♡ Midsummer Legacy ♡

Yet another Legacy Challenge, wow Miyu, you've really outdone yourself now huh? Anyway.. Welcome back! I've been in retirement for quite a while, but I'm back now to give a (hopefully) more thought out legacy challenge that I will do my absolute best to see through to the very end.

Be prepared, this is going to be a long post, but to summarize this challenge: It's going to be inspired by my favourite holiday from my home country, Swedish Midsummer! It's going to span a few generations, so under the cut you will find more information about the rules, generations, themes, etc. Thank you in advance for giving me the time!

Before We Start ♡ Below I will be listing a few things to keep in mind while doing the challenge.

1. No Need to Stick to Theme! If you feel like you like the rules but not the theme, feel free to change it! There's no need to make all the sims floral, or.. frog shaped.... Just go nuts!

2. Changes to Rules If a rule stresses you out, don't feel ashamed to change it. I admit I ignore some of my own rules whenever I'm having off days, no shame in it.

3. Mods You may mod the game as much as you want! Just make sure you're not cheating any milestones, fears, skills, moodlets, needs, aspirations, or anything that might take away from the challenge! (Change if necessary)

The General Rules ♡ These will be the rules for all the Generations!

1. Travel Fee For every world you visit you must pay 50 Simoleons, this excludes; Active Careers, Active School (be it through mods or via HSY Pack), or neighbourhoods in the world you currently live in. The Travel Fee includes Festivals. Pay up

2. Moving Lots You may not move out from the lot you chose at the start.

3. What happens, happens If you accidentally burn your house down and don't have a fire alarm, do not restart the game! Keep playing, see it as a more interesting challenge or a great option for storytelling!

4. Traits Randomize all traits! Including your Founder!

5. Start with 0 Simoleons!

6. Lifespans I prefer if you play this on Normal Lifespans, but it is ultimately up to you!

Generation One ♡ Flowers in Bloom

Aspiration: Freelance Botanist

Career: Gardener

Generation Goals:

Complete your Aspiration

Complete the Gardening Collection

Have a greenhouse anywhere on your lot

Have your lot be worth 25k Simoleons at the very least before having children

Marry your spouse surrounded by flowers.

Planted in Spring, Bloom in Summer, Wilt in Fall, Buried in Winter. "Keep your head high, Young One. The process will repeat, your flowers will welcome you with open arms next Spring."

I just saw this. I don't use nor link to their cc, but I would advise everyone that does to stop using them completely. Delete their posts and pretend they don't exist. Pretty sure their shit ain't worth using/is broken anyway. At this point they should just be exiled from the community as a whole.

Also, if you insist on using their stuff for some odd reason, only get it from dhm or rebels. Direct people to there if they ask, without naming the creator. There is no point linking on tumblr. You're just going to get your blog deleted.

And here we are again… kit “add-ons” being put behind a paywall for 3 weeks.

Just because you recoloured or tweaked meshes a little bit DOES NOT give you the right to paywall these items.

I’ve also realized that people are doing this more and more. Editing EA meshes the slightest bit, calling them their own and then putting them up for early access.

There are SO many creators that make original meshes, put lots of time and effort into making ORIGINAL content and are not charging people for it. I am all for making money off of your work, but so many creators are blinded by it.

People will support you if they want to. If you deserve it, it will happen, i promise.

well, it finally happened, a big cc creator told me not to put their cc in my sim dumps... it's a creator i couldn't find tou for at the time (and still can't now, just tried for research purposes) so i went with common sense rules like "don't include cc that's in early access" and "don't paywall other ppl's cc" which i obviously would never do. i did change the dl to appease them, but...

i'm feeling torn between wanting to be considerate/understanding and absolute irritation at what this community has become, especially in light of the absurd influx of brand new cc creators who aren't part of the community paywalling their very first posts. i'm thinking about the text post that was going around recently that said something like "imagine if the simblr community was actually collaborative and we shared creations openly" instead of this for-profit entity it's become.

this creator's been nothing but polite so i don't want to seem like i'm after them but they're also making so much money monthly off cc that you'd think it'd be ok to use that cc. bc literally what else is a sim dump. i use a bunch of cc and it's included in the download for convenience, then people put the cc in their own game and everything is exactly the same from there-- your name on the file, your name on the cas preview.

except, of course, the downloader didn't visit your page in the first place, so you missed out on another potential patron/click (never mind the fact that the creators i use for sim dumps are intentionally bigger so people are more likely to already have the cc/know who the creator is, so you probably didn't miss out anyway).

the other thing is that anyone who won't let their cc be used in sim dumps must understand that if everyone else followed that rule, sharing sims with each other would pretty quickly become way too tedious and that entire way of engaging with the community would fall apart. how can you justify a rule that would unquestionably harm the community if every creator followed it? it's both unsustainable and ungenerous.

the bottom line is we need to reconsider how we approach creations made for this game. if you're a creator and your goal is not for your creation to be used, shared, and enjoyed, why are you even making cc? (& money is not a good answer 😀)
