my seb anatomy/specbio Thoughts. Although this is like the first time I've done something like this so a good amount is fudged lol

Various Thoughts Of Mine

His neck gills are surface level and don't go through to the throat. I couldn't think of a way to get them to go all the way through without compromising the sternocleidomastoid.. So he has spiracles above the gills that aid in water flowing over them! They're probably a mixture of mantis shrimp, shark, and fish gills to achieve the semi-ambient oxygen absorption.

Surface-level neck gills are what Urbanshade would want for the gill procedure as well, guardsmen having to constantly gulp down water/have their mouths open while underwater is.. way more inconvenient than oxygen tanks.

I think his torso gills connect directly to his lungs with some fantasy logic for his lungs being able to switch between water and air. Torso gills are much better at oxygen absorption, but neck gills + his extended lung capacity are enough for most underwater time he has :3 I think it's like breathing through your nose vs mouth type of a difference for him

His eyebrow muscles connect around where the lure muscles do, so if he furrows his brow it's going to pull the lure down slightly

His flesh teeth are little cartilaginous protrusions that don't have muscle connected to them, but are instead pulled/pushed against by his facial muscles when he moves his mouth

Realistically, his right main eye shouldn't have much of an eyebrow / should be a bit stiff compared to the left one since he's missing enough of a brow ridge for those muscles to attach to. I think the right brow area is a bit delicate spot for him. I initially had the 3rd cheekbone and brow ridge barely connect in the middle of the socket, but after looking at snake skulls, felt it was more realistic+possible for there to be a bit of a gap there.

His lure going red when he's mad is from blood vessels expanding on the skin of the esca, tinting the light red. I have no explanation for the purple lol, he's magic (his [REDACTED} X factor, if you will)

Pulling on it I think could send a small electrical pulse to the bacteria within triggering them to turn on/off

I don't think I pulled off the anatomy the best, but his jaw has some double hinge action going on like snakes do. It can rotate normally, but also move down 2-3ish more inches. His snake jaw muscles go around his ears, so when he's extra-extending his jaw, it affects his ears (yawning :3)

It's really hard to communicate how I think his ears work with drawing but the main upper lobe conceals his ear canal opening at most angles, and the thin skin/2 smaller lobes go behind it/lead into the canal (i might 3D sculpt this later i want to have a good understanding of how this works...)

He has a fat pad on his nose, it's squishy! but he can retract/pull the muscles in his face against his nose which reveals the structure underneath. I think his nostrils are Extremely flush with his face and typically not visible at all unless you're really looking, OR if he's Scrunchin it / flaring them. (if I ever did a Very realistic depiction of him they'd be slightly visible but I prefer my stylization with a completely smooth snout)

i'm insane and thinking about doing medical diagrams (i can't really make long text posts like this on twitter so i gotta do ART if i want people to know my Thoughts) but i wanted to yap about my headcanons really bad so if i ever finish these it'll be a new post

working within the constraints of his canon design to make stuff semi-believable has been really fun, I never would've thought about the spiracles and how surface-level neck gills are more desirable to Urbanshade for the guardsmen gill procedure if I hadn't taken the time to be like waiiit. These CAN'T go through the sternocleidomastoid..but they HAVE to be on the neck

This is an incredible take OP, well done. I have my own theories (which I cannot say due to fic spoilers) but I love this so much!!!

headcanon : sebastian was incarcerated because he produced a false confession, not because of an unfortunate court ruling.

typically, false confessions happen when a person is a) forced to by someone, or b) overwhelmed by the situation. in order to end the trial, theyll confess to a crime they didnt commit. false confessions happen under extreme stress and emotional struggle.

its stated on the wiki that sebastian used to be a much softer person. he was fearful when he first entered prison, and he was a very polite and cautious boy when he was younger. its not unlikely that hed feel too overwhelmed by the court case, especially considering he was only 19.

realistically, sebastian wouldnt have been found guilty. he was constantly around loved ones, he spent a lot of time at school, he had an internship—he absolutely had enough proof of his whereabouts and activities to produce a solid alibi, if not several.

since everyone has unanimously agreed that hes projecting in the STTS ending, lets talk about a certain line: "youre in a hell of your own making." he really is, isnt he? he wouldnt be here if he hadnt broken down. he gave up.

and maybe thats why he believes his family wouldnt accept him as he is now. he confessed to nine murders. they all believe that hes a serial killer.

it would make sense as to why hes so sullen and careful when hes vulnerable with painter. he hates that vulnerability now, because it feels like hes back in that courtroom trying to defend himself and failing.

more than that, he hates being asked questions. he has several introductory lines about not asking questions and not BEING asked questions. although its incredibly likely hes just trying to avoid getting compromised, maybe theres something deeper there hes trying to avoid.

aside from the obvious fact of what urbanshade has done to him, maybe hes also trying to escape for this reason. he wants to rectify it all. he wants to take back what he said.

but he cant, because he really is a murderer now. the moment he killed that guardsman, he realized he could never go back to being that sweet kid everyone knew. "im not the boy they once knew"—damn right.

This happened to me. I was reading one of my WIPs and found several paragraphs missing that I could not explain or remember deleting. I am in the process of backing up and removing everything from Google Docs. I have backed up all of my Pressure WIPs, but I'm afraid of what has already been lost that I am not aware of.

You need to move off of Google Docs!

I know some people have seen the news recently and may be doubtful of it. To the uninformed, Google Docs has started using AI to find "inappropriate" and "problematic" content, scraping your documents and deleting it. I know some people are unsure if this is real or think this is not going to affect them.

I regret to inform you that this is real.

As I was on a call with some writers and we were moving our documents as a precautionary measure, one person discovered entire pages missing that they did not delete themselves. This is happening to us, it's not a hoax or a rumor, it's happening right now. You need to move everything if you want to preserve it.

If you're a writer with writer mutuals, please reblog this so they know. I rarely write on Google Docs anymore, but I started my fanfics on there, and I would be devastated if I lost works more than ten years old because people decided marketing appeal is more important than creative freedom.
