The energy's familiar. Rin shows it when he - ...showed it when he got close, Miko never once hesitated, even Five gets a little too giddy which means getting a little too close. At the least, he tries to meet every attempt with a glare or swat of his hand.

This attempt is met with a smile and a tiny, soft chuckle. It's really not that bad. Being 'petted.' It's... warm, even. So dreadfully wonderfully warm. The eagerness adds to the feeling. Another little thing wedging out the idea he'll never have real friendship.

...For the record, this didn't make Mitch smile, he didn't like it, they're never doing this again. Soft's never a word used to describe him.

"Alright, alright, enough of that," Dennis is not too much, but Mitch is embarrassed all the same. His free arm gently pushes at Dennis's head, the other withdraws half way, hand resting on the ginger's other shoulder. "Better be grateful."

It goes against everything Dennis knows about Mitch, but he can't bring himself to care much about that either. Mitch has initiated a (half) hug; A tiger has finally accepted pettings from Dennis.

The American boy can die happy now. He might die frozen, thanks to how uncertain he feels about doing anything to return the gesture.

Would a full hug be too much? Should he keep it simple at a half hug? Does he stay still? Does he say anything?

A returned half hug felt like the best decision in the end. It was safe and matched the energy Mitch was offering first. So, Dennis giddily and eagerly threw his arm around Mitch's back and squeezed, grinning so hard his cheeks ached from the strain.
