Well, what was expected just happened. One rollercoaster is over, another has started, so please bear with me while I try to deal with it all, along with the chronic mess of fatique & co I'm in.

What "bear with me" exactly means, idk yet. It all still hasn't fully hit me yet (ngl, the relief over this bad situation being done is enormous, leaving little space for grief over what actually happened), so I'm either gonna be compulsively distracting myself on here or disappear for a while (probably gonna be checking the site but with little to no interactions). It is what it is and I've made my pace with it a while back already, but at least the next few days will be a lot.

Adamas Guilt and redemption for things outside his control His reckless tendencies were a result of being the only survivor of his warband, only thanks to the explosion that knocked him out early in the fight. He felt like he had to make up for it by endangering himself like he should have done back then, instead of "hiding" (read: unconscious and wounded) under the rubbles. Despite getting better at handling those tendencies after risking his life to save many in Fort Trinity, he still felt like he had to fix and answer for things he could not control for years. The only thing that put a stop to it was another close call that endangered both his partners, when whispers-fueled vengeful paranoia made him act even more recklessly in order to prevent another tragedy.

Tocchix Trust and the lack of it He was always one who easily trusted others, but the deep instinctual trust he and Iotta built during years of training and fieldwork together made him feel like they were almost as one despite their differences. Her betrayal was so deep and personal that it made him doubt everything and everyone, but especially himself. It was still in his nature to trust others despite his doubts, but he didn't trust them to trust him, so he quickly isolated himself "for the good of everyone". Rebuilding the ability to trust himself took a long time and pain, as well as reaching a few breaking points and meeting the right person who could help him. It's still a work in progress, but he's not miserable anymore.

And a shared one for the bros! Brotherhood, found family and what it means to them After being found by Tocchix, Adamas got adopted by his family, and they deeply bonded right away despite being both in their late teens. Tocchix had always wanted a brother, while Adamas had to learn what brotherhood is for non-charr and found himself vastly preferring it. They relied on each other a lot for years, as if they had always been family, but Tocchix closing himself off after the betrayal he suffered made things difficult and highlighted their differences, and neither knew how to navigate the space left by the lack of that closeness. When Tocchix finally started improving, their bond was one of the first things that got rebuilt.

🔎 + an OC: themes Lots of themes for my big gal, so I'll keep it to 5 of her main ones

- Unknown chronic illness (the corruption from [redacted]) and learning to live with its damage (recovery from temporary issues and memory loss + knowing the magic she didn't want is all that keeps her alive)

- Letting go of grief/the past (the loss of her mate and warband, as well as her old life and self) and learning to embrace the new good/the present (her new powers, the family she found, and life has now)

- Loss of identity and the search for a new one VS becoming something bigger than oneself at the same time (hard time dividing herself from "the Commander" leads to her hiding in that identity to avoid grief)

- Leaning what motherhood is for her (charr don't really do parenthood, but she craves it after seeing her mate be a mother to her cub and losing everything -> becomes an awkward mother to all who are "motherable")

- Being given power she never wanted (Glint giving her powers she doomed herself with, being made Commander despite never wanting to lead, being chosen by Aurene as her champion despite her previous failure with her mother, etc), its consequences and trying to make up for her mistakes

The combination of 'unnervingly flawless self-control' with 'occasional tendency to engage in reckless, dangerous, and borderline self-destructive or death-seeking behaviour' in a character is SUCH catnip to me

ELDER DRAGON WEEK 2025 - Cycle

I've been traveling recently without much free time, but I finished this piece up today just in time to participate in @gw2communityevents's 2025 Elder Dragon Week.

I don't have writing to go with this piece, but the big inspiration was the parallels between Aurene and Caithe; the scions and the sylvari, and where they stand without the looming presence of the Dragon Cycle to inform/define their purpose, origins, and family.
