I'd been avoiding watching the fall of the house of usher because usually flanagan wrecks my shit and I'm crying my way through half (or more) of each of his shows. turns out not so much of a problem with this one. emotional connection to the characters, who needs her. we can make this ride go on fake catharsis for bringing down the fake purdue pharma/sacklers.
was gonna do a poll about next painting but then i scrolled through my wip ideas and was like oh. there's a whole mess of things i might want to do in there. imagine that
okay so that post about the mundane reasons houses might seem like they have something spooky going on, submit baby opossum playing in old farm equipment
ok seeing as i had a bit of a fixation on documentaries about the truly awful things that led to the opioid crisis it's a little... on the nose, that the fall of the house of usher is basically word for word'ing the usher company as purdue (makers of oxycontin)
DUPIN
You knew the extended release formulation created abuse potential. You knew it was highly addictive. You marketed it non-addictive anyway because you wanted more than the hundreds of millions you were pulling before Ligodone hit the market.
*stares into camera*
- purdue (makers of oxycontin) claimed less than 1% of people got addicted based on a handful of sentences letter to the editor (link to letter in NEJM) in a medical journal about patients taking short term narcotics in a hospital environment and called it a study
- the package insert said "Delayed absorption as provided by oxycontin is believed to reduce the abuse liability of a drug." no proof - just believed.
that's a choice, mr flanagan. i guess it's a way of spreading (sort of) education about the opioid crisis while also making your spooky little stories
had about 85% talked myself into starting spn over (i'm nervous, don't ask me why, my anxiety is a creative bitch) but last moment pivoted to starting the fall of the house of usher instead. enjoying all the regulars new looks and mid-bite into my dorito, krycek?? mark hamill perhaps should be more startling, but i'm just never expecting nicholas lea
finishing up this true detective painting and i have no idea if there's much interest out there for it but i'm feeling pretty pleased with how it came out
