Hestia couldn’t stop smiling. Though she usually hated to have all the attention on her, she did love her birthdays. Everyone just seemed so happy, and that made her happy about it. “Thank you so much, that’s incredibly kind of you to say! Have you had anything to eat or drink yet? I think there’s cake.”

“It’s just the truth.” She glanced around absently, shaking her head. She really only meant to drop off the gift and leave but that seemed a bit rude, and cake might be nice. “I haven’t yet but it all looks very good, so I think I will.”

“See, now you’ve got your priorities in order. Butterbeer is fleeting. Nail varnish is - well, slightly less fleeting, but it gives you an edge when you’re talking other people into buying you butterbeer, which is much more fun if you ask me.”

“I’ve tried to live my life with my priorities in order - nails first, then butterbeer.” Liliane laughed, tucking a strand of hair behind her ears. “I haven’t actually experimented with talking people into buying butterbeer for me but it does seem reasonable to say that the varnish gives you an edge.”

“Who here is excited for the Quidditch match? I’m 99.99% sure we’re going to win. Well… 100%, but i tried to maintain that .01% of skepticism for my health.”

“You know, I am excited about the match. I’ll be cheering the team on from the stands. It does seem that maintaining a bit of skepticism would be a wiser option too - rather than becoming overly confident.”

“Can’t believe Valentine’s Day came and went and I only ate seven boxes of chocolate. Last year it was ten.”

“So last year was better than this year then? Or is it the other way around?”

Doe shifted, knowing she’d either spend Valentine’s alone at Hogwarts, with her friends at Hogsmeade or alone in the Three Broomsticks. “Hmm. Seems fair. I try to celebrate people as often as I can, but, it’s not really called a celebration when it’s happening on a daily basis.” There was a soft, gentle smile on her face only overtaken by her impulsiveness that ticked over and over as she glanced at Liliane.

“Wouldn’t that depend on your definition of celebration? If it must be something raucous and wild, then I suppose it doesn’t make sense to say you celebrate on a daily basis. But if you mean that you show the other person how much they mean to you and how much you love them, shouldn’t everyone be celebrating on a daily basis? I should think it would make more sense to do it that way though - you shouldn’t make a point of showing how much you love your partner just once a year. And that’s what this holiday turns into so in my opinion, it defeats the purpose of having the holiday in the first place.”

“Liliane!” Hestia exclaimed with a grin that shined as bright as the stars on her dress, and she pulled the other girl into a hug. “Thank you so much! You didn’t have to get me anything at all, but thank you anyways!” She swayed side to side after breaking the hug so the skirt would move and cause the stars to light up again, “My father had it made special. He said one of a kind like me.”

Ordinarly, Liliane didn’t like hugging very much but this was an exception and she returned the gesture gently. “I wanted to,” she said, a little surprised at how true the words were. Seventh year must be turning her sentimental or something. “It suits you, and it must be even more lovely since it’s one of a kind.” The dress was special enough that it warranted being custom-made. “And it’s true as well. I’ve never met anyone quite like you.”

   “Yup!“ for the first time he didn’t want to rant about himself. Frank was worried for other people right now, and he at least hoped Liliane wasn’t as troubled. “How outrageous people can sometimes be is a perfect start, for example.“ It was a subtle blow towards his mother, but he wasn’t just ready to reveal the whole fiasco with her.

“Outrageous? Do you have any specific examples?” She tugged at a curl thoughtfully, trying to think of one herself. “There was a fifth year in the library the other day who overturned a table. That seemed rather outrageous to me, although I’m sure she had her reasons.”

“Why, yes, it is my birthday and this dress is new and extra special for that reason!” Hestia  waved a hand over her galaxy themed dress before giving a twirl to show how whenever she did, the stars that were littered around the skirt of the dress lit up. “Do you like it?”

“Happy birthday, Hestia,” Liliane said with a smile, holding out a small parcel. It wasn’t much, just some stationery that she thought Hestia might like. “That’s a very lovely dress - the stars are so beautiful!”

“No, I can’t get you free butterbeer at the Broomsticks. My friendship perks are strictly affection, nail varnish, and getting your exes kicked out of the Broomsticks, and one gets bumped off every time you ask me that.”

Liliane covered a laugh as she watched the sixth year slink away, raising her gaze to Camila when it was safe. “I suppose you get that a lot? Not from me though - your nail varnish skills are more than enough, in my opinion.”

   “As the king of procrastination, I can assure this will NOT work. However,“ Frank got out two little chocolate frog boxes and gave one to Liliane. “We can rant how hard school is, while we procrastinate.“

“I suppose I’ll have to take your word, as the king of procrastination.” A genuine smile crossed her face as she took a chocolate frog. “Thank you, Frank. I appreciate that. And the ranting will be lovely too, won’t it?”

“Hmm. Someone seems less than thrilled about this whole affair.” Dorcas muses aloud, tilting her head with a sudden rush of thoughts whirring around her brain that caused her to dig her heels in. “Why’ve you never seen the appeal? Isn’ i’ meant to be the day where you celebrate those you love, both as friends or as lovers?”

Liliane smiled faintly and dropped her head, eyes focusing on her hands for a moment. “I’m not one for celebrating in general, honestly. I’d rather show my love on a daily basis than spend one day making an obnoxious affair out of it.” Of course, that was a little more difficult when a person didn’t have many friends or any romantic interests at all.

“It’s Valentine’s next week, isn’t it?” Dorcas questioned, a gentle smile on her lips as she cast her mind back to last Valentine’s day.

“So it would seem from the decorations everywhere. I never quite saw the appeal.” Of course, much of that had been because she thought her marriage would be arranged, so she didn’t see the point in the holiday - and then, after Luc, she hadn’t wanted to participate.

   “To procrastinate or to do something productive - that is the ultimate question.“ He said, screaming internally, because he had no idea what he would gift Alice for Valentine’s day.

“I feel like I should advise you to be productive but seeing as I’m not . . .” Liliane said lazily, glancing over at him. This mood had lingered far longer than she expected but she wasn’t as worried about it as she had been before. “Perhaps a little procrastination would help you be productive in the future?”

“Oh how I missed you, Hogwarts and your stairs that are on a mission to test my patience,” Lorcan said, forcing a laugh past his lips. 

“I’m sure Ravenclaw would be pleased to hear that her stairs continue to test students even a thousand years after her time,” Liliane said with a sigh, trying to calculate how long it would take her to get to her next class now.

“I’ve been old a while, then,” Lily said with some flat version of a smile - almost a grimace, really. “Never liked it much. I’ll gladly step back and celebrate everybody else’s birthday, but - oh, actually, I like that. I’m giving it away. Oi!” Ey shouted, “Happy birthday, everybody else!”

“Perhaps you’re just an old soul. That sounds a little better, I should think.” Liliane wasn’t sure if she had always been like this - although she could remember very extravagant parties that her parents threw when she was a child, so it was quite likely. Startled by the shout, she took a step back before she caught herself and covered it with a self-conscious laugh. “That’s actually a nice idea though, I think - just celebrate everyone else instead of us.”
