Breaking my radio silence to hurl this fantastic animation (imho) to the Tumblr masses so it can get the love it deserves. :D My reaction (TLDR I can't stop singing its praises): +Beautiful animation and visuals. Love the intentionality and realism to the set pieces (machinery gets used for cover). I loved how the weapons had heft, the droids felt mechanical and brutal, the clones were simultaneously vulnerable and incredible. They felt like real soldiers with real fears and the drive to protect each other. +Cody gets to use his jetpack and rifle. It's about time! +I think my favorite moment from the short is the sunlight coming through the larty door and Cody's demeanor changing from brooding to thoughtful and present, before he looks at his men with pride. That scene just oozes everything good about Cody: Seeing the good moments and appreciating them, living for them. Appreciating and being there for his brothers, what they've accomplished together and who they are as individuals. And there are numerous moments throughout the short of his men showing their individual drive and flair, putting those skills to use. +The fight gets a bit desperate and I'm not entirely certain of the story behind it (Cody kinda fights a bit recklessly, though it surprises the droids and pays off in the end). I feel like they were sent there to investigate a dilapidated and 'abandoned' droid depot, and obviously it was a trap set up by Grevious. I'm a bit anxious as to knowing how they'll get out of there alive but I also remember well the one episode in CW where like three or four 212th boys pile on top of Grevious after the Droid General spider walks at them, no less. +I loved the little nods to the Gendy Tarkovsky Clone Wars animated series. The Squad Seven-esque entrance, the Grevious jumpscare, the dilapidated droid depot. I also felt like this was a parallel to Astartes, which I adore also (it got me into Warhammer 40k lore). :) +There was a lot of thought and care put into the character models. I love how realistic they are. Things like seeing the weathering on Cody's face, the grubbiness of the 212th's armor, the way the light hit the different materials --- it really told a sub-story about where the war is at and what these characters have been through up until this point. +Camera angles were great. They elevated the scenes into something akin to Andor or other thoughtfully shot shows or movies. The angles all had a purpose --- from establishing the staging area to giving Cody's charge at the droids extra momentum and scope (watching those B2 bolts whip after him had me on the edge of my seat). I appreciate the skill and awareness of Hoplite for not just creating these shots but using them masterfully to create pacing and feeling.

+ The music felt gritty and very Doom-esque. I think it's fitting in the sense that many might find the 212th's effectiveness and badassery a surprise. If there is any doubt of these two things being true of the 212th, the music puts that to rest. >:D Rip and tear until it is done! XD I also listened to "Tenet - Trucks in place," "Darktide - The Immortal Imperium," "Darktide - Disposal Unit (Imperium Mix)," and more just for a different vibe while rewatching this short.

Fun Story to Share.

I got my (now 18-year-old) daughter into Ao3 back in 2021. I taught her she should always comment - even if the fic looks old or abandoned or whatever. She did.

Well - she got this email this morning:

The fic was written in 2014 and essentially abandoned.

Bethy read and reviewed in 2021 (and was actually the only person who had commented at all).

Today in 2025 - the final chapter was posted by the author and this was her reply to Bethy’s comment.

To anyone wondering if it's worth it to tear down fascist posters or whatever. I spent a few months last year engaged in silent battle with another student at my school who was putting anti trans stickers up everywhere. I had it down to a system where every night I would walk the five block radius they went up in, and tear down all the ones I could reach, and use a stick to put duct tape over the others. Like, within hours of the stickers going up, I would have already purged the whole zone. I knew the basic schedule of whoever put them up based on when and where the stickers appeared. I probably could have found them in person if I'd wanted to. And I told all my classmates and friends what the stickers looked like and got them to rip them down too. And after a few months of this, the stickers slowed, and then stopped forever.

My point is, a lot of this fashy or right wing stuff is one local weirdo. And if you pay attention, and do a little light organizing with your friends, you can basically make their efforts into a giant sisyphisean exercise in misery. You control your streets!

Fiction is not reality.

You can enjoy things in fiction that would be awful in the real world. Like playing a murderhobo in a game! In the real world, being or supporting a murderer-thief would be pretty damn awful, while in the game it's just good fun. Same with anything else you choose to do with the pixels on the screen, like kinks that don't affect anyone real, so they're okay in fiction, but would be pretty damn bad in real life.

No one else is responsible for your online experience. They are required not to harass you, but they are not and never will be obligated to not post about ships, kinks, or tropes you dislike just to avoid you seeing them. It's up to you to blacklist words or phrases, block tags, or even block users as needed to avoid seeing content that upsets you.

No one can force you to read anything against your consent. Any content you don't like seeing can be instantly avoided by closing out of the offending post/fic.

You are not owed an online experience free of discomfort.

Nothing that happens in your imagination can ever make you a bad person. Words you write or read about fictional characters will never make you a bad person.

The claim that media consumption influences real-life behavior is intellectually dishonest and serves only to excuse the behavior of real offenders.

Fiction is a safe way to explore horrifying or confusing concepts. Therapists agree that fiction, even (or especially) about taboo topics is a good coping mechanism, especially, but not exclusively, for trauma survivors. Fiction is to adults what play therapy is to children. This doesn't stop being true if the work in question is of a sexual nature.

Sex isn't an inherently worse or better motivation than anything else. A work written to create feelings of arousal isn't dirty, shameful, or in any way less pure than works written to entertain, provoke moral questions, or for other reasons. And worth noting is that multiple purposes can exist in the same story, especially fanfiction.

You aren't entitled to an explanation for why someone reads, writes, or otherwise enjoys certain works, kinks, tropes, ships, etc.

This little love letter to some of my favorite writers has been bubbling in my mind for a while.

A few years back I stumbled onto Tumblr and onto some writers whose writings I really enjoyed. Some have become friends though the years.

I used to voraciously read and reblog. Then health issues and family issues have caused me to step away from being online. I’ve tried to come back several times, but it’s been a struggle. I love to read, but that has been difficult to do with brain fog, fatigue and inability to focus. I’ll leave it at that.

It makes me sad to see that it seems that lately some of the writers I follow have been getting very little interaction on the stories they’ve written. Some have decided to stop writing.

I wanted to let you know that your stories impacted me. That they live in me. That I wonder about the characters you wrote. What happened to them? Where will they go next? What will they discover now?

@wild-karrde …One Step at a Time lives in my heart. Chuckles and Arni and Nita are precious to me. The image of the pale pink petals caught in the breeze when Order 66 came over the comm, that juxtaposition of peaceful beauty and the horrific . I loved how Chuckles, Arni and Nita became a family, the Ayyshu family. Nita always snacking and Arni drawing and making notes with Chuckles watching over them. There are so many chapters I haven’t read yet that look forward to reading when I can.

And while watching the series finale of The Bad Batch I found myself often thinking of the redemption arc you wrote for Crosshair in Shadows and Shades. I love the complexity of Iden and her sister, the journey they take and the journey Iden and Crosshair take to become a couple and then, more. It was painful and beautiful.

@teletraan-meets-jarvis …I wonder about Wolffe and Issa in Pieces. I love getting to read about the 104th with Master Plo, Wolffe and the Pack. I just started reading the series when I left Tumblr and I look forward to reading more when I can. Also, the Command Chat between Wolffe, Cody, Bly, Fox and Ponds is so damn funny, I can’t wait to read more of that too!

Your writing makes that place come alive. I want to walk there, be there. And I LOVE how you write Rex. Whether with Sinda or with Shepard in your MassEffect crossover Clone Effect.

And The Cottage series with Rebels Rex? OMG yes! I also often wonder what happened in Do You Hear the People Sing. The last part of the series I read it ended with bomb going off and someone with a red lightsaber….

There is so much more I want to say about each story I mentioned and every writer I mentioned. I’ve only got so much energy and focus at a time, so I’m just doing the best I can in the moment.

I know there are fics and writers that need to be on this list that I just can’t think of right now in this moment. I’m sorry for that. Maybe I’ll make a part two to this.

I guess what I really want to say (again) is thank you. Thank you for writing. Thank you for sharing. I know I am not alone in enjoying your stories, that I am not alone in having your stories live in my mind and my heart.

I hope you are well and that you continue to write and share. I wish you Happy Holidays, however you celebrate them and I celebrate you.
