FEARS CONQUERED!!! Banishing all fears we went caving in the ATM caves in Belize. What a stunning but spooky experience scrambling through phenomenal geology. The caves were once used for Mayan rituals...including human sacrafice 😳 Cameras not allowed in the caves so these photos are borrowed but still wanted to share the experience 😋

Next on our adventures were the Tikal ruins. Dating back to around 200 AD they were incredibly impressive. We basically had the place to ourselves which made for an incredible sunset; just listening to the howler monkeys and the beautiful bird song.

Welcome to THE BEST AND WORST TWO DAYS OF MY LIFE! The day after arriving in Antigua to meet Tobes and Jo we set off to climb Volcano Ancatanango! The climb was gruelling, as in 7 hours steep incline on an unforgiving ash terrain 😳 Oh my god was it worth it though, above the clouds we had a spectacular view of the active Volcano Fuego. It's constant eruptions made for quite the backdrop, especially when the sun set and we could see the fiery lava in all its glory! The painful climb wasn't the only challenge though... we camped and attempted to sleep in the -3degree temperatures before setting off at 4am to climb another hour to the summit. Horrendous but the result...Wow. Just wow. The sunrise and view were incredibly special and I felt so lucky to share it with such great friends ❤

Before Tobin and Jo joined me, I spent a week teaching in Guatemala. I was teaching in a small english school in Palin and was covering classes from 4 years to 40! It was a great week and Ioved the variety of teaching different ages. The town had a real community atmosphere and even though I was only there for a week I felt so welcomed. Palin is surrounded by volcanoes, some of which are active! The one in the photo is Volcan Pacaya. They don't seem to bothered by health and safety so we climb up to the cooling lava and toasted some marshmallows! The final photo is the traditional way to eat an orange...peel the skin, slice in half and fill with paprika and salt! Mmmmmmmm.

A magical two weeks spent with Ed exploring Costa Rica. We managed to squeeze in so many adventures from white water rafting, horse riding, ziplining, volcanic hot springs, seeing TONNES of wildlife, surfing, hiking and snorkeling. The best thing about it all though...being reunited with Ed 🤗😍😝

I had a very memorable month teaching in Cofradia, Honduras. The best bit…the children. They have a zest for life, happy spirits and kind hearts. Children love coming to school here and love learning, especially English. They recognise how important this education is for them to have a future which isn’t ridden with danger and violence.
The English being taught here is fully dependent on volunteers, these are the teachers unlocking a brighter future for the children. I spent my time here for a month covering classes and working as a resource teacher. This allowed me to work intensely with select pupils and groups that are falling behind academically or have behavioural needs. This was a deeply rewarding experience for me, especially because being a class teacher of 30 means that having consistent daily 1:1 with struggling children doesn’t happen as often as it should.
I had two particularly memorable experiences with specific children. The first was with a girl from 3rd grade who when I met her was unable to read. After 4 weeks of daily 1:1 tutoring she read me a story. It was a short and basic story, but she was able to read it! It was so special seeing her face of pure delight and amazement, she couldn’t believe she could do it, but she did. The other was a boy in 5th grade who was disruptive in class and struggled to focus. Working with him over the weeks and see his confidence improve, his pride in his work increase and his self belief in English grow was an incredible feeling.
With the amazing teaching experience came a whole lot of dust, dirt, bugs, heat, electricity outtages and cold bucket showers... things I will not miss!! Such as life!
There is no denying that Honduras is a dangerous country due to the corruption and gang problems going on. I wasn't ever directly in danger during my stay but you can see it and feel how it clouds the country. Hopefully the problems do not stop the amazing work the volunteers are doing here with these children.

I spent a few weeks in the cloud forests of Panama teaching the locals. It was a great experience for me to teach adults as it is something I have never done before. I think I was learning just as much as they were! I can also safely say my spanish is improving...ish...un poco.

The San Blas islands in Panama were pure paradise. Stunning 360 views, crystal clear warm waters, no electricity, peaceful local life... easily the most beautiful beaches I have ever been to.
