Tols holding Smols.

-Tols holding their Smols close to their chest for them to feel safe and sound. The Tol’s heartbeat drowns out the majority of the background noises, and helps to calm them down.

-Tols holding their Smols in the palm of their hand with their fingers curled so the Smol doesn’t fall off. The Smol is able to hear and feel a faint, yet steady, pulse.

-Tols holding their Smols in a fist to provide them with more warmth and comfort, as if you were to wrap yourself up in a multitude of cushy blankets.

Absolutely agree with this and it's important information.

Out of moderate concern and slight curiosity, do you see people who are subs getting to abusive relationships more than regular people, and what is the difference there? Where do you help people draw the line and get out?

um… that’s a tough question. It’s also one that I can’t answer, because it’s a question of statistics, proposed under the lens of personal anecdote. And I feel like those things are essentially mutually exclusive?Kink is something that there is NOTORIOUSLY little research done on, for a myriad of reasons (like funding! No corporate interest really wants to have their name attached to a BDSM study)

On the subject of abuse? I feel like it’s just as easy to spot in a BDSM relationship as in a vanilla one (read: tricky, and context dependent).

If you’re worried about a friend, ASK QUESTIONS. Approach the situation with interest, and not judgement. In my experience, the best thing you can do for a friend in a potentially abusive situation, is to remind them that they’re valued, that they deserve Love, Respect, and Happiness, Keep reminding them of this, and hopefully they’ll start to believe it for themselves.

It’s hard, but another thing to remember is that, it’s Their life, and you can’t forcibly eject them from a situation that you think is bad for them, trying to break apart a relationship that they’re not ready to end is a fast track to get your friendship dumped in the trash bin. And also, assuming you know what they need better than they do is straying right into abuse territory.

If you were looking for some stock red flags that maybe someone is less a top and more an abuser in tops clothing;

Aftercare is not optional. If there is no aftercare, it’s not BDSM, it’s probably abuse. MIND YOU, EVERYONES AFTERCARE LOOKS DIFFERENT. but if someone rigidly says they ‘dont believe in aftercare’ or ‘don’t do aftercare’, get the fuck out of there!

There should be NO stipulations on when ANYONE is allowed to safeword. EVER.

DON’T PLAY WHILE ANGRY. JUST DON’T FUCKING DO IT. NO EXCUSES.

Gatekeeping is a HUGE red flag. BDSM looks wildly different from individual to individual, and demanding your partner be the fantasy in your head about what a Dom/sub looks like is a sign they don’t know WHAT THE FUCK THEY’RE TALKING ABOUT.

(softer red flag here) there’s nothing wrong with preferring to play only in private. But if your partner has more experience than you and refuses to ever go out to kink events (including munches/coffee meetups that don’t involve any sort of play) and they’re consistently refusing to put themselves in a position where anyone else in the room might have more authority than them? There’s a strong chance there’s something shady going on.

It’s not BDSM if there wasn’t negotiation. Negotiation, like Aftercare, can take MANY forms, negotiation between two people who have never met before, is going to look very different from negotiation between a long married couple, but it should Always be there in one form or another.

Also, while we’re on the subject, we do see a lot of talk within the BDSM community about toxic/abusive Doms, but I feel like there’s nowhere enough discourse on toxic subs. These can sometimes be a bit harder to spot based on the nature of the dynamic, but Tops can also be taken advantage of. All these red flags still apply whether you’re a top or a bottom, (Tops are also allowed to need aftercare, allowed to safeword for any reason, shouldn’t be expected to fit the ridiculous fetish fantasy image of ‘A TWUE DOMME’ that a sub might have in their head, and on and on)

Thank the gods he finally took me with him... xD
