse than I do."
a little something thing for a little Law // @misfitsandmusings
❝ Sorry, I really thought—❞ He stops, releasing a tired sigh as he looks at the boy, knees nearly touching his own shoulders as he sits in a squat. Rosinante’s eyes are sympathetic as he slowly raises a hand to rest on his traveling companion’s head for a quiet moment.
❝ We’ll find another place. ❞ His hand drops away and the towering man stands. Seemingly out of nowhere, a cigarette appears clutched in long fingers, followed by a lighter. Somehow, for once, he manages to light the stick without also lighting himself on fire.
❝ For tonight, we can stay in town at an inn. You need a bath… ❞ He pauses to inhale, then Rosinante’s head tilts back, nose pointed toward the sky as a soft stream of smoke pours from painted lips. ❝ And I could use one too. ❞
