FRVelion Recommendation: When should you change your Bike Engine oil?
Changing bike engine oil depends on the types of oil used by you during the last oil change.
· If you are using “mineral-based bike oil” for your bike then you need to change your bike engine oil after 2,000 miles. But in case you do not use your bike regularly, then you can change the oil at least twice a year.
· But if you are using the “semi-synthetic bike oil” then you have to change the bike engine oil after 5000 or 6000 miles.
· For those who are using the “fully-synthetic bike oil” can change the bike engine oil after 7000 to 10,000 miles.
However, if you travel long distances daily or uses your bike every day then you need to change your bike engine oil very frequently whether you’re using fully-synthetic. Semi-synthetic or mineral-based motor oil.
FRVelion Tips to Consider While Changing Bike Oil
Here FRVelion sharing some tips which you need to follow while changing your bike oil: -
Prepare for the Process
· Before changing the bike oil, gather all the things which you need for changing the bike oil. Things include the new oil filter, new engine Oil, drain pan, measuring beaker, basic toolset, funnel, and cleaning need some spare rags.
· Before proceeding to the next step, keep sure your bike is on the centre stand.
· Putting a bike on the centre stand, it is easier for you to reach the bike engine and ensure the bike’s stability.
Used Oil Disposal
· The next step comes to the disposal of the used oil by draining it onto a drain pan carefully.
· Make sure to know where is a valve from which the bike oil drained because different bike models have different valve locations.
· With the help of the wrench to remove the Drain bolt and allow the used bike oil to run out.
· Now you need to tilt the bike at an angle of 45 degrees and hold the bike for some minutes.
· Repeat the same process again and again until you are sure that the used oil has been drained completely.
Replace with the new oil filter
· While removing the old oil filter is careful as during the process there may be ‘oil spillage’.
· Before replacing the old oil filter, rub a small amount of new oil on the new oil filter. Doing this process, it slides into the engine very smoothly, and also it will be easily removed in the next oil filter change.
Now pour the new Engine Oil
· Now you have to refer to the service manual that accompanied your motorbike then measure the bike oil needed in a beaker.
· Open the valve and place a funnel for aiding the flow of the engine oil.
· Now finally pour the fresh new oil into the engine and then start the without revving. You need to do this step as it will allow the new engine oil to circulate easily.
Car Engine Oil Vs Bike Engine Oil
You all might have heard that not all oils are the same. This is very true when it comes to bike and car engine oils. For those who are riding bike newly, it might be tempting to them thinking changing bike engine oil is the same as changing car engine oil. Maybe you will think what the difference is after all oil is oil, but it is not like that using the wrong oil for your bike can seriously damage your bike. While pouring oil process may be the same but the formulation and the purpose of the oils are different.
Car Engine Oil
· Car engine oils contain the lubricate additives and viscosity modifiers that generally help to increase the car’s engine efficiency.
· Car engine oils also contain “detergent additives” whose ash content is relatively very high. If this is used in the bike engines then these will result in the formation of the deposits on the valve train as well as on the piston crowns.
Bike Engine Oil
· Bike engines have smaller sump than the car engines so their oil volume is also smaller.
· Bikes run at a higher RPM as compared with the car engines (sometimes double) and also have a higher operating temperature. High RPM use, smaller volume, and high temperature can put more strain on the engine oil, which is far more than the automotive applications.
Bike oils are formulated to manage the transmission, more precisely, the wet clutches found in most of the bikes. To protect the engines, the oil needs to be slippery enough, but not too slippery. This means they strike a perfect balance between the engine, clutch performance, and transmission protection. This is something that is generally not considered in the manufacturing of car engine oils.
In simple words, we can say that bike engine oils have different “Viscosity profile” as compared with the car engine oils because bike engine oils need to be thin when cold, just for the easier starting and for cold flow and it needs to be thick when hot just to maintain the adequate film strength.
Conclusion
According to the FRVelion, changing the bike engine oil depends on a variety of factors like if you are a hardcore rider and use mineral-based oil then you need to change the oil after 2000 or 3000 miles. As compared with the mineral-based oil synthetic motor oil last longer and you need to change the oil after 5000 to 6000 miles.
FRVelion suggests you to always check your bike’s oil level. Having clean bike oil is good but maintaining the correct amount of the oil inside the crankcase is always better.
Also, make sure while changing the bike oil that there should be no leakages around, and properly check all the screws that they are tightened & unlikely to leak. With the help of the spare rags, clean any remaining bike oil from the surface of the bike.

Know your Engine oil grade
Do you know what grading of oil like 0W20 or 10W40 means? Various grades of engine oils are 0W20, 0W30, 10W30, 10W40etc., it looks confusing, right? Let’s break it down and have close look at the grading. But first, we need to know what type of oil to be used?
There are 3 basic types of oils:
1. Mineral Engine Oil:
Petroleum products are used to make mineral oils and it is preferred for the older models of vehicles. Low oxidation stability is the main characteristic of Mineral oils due to which it needs to be changed frequently. As it is not the best quality oil for vehicles, it is very cheaper than other types of oils.
2. Synthetic Engine Oil:
Synthetic oils are best suited for high-performance engines as it is made up by mixing several synthetic components. Using synthetic oils, you don’t need to bother about changing oil for a longer time period as its life is longer than mineral oil. For example, mineral oil runs for 3k to 5k km on the other hand Synthetic oil can go for 12k to 15k km. For the best protection for Indian driving conditions, synthetic engine oils are proven best.
3. Semi-Synthetic Engine Oil:
We can say that semi-synthetic engine oil is a mixture of both mineral oil and synthetic oil. It means it lies between mineral and synthetic oil. Its life span is about 7k to 10k km. It gives the benefits of both, better performance than mineral oil and a better price than synthetic oil.
Now, let’s come to the point we left at starting… Grade.
We usually see on the packs of our engine oils something like 5W30 or 10W40 is written.
What does that actually mean?
This grade is based on the viscosity.
Engine oil is graded by keeping its viscosity in mind which is notated as “XW-XX”.
Let’s understand with an example, let’s take 10W40,
Here 10 stand for the rating of oil at cold temperature. It denotes that the oil has the maximum viscosity of 10W at the low temperature. Here the letter”W” stands for the winter not weight.
The 40 in grade denotes its viscosity at high temperatures. When the temperature gets high the viscosity of oils goes down. Always keep in mind that, the lower the no. the thinner the oil: For example, 30 oil is thinner than 40 oil at high temperature.
Now let’s answer a question that:
What are the different grades of engine oils?
1. 0W40: In the Indian market, this grade is considered as the best performance oil. Its performance is most efficient in both cold and hot climate as it is having the lowest sludge. For modern-day petrol and diesel car engines it is ideal grade oil.
2. 5W40: For diesel cars, this oil is considered as best. It can perform almost the same as 0W40 but not in cold climate conditions. As we all know diesel cars take a longer time to start when it is in cold weather.
3. 10W30 or 5W30: For petrol engines, these are the ideal oil grades. They give good fuel efficiency and are very cost-effective. They have a low viscosity which works best with modern petrol-driven engines.
4. 10W40: This is very cost-effective and very suitable for the Indian climate. Mineral and semi-synthetic variants are available in this grade. It gives a very efficient performance too.
5. 15W40 or 20W50: Usually they are recommended for older engines. Oils of these grades are quite thicker than other grades of oils.

FRVelion’s Bike Maintenance Tips: To Keep Your Two-Wheeler In Top Shape
As we all know that how the personal hygiene is important for us, likely regular bike maintenance is very important or we can say a basic step towards guarantees your two-wheeler will remain in the pink of its health. Much the same as a human body, dismissing the prosperity of your bike will just prompt dull execution, visit breakdowns, and adverse effect your bike's roadworthiness and your security.
Keeping a bike in good condition isn’t all that difficult. If you follow the basic maintenance schedule, the bike will perform well and it depends on us that how many years we wanted to keep it new. There is no need to mention that if your bike well then it will attract the handsome resale value when you sell it. IN this article we have mentioned few tips for maintaining the bike.
On-Time Replacement of Fluids
Know the inclination when your throat is dry and how your body needs to fall when you're dehydrated? It's the equivalent with a bike when it's running or hasn't been renewed with indispensable fluids which are fundamental for its smooth activity. Guarantee that all fluids, including the FRVelion motor oil, FRVelion brake oil, FRVelion coolant, and so on are supplanted are on time.
It is alright to be additional cautious and supplant them somewhat before the suggested interval. Though, delaying the replacement schedule will lead to expanded dull performance, low efficiency, wear-n-tear, and in case you're extremely apathetic, a breakdown in the middle of nowhere.
While topping up, ensure you use manufacturer suggested, top-notch engine oil/ fluids. If you choose to change to an alternate brand, other than what has been determined in the manual, ensure you adhere to the suggested evaluation, viscosity, and temperature parameters indicated for your bike’s engine. Keep the chain clean utilizing a de-greasing item and lubricate it at suggested intervals. Utilize a chain lubricant in particular and don't pour any irregular oil or grease to get the job done.
Regular Services
You have to follow your bike’s manual to the 'T' with regards to visiting the service station for a periodic maintenance stop. Converse with your service advisor and tell him about any known issues the bike’s been confronting. When the job has been done, take the bike for a spin to determine if every single reported issue has been settled and each job referenced in the final bill has been finished. If any significant part has been replaced, request the damaged component to be returned to you. If possible, conceivable, demand for the replacement to be completed in your presence and guarantee parts replaced are genuine.
Signs of Aging
When your bike begins to get old, you should invest significant time all the more frequently for the regular visual inspection. Check for any cracks in the cables or if any of the bulbs have been flickering or sparkling at half their capacity. Notice for any changes in the bike’s performance or any odd clamors from the engine when you ride. In any case, if there's any such thing occurring, visit the service station quickly and get the bike checked as it could be an exhausting clutch or bearing or something surprisingly worse. Check the tires for their track and overall health. Check the wheels for any curves or splits and get them checked for arrangement and balance at regular intervals.
When the battery begins getting more older, it loses its charge rather rapidly and will give up on you eventually. Get it supplanted with another unit whenever required. If in any case any of the control switches or levers look or feel fragile, supplant them. Same goes for the footpegs if they’ve gotten loose, have become excessively scruffy, and don't lend much confidence when you rest your feet on them. You have to check the side stand for its tightness and guarantee it hasn't changed its angle to a lot throughout the years, making the bike tipping perilously while it rests on it.
The fuel filler cap can become ill-fitting or its important mechanism could turn sour with time, permitting fuel to evaporate gradually or water to enter when it rains. Supplant it with another one or fix the current unit if conceivable, since the start key and the filler cap key are generally normal. Try not to disregard the mirrors and guarantee they hold their adjustability at all times. Fix the stem if it's loose or supplants the whole unit if the glass lodging hangs free.
Riding Style
An enormous part of bike maintenance likewise includes your utilization pattern. Ride the bike as per its character and abilities. For example, riding a high-torque bike continually close to its redline is pointless if the engine generates its peak power at a much lower point. So also, on the off chance that you routinely maximize a small capacity single for extended durations, its parts will destroy quicker because of overheating. Frequent cycles of sudden braking, violent gearshifts, and rough gearshifts will bring about expanded wear-and-tear of all major parts. Abandons saying that pulling off wheelies, burnouts, and stoppies isn't just perilous for your own and others' wellbeing, it likewise negatively affects the parts of your bicycle.
Regular Checks
These are easily overlooked details that go far in guaranteeing that your bike remains in a solid-state consistently. Guarantee that the bike is cleaned and you play out a self-check after each long excursion. At the point when you park it, do as such in a place where there's a decent measure of shade. Uncovering your bike to coordinate daylight will ransack the paint of its sheen and cause the plastics and rubber segments to solidify and create breaks. Check and maintain tire pressure frequently. Try not to run the bike in a nearly vacant state frequently. On the off chance that it comes equipped with a FI system, the fuel pump’s life gets diminished radically.
Conclusion
Above FRVelion has given good tips for maintaining the bike so that it remains new for a long time. FRVelion has the best quality of Motorcycle oils that keep your bike’s engine at the best working state.
