Cobalt Blue
Mom - Do you remember I used to be scared of cobalt blue, when I was little? It seemed to me like dark, endless water. But it was your favourite colour. You loved your collection of celestial blue cups so much.
Cobalt blue has new meaning for me now. It feels like rich, endless love. I want to wrap myself in it and watch the stars to be close to you.
-
This work is about falling apart from grief and coming together again, with the help of loved ones. The skull mask discarded, a part of the past. The rising sun vest, winged shirt, and cobalt blue cardigan, donned in its wake. The eye watches it all go by. Take it in now. Life is short.
The vest, shirt and yarn were all made by friends and family.

The mask I made - Man Eater
The outfit was put together and modelled by my fantastic friend.
The mask itself is about my frustrations with men putting their emotional expectations on you.
How you are this beautiful, mystical creature to them, until you say you don’t feel the same, and then you become a monster.
So in this mask I’ve gone heavy with the love motif. There’s lots of hearts worked into the design, and even little broken hearts on the ears.

Pinned Bugs
This work for me personally is about how the media views trans bodies as something to be compared and put on display.
The obsession with whether or not someone has had which surgeries, and fetishizing us for certain qualities we might physically have.
The frogs may appear cute and relatively harmless, but they are ready to swallow us whole.
The bugs themselves are based off of Alberta species that are native to the area, as I was working in an artist residency at the time of making them.

Finally took the photos of this gal.
It’s a needle felted commission for a friend. It’s his character from a homebrew dnd campaign, her name is Kunai and she’s a Nargacuga that loves fighting using granades.
The hand granade is a magnet

Right now I’m at my residency in Lethbridge Alberta.
Im about halfway through, and it’s been an incredibly productive time.
Being from British Colombia, everyone looked at me with a lot of shock and confusion when I said I would be heading to Alberta for the month, it’s not really a place that’s well loved where I’m from.
I have been pleasantly surprised by this prairie city. The art scene here is alive and well. People are friendly and happy to chat about your art.
I still have some galleries and art I want to see with my time here. Which I will be talking more about on my TikTok.

Just finished a little vacation visiting my friends. I’ll be starting a residency program tomorrow. Very excited to show the studio space and where I will be staying for the next month.
For now, my plane has been delayed and I’m killing 4 hrs in an empty airport

This is Aisling! A big dream dragon. At approximately 6ft long, this makes Aisling a very snuggly friend.
They bring the best of dreams to those who need it. She also lights up the dark skies at night. (Hard to get a good photo though 😩)

Hand and Snakes is one of those works of art that make’s perfect sense to me, but other people struggle to know what their looking at.
So what it’s meant to be, is a big hand holding up this snake like creature that has a similar creature connected at the tail end. The work was meant to be about how you can feel one way about your body in the moment, but the emotional fall out can take it’s toll afterwards. How someone’s touch (even your own) can be joyous at the time but the memory can be bitter.

Iona the Selkie In Scottish folklore, a selkie is a mermaid like creature that wears the skin of a seal. Often in these stories, a man will steal her skin, and force her to live as a human (usually his wife). So here we have Iona, a happy, comfortable selkie who is allowed to live as her true self.

More of the star children that I made. Some are more for helping those wake up, and others are more for helping those fall asleep.
I’m thinking about creating more little creatures right now, but focusing on luck? But I also want to make some masks. So my mind is very all over the place, and Ive not got much time before I head off to my next residency.

I participated for the first time in the Swim On zine created by @jeypawlik To help collect donations for http://finfree.org I made juvenile lemon and blacktip sharks, sheltered by a nursery hidden among the roots of a mangrove swamp! 🦈🌿 To learn more about Swim On and see its past issues, go to http://topazcomics.com/swimon/ I also just published the Speedpaint I recorded of this artwork on youtube, if you want to see it!  Hope you like it!✨
