Character Spotlight: Dream Drifter
Art commissioned from the amazing @hellspawnsparks!
Dream Drifter isn't one of the main characters, but she's definitely got a role to play. On the outside, she doesn't seem all that powerful, just weird; she lives on her own out in the middle of nowhere, is a bit of a hippie, and regularly zones out of any conversation. She spends most of her time sleeping, as well. Only her special cutie mark, which cascades down her leg, belies her true potential.
You see, while she sleeps, Dream Drifter can visit a special "dream world" that lets her enter the dreams of anyone. Any creature who dreams can have their dreams entered, and no spell can block it. What a being dreams about, combined with how they feel about the dreams, can really tell you something about their character...
Furthermore, Dream Drifter can alter a dream at will once she enters it. She primarily uses this power to get rid of nightmares, especially in children. This power can be used for other things, too, such as sending messages.
However, Dream Drifter is very much a neutral party. She's nice to those she meets, but her refusal to work for a cause can be quite irritating to some. She also refuses to denounce anyone as evil, instead telling everypony to look at things from an outsider's perspective. She's very empathetic and an avowed pacifist. If someone antagonizes her, whether in the physical world or the dream world, she will simply leave. She doesn't see the dream world as any less real than the physical world, and in fact, she thinks that if any world were "real", it would be the dream world, since it exposes the true thoughts and natures of everyone, and everyone are equals there.

off topic (sorta)
screw it, cringe culture is dead (to me, at least)

So yeah, seeing some special collector ponies at a used stuff store gave me the final push I needed to start collecting again! I bought two: Pop Art and Peacock. My next target will probably be Silver Rain or Autumn Skye.

Character Spotlight: Sweetie Belle
Here comes our first main character spotlight! I'm going to do all six main ponies eventually, as well as some villains, side characters, and others, but I'm going to gradually commission art for them and wait to make their posts until the art is done.
With that said, here's some art of G6 Sweetie Belle, commissioned from the awesome @hellspawnsparks!
Sweetie Belle may be the second youngest of the main six, but she's already living on her own; she supports herself by operating a tiny stall at the market, where she sells various sweets. She also works part-time at the Sweet Shoppe, and before the plot starts, she spends most of her spare time with her friend Starsong.
Sweetie Belle is a kind, hard-working unicorn who's always willing to lend an ear to a struggling friend. While she can be surprisingly cynical at times, she generally has an upbeat demeanor. She's great at baking and making various sweets, and she dreams of someday upgrading her stall to a full-blown patisserie. Making sweets has been her passion since she was a filly; a former neighbor of hers, Cinnamon Breeze, taught her everything he knew, and though she doesn't have very many fond memories of her hometown, Cinnamon Breeze's lessons were always the highlight of her day.
You see, Sweetie Belle's cheery, supportive disposition hides a dark secret: her parents are Sugar Sweet and Winter Snow, two power-hungry unicorns with a taste for dealing in forbidden magic. When the two were found out, they fled Unicornia and moved to the infamous city of Tambelon. Sweetie Belle was born and raised in Tambelon amidst villains and scoundrels, but she always felt like she didn't belong there, and when she was old enough, she moved to Ponyville and stopped speaking to her parents. She doesn't like to talk about her past, and she usually just dances around specific questions.
One thing she usually outright lies about is her cutie mark. While she says it grants her a talent for making sweets, her special power is actually mind control in the form of making ponies agree with whatever she says. Her parents kept making her use this power for their benefit as a foal, but she always hated it. To this day, she refuses to use her power unless it is absolutely necessary, and even then, she'll try everything else she can think of before resorting to mind control. She is of the firm belief that a pony's decisions should be up to them and them alone.
Sweetie Belle is drawn into the plot when Silver Swirl botches the ceremony, which creates a shockwave that breaks the anti-dark magic barrier around her room. This allows a message from her father to get through, telling her that he's been imprisoned in Grogar's dungeon and begging her to save him. Though Sweetie Belle tries to ignore the message and carry on with her new life, she can't help but feel guilty about it. When Silver Swirl comes to Ponyville, Sweetie Belle quickly befriends her, and then the other four as well. The six ponies grow close, and perhaps they might be trustworthy enough to learn Sweetie Belle's secret...

The Main Cast's Families
In this post, I'll be explaining the families of the G6 main cast, as well as discussing the family dynamics.
Firefly is adopted and has two moms, Cloud Climber and Paradise. All three are pegasi, and they live in a tiny village called Gossamer on one of the Butterfly Archipelago's many islands. While they no longer live in the same house — Firefly moved out pretty recently — they're still within walking distance from each other. While Firefly has never felt unloved or unwanted, she does wonder what her biological parents are like, or if they're even alive. She has no memories of them, and while the whole situation doesn't bother her that much now, it used to tear her up as a filly. She didn't feel comfortable talking about her feelings with her moms, so she tried looking for information on her parents on her own, with no results. Still, she considers herself lucky: not every foal gets adopted, after all.
Silver Swirl initially lives with her parents in Prismtopia, the capital and largest city of Unicornia. Her father is named Copper Glow, and her mother's name is Silver Rain. She also has an older sister, Silver Glow, who lives in Ponyville. Silver Swirl and Silver Glow were never very close; in truth, Silver Glow was jealous of the attention her "perfect" little sister got. After Silver Swirl botches the ceremony and is sent to Ponyville, she moves in with Silver Glow. It's a bit awkward, to say the least.
Minty was born to a mare named Mistletoe and a stallion named Peppermint Crunch. Mistletoe eventually died, however, and Minty only has a few (treasured) memories of her. Peppermint Crunch remarried, pairing up with a mare named Blossomforth, and the two had a foal and named her Flower Flash. Minty doesn't get along too well with her stepmother and half-sister, and though her father says he wants the whole family to get along, Minty can't help but think that really, her father just wants to put the past — including Minty — behind him and replace it with something new. Minty moved out at a rather young age, and she now lives on the opposite side of Ponyville from her family. She still has a very good relationship with her maternal grandmother, Candy Cane.
Wind Whistler has two little sisters, one of which (Whistle Wishes) is a unicorn. The youngest, Thistle Whistle, is a pegasus. The parents are Windy Wisp (a pegasus) and Moonstone (a unicorn). When they divorced, Windy Wisp took the pegasi daughters with her to her home village of Morpholu in the Butterfly Archipelago, while Moonstone took Whistle Wishes with him to Prismtopia, leaving the house in Ponyville empty. The two sides of the family don't get along and rarely interact. Wind Whistler moved to Ponyville as an adult, since it reminds her of her early foalhood. She still feels like she could've done something to stop her parents' divorce, though she tells herself that this sort of thinking is irrational.
Sweetie Belle's parents are two unicorns who moved out of Unicornia before she was born, and Sweetie Belle now lives in Ponyville, far away from them. She doesn't talk about them much, and her friends don't even know their names.
Bright Eyes lost her father when she was just a filly, but she doesn't really mind. Her mother, Gingerbread, is her closest confidant and is always there for her. Bright Eyes feels like she doesn't need any other family, and she'd rather not have anyone disrupt the perfect balance between her and her mother.

Lore Spotlight: Cutie Marks
In this world, ponies are born with their cutie marks. All pony races (ponies, pegasi, unicorns, breezies, sea ponies, and twinkle-eyes) have cutie marks, and they view it as a mark of ponyhood and the races' unifying trait.
Ponies are often named after their cutie marks, but they may also be named after their coloration, the circumstances of their birth, or anything their parents want.
Each pony's cutie mark bestows upon them a special talent or power, in addition to those granted by their race. For example, Cinnamon Breeze was born with a cinnamon roll cutie mark, and he soon discovered that he had a talent for baking.
These powers aren't always so clearly shown by the mark. Kimono's cutie mark is a lantern, and her power is to "shed light on" various subjects; basically, she has extremely good memorization and information retention skills, and she's also great with context clues and implications that might fly over other ponies' heads. Rather indirect mark, right?
As for the main cast...
Firefly's cutie mark is a firefly with a blue lightning bolt coming from its tail, and it gives her the power to glow in the dark. Firefly thinks it’s a stupid and useless power, but it does come in handy in dark places.
Silver Swirl's cutie mark is a swirling silver nebula, and it gives her the power to make portals. Though she likes her power, she can lose control of it if she’s not in a good mental state. When she has a panic attack during the Rainbow Restoration ceremony, she accidentally creates a portal in the middle of the wand that summons and controls the Rainbow of Light, leading to it breaking. The portal is only open for a few seconds, but Silver Swirl manages to peek through it and catch a glimpse of Bright Eyes in the Jewel Caverns.
Wind Whistler's cutie mark is two eighth notes surrounded by a swirl of wind, and it gives her a talent for singing. Wind Whistler acts like she doesn’t care about her musical talent and buries herself in her studies, but she secretly dreams of becoming a pop singer.
Sweetie Belle's cutie mark is a pink heart with a gradient black swirl. She insists that it gives her a talent for making sweets, but she's not being honest at all.
Bright Eyes's cutie mark is a telescope, and it gives her the power to see through illusions and shapeshifting. She doesn't need to concentrate or do anything special to use this power, and it's always on, so she's not always aware that she sees something different than the others do.
Minty's cutie mark is two candy canes arranged to make a heart, with a ribbon wrapped around their bases. Unlike other ponies, Minty’s special talent didn’t make itself apparent when she was a foal, and at the beginning of the gen, it still hasn’t. Minty acts like this doesn’t bother her, but it really weighs on her self-esteem.
Cutie marks are such a big part of pony culture that most ponies can't conceive of giving theirs up, but it is possible, albeit hard. It's said that if a pony sacrifices their own cutie mark in the pursuit of other magic, they will become a witch. Witches are often the villains in books and fairytales, and though ponies like to pretend that there are no witches anymore, they all know that there are indeed witches, and they could be lurking anywhere.

A new wind is blowing through the land…
Sweeping through the grasslands and forests of Ponyland, where all are said to be welcome…
Rippling the upper waters far above the Undersea, home of the sea ponies and the ancient ones who dwell even deeper…
Calmly rustling the leaves of the Butterfly Archipelago’s many palm trees, breathing new air beneath the wings of the native pegasi…
Spreading pollen to each and every flower in Breezie Blossom, where the small but mighty make their homes…
Moving further still, through the less populated parts, the icy wastes and the long-dormant volcanoes…
Touching the tips of the spires in Tambelon, the city rumored to hold as many villains as it can fit…
The wind does not reach the Jewel Caverns. How can it? To the ponies enslaved underground, those who had even their eyes taken and replaced with gems, wind is a distant memory, or even a story of the old times. Even so, if they close their eyes and listen, really listen, they might just hear the wind near the cave entrance so far up.
Now the wind blows through the mountains of Unicornia, the homeland of the Rainbow’s traditional guardians and custodians. Here it is that a ceremony will end in disaster, causing a chain of events that will change this world forever — hopefully for the better.
Firefly, Silver Swirl, Minty, Wind Whistler, Sweetie Belle, Bright Eyes…
When the six heroes meet in the backwater Ponyland town of Ponyville, the legend will truly begin.
Welcome to a world where the old is spun fresh alongside the new.
Welcome to Gen 6.
Hi! This blog is my attempt at a fanmade MLP G6, and it will include all sorts of things, such as notes on the setting, character spotlights, story arc ideas, and more! I also plan on bringing the characters to life with commissioned art. I already have somebody in mind for the ponies, but if anyone knows someone who could make an MLP-style map, please do tell me. I hope to write the main story as a fanfic one day, if my writing schedule allows it.
I’d also really appreciate some asks to help me flesh things out, so if you have any questions about the ponies or the world, please do ask.
In fact, I think I’ll do a poll about which region I should post about first! If I don’t get any votes, I’ll just do Ponyland first, but I hope it doesn’t come to that.
Update: it came to that :(
