the average usamerican "leftist" online genuinely thinks foreign cartoons from the far east are degenerate art that is corrupting western society, and not only do they think this, they think that this is a progressive opinion to hold.

What is lily’s opinion on mlp
On Earth Bet they actually have My Little Bunny instead. Lily didn't have any particularly strong feelings about it until she heard March say "everybunny" one time, at which point she decided she hates that show

Crabs amaze me. They’re the perfect life form, a tank made of legs and living hate-armor. It’s not just about their physicality, though; it’s the soul of the crab. See, no crab in the bottomless history of the sea has ever questioned itself, doubted itself, worried, or been afraid. A crab is pure motion. A crab is pure id and unrelenting forward force. Crabs invented the word violence and they will scuttle on the surface of the world while the red giant of Sol creeps closer to devour everywhere we’ve ever known. They will look into the sky and clack their claws and there will be no fear.

How old are you? Because everyone tends to think the world peaked when they were 23.
I am aware that soberly proclaiming that the world was at its peak (when you were) and has declined ever since (as you have) is the most cliched thing ever, but the period from 1990-2010 really does cover an incredible period of growth between the end of the Cold War and the GFC, it was an optimistic time! but one by one the axioms propping up that optimism have been knocked away, and we face a period of significant uncertainty in an ideological vacuum.
there are of course other periods you could latch onto: 1945-1975 as the heyday of the middle class, the baby boom and rapidly rising incomes and the suburbs expanding and unions not yet gutted, or 1980-2010 for the microprocessor revolution.
there are still positive trends for the future, like solar power prices dropping faster than even the most optimistic projections, and undoubtedly things will look better once we get this damn pandemic under control.
but Cold War 2.0, it’s still a drag, and it was nice to live in a world where we could pretend it wasn’t a thing.

I think a funny thing about Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is how if you never watched/read it you would have no idea that it’s filled Japanese pop-culture jokes that are only sometimes within weeb orbit and sometimes are about baseball players or a politician from the 90s which go above the heads of all overseas fans but it also sometimes added to things feeling insane or dreamlike because you don’t know what’s going on but there’s characters do and I wonder if that’s what a person that has very low familiarity with American pop culture might get out of Family Guy like alright I don’t know what this is but there’s an implied logic
