⛰️ - would you live in a remote location? if so, where?

"hmmm... it wouldn't be my first choice, i don't think." hyemi had spent most, if not all of her life growing up in some of the country's largest cities, so that was the kind of environment she felt leagues more comfortable in. "i love a scenic route or a nice view as much as the next guy, but i think i'd get a little stir crazy? or understimulated? plus i like being able to walk most places if i can, which would be a little less practical outside of a city. so i guess it's not for me! not outside of vacations, that is."

🍠 - if you had a garden, what would you grow?

"i don't know if i've ever thought about that," hyemi admitted. her parents' house had a small yard, but they had never really done anything too productive with it. additionally, hyemi didn't consider herself to have anything close to a green thumb. she liked being out in nature, sure, but taking care of it herself? she had killed more than enough house plants to know that wasn't really up her alley. however, she wanted to maintain the spirit of the question, so after a moment of consideration, she shrugged and answered, "maybe it's a simple answer, but i think i'd go for a fruit i know i'd never get too tired of? like an apple or pear tree?"

"uh... i think i am?" the lilt in her voice was anything but convincing. "i mean, it's not like i ever try to lie in like a mean way or anything..." a nervous giggle bubbled up from her chest. "i guess, to answer totally honestly, i just don't like being negative about things? at least out loud? so i guess the answer's no, sometimes... i don't know." she chewed on her lip, frustrated that she didn't have a substantial way to dodge this sort of question. "does anyone really always have their heart on their sleeve? that seems a bit too good to be true."

🌧️ - when it is raining outside, what do you like to do?

"i try not to go outside when it's raining, if i can help it." hyemi grimaced. she used to really enjoy the rain, used to be the kind of kid who'd go out and play in it until her mother dragged her inside screaming about hypothermia or pneumonia or really any kind of cold at all. now she settled for snow and looking up best rain sounds asmr for sleeping on youtube. "i like watching it while under a proper roof, i guess? it's pretty. i just don't like risking getting a bit carried away with the water and all. the last thing i want is my leg halfway through a sewer grate... or worse." hyemi laughed, but the idea of moving water surrounding her was enough to form a pit in her stomach. "while i'm inside, though? i usually study, or read. i also like puzzles sometimes and i'm something of a solitaire fiend. saying all that makes me feel like my mom though..." she furrowed her eyebrows, suddenly concerned that she had the hobby profile of a middle aged woman.

🟣 - what is your favorite color? what do you think this says about you?

"my answer always changes whenever anyone asks me this..." the tail end of the sentence dragged off into a bit of a whine. "there are just too many pretty colors! but right now i'm into pastels, like baby blue and baby pink?" she had very recently made over her lumilog profile to fit her current aesthetic, so those two were fresh in her mind. when she was a kid, she had begged her father to paint her bedroom bright orange, which made staying in it nowadays a bit of an eyesore comparatively. "i guess i like soft things? things that are easy on the eyes? or i'm just indecisive."

😭 - how do you handle sadness?

hyemi's gut response to the question was to scrunch her face up in apprehension. "i usually... don't?" the base answer she settled on wasn't great, admittedly, but it wasn't as though further explanations made it any better. "i don't like crying because if i get weepy then i usually get drippy and that's a whole other kind of mess." even talking about such situations brought a telltale chill to her fingertips, one she had to suck in her breath to stop in its tracks. "so, rather than handling it... i guess i don't do anything? or i guess i just focus on other stuff? i keep myself busy enough that there isn't really any time for wallowing, even if i felt like it." she ended the statement with a noncommittal shrug, pointedly avoiding any further routes for introspection the question could open up.

🍳 - what is your favorite breakfast food or meal?

"hmm...." hyemi pursed her lips at the question. after a moment, she figured it was best to be honest, "is it bad to say i skip breakfast most of the time? no, i know it sounds bad... i just usually only wake up with enough time to get dressed before my morning classes." admittedly, it sounded like a bad excuse, even to her. "when i do get around to it though, i'm a fan of waffles! and bacon! but i'm liable to burn the dorm down if i try and cook for myself, so i usually only eat that kind of stuff when i'm visiting my parents." she punctuated the statement with a sigh and a pout, suddenly feeling a pang of homesickness in her chest.

"my bucket list?" hyemi asked, cocking her head at the question. "it's a bit weird... i've never really considered anything like a bucket list? maybe i'm just not a future-looking person?" she scratched at her temple, feigning awkwardness. despite the inherent danger of the destiny that seemed to be thrust upon every attendee of lumera, hyemi did not consider herself a risk-taker or a thrill-seeker whatsoever. "and i'm a bit of a coward, so we can cross out the obvious stuff like skydiving or bungee jumping or any of that." after another moment of racking her brain, she finally settled on an answer: "i think running a marathon would be fun? if i ever had the time to properly train for one, that is. is that a boring answer?"

hello hello hello! i'm kalo (21, she/her, est) and this is hyemi! she does NOT want to be here, but surely her time at lumera will shape her into a perfectly suitable magickai... right??? until then, she just has to be the disney channel movie character who somehow missed the chance to say "no mom... this isn't my dream, it's yours..." and follow her real passion. tbh, that hasn't even crossed her mind at all! so she's simply accommodating herself to what's expected of her and will continue to do so until she either learns to like it or she dissipates into the ocean or something... three cheers for repression! a more detailed delve-into hyemi can be found below the cut! it's been give or take 2 and a half years since i last did this whole rp thing, so please bear with me while i shake the rust off! (and while i finish up with my semester... lol) i'm very excited to write and have a fun time with you all! feel free to give this post a like and i'll pop into your ims as quick as possible for some plotting!

hyemi is the youngest daughter of her family, her mother is an untrained magi (her companion died fairly early after her powers awoke), her father is a human, and her older sister is also a human.

her mother is essentially living vicariously through hyemi's becoming a magickai, to the point where she moved with hyemi from ulsan to seoul so she could enroll in the memoria of seoul. very pageant-mom vibes. hyemi loves her mom though and is very much reliant on her approval, which is what led her to her compliance re: enrolling at lumera and pursuing life as a magickai.

in reality, hyemi isn't too thrilled with the premise of being a magical soldier, no matter what fancy kind of name it's given. she's very envious of the more normal kind of life her older sister is living back home

her companion is a hedgehog named needles, who is a big pain in her ass and only adds to the pressure to get serious about her training. hearing feedback from someone who knows that all of her studying and training is essentially a front hurts a little more than she'd like to admit, especially considering it's coming from an animal that can fit in the palm of her hand. suffice to say, they don't get along very well.

regarding her powers, her control over them is very finicky, and is very easily swayed by her emotions. please anticipate finding her half-submurged into the ground or various walls. to counteract this somewhat, she tends to wear wetsuits or other swim-shirt adjacent items to help keep her in one piece, to middling results. at least it stops her clothes from getting wet? #styleicon. her minor power lets her turn whatever part of her that's water into ice, but she mainly just uses this to punch things a bit harder. she's admittedly no strategist.

her fighting style is very upfront. her powers aren't conducive towards offense on an especially grand scale, and fit more towards the role of a facetank, as her water form absorbs most forms of pain.

on that note, has been taking boxing and self-defense lessons since the awakening of her powers (she uses it as stress relief, but it has synergized with her up-close fighting style and the fact that her weapon is a pair of gauntlets)

maintains a very packed schedule both to distract herself from her general sense of dissatisfaction but also to exert some form of control over what she's doing at lumera (ie: her classes, her extracurricular lessons, hiking club, working at soap and suds, etc.) she's very particular about her schedule and about punctuality in general!

on a social level, hyemi is very much a people-pleaser, and thus takes great pains to not show off her frustrations with her current lifestyle. however, this leads her to be evasive and pretty resistant to forming substantial connections with people... whoops! she tends to shape her behavior to fit with other people and is definitely more of a follower-type than a leader-type. however, her temper is a bit of a ticking time bomb at this point (though, the fuse is pretty long!) so it probably will all blow up in her face eventually. hopefully it won't all land on the wrong target?
