THOR: RAGNAROK Period AU After Lord Odin, founder of Odin & Sons Gold Company, passed away from a mysterious illness, Thor Odinson is forced to come back from his two-year sabbatical to Asgard Hall as rightful heir of the land and the business. This immediately puts him at odds with his adopted brother Loki who, until then, was overseeing the property and operations (to little success) as the acting heir. Friction sparks between both brothers when Thor suspects Loki of his involvement with their father’s sudden demise—until an unexpected visitor, a woman named Hela, changes the game and claims to be their estranged eldest sister and the rightful heir of Lord Odin.

Look, I’ve spent years in a haze, trying to forget my past. Sakaar seemed like the best place to drink, and to forget, and to die. One day. But I don’t wanna forget. Can’t turn away any more. So, if I’m gonna die… well, it may as well be driving my sword through the heart of that murderous hag.

Kinda tempted to write a fic where Thor realizes he's mourning mjolnir more than the warriors and feels guilty and shitty about it. Grief is weird that way

Grief is such a strange thing, that mourning a weapon that was never really alive in the way his friends were, would feel like something of a betrayal.  But it makes sense–Mjolnir was so much a part of Thor’s identity, it was the one thing that always came back to him, it was what he based his entire fighting style on.Look at how he uses it in the fight against Surtur and minions:

It’s shield and sword both.  He uses it even when he’s not physically touching it, he uses it to wreck whatever’s in the way between himself and it (”Sorrrrrrry,” Thor says to Dr. Strange, not one bit sorry.), he uses it to fly out of the fire den or across the span of Asgard.  It wasn’t just smashy-smashy, it wasn’t even just the focusing agent for Thor’s powers.It was something he used in many, many different ways.  It was one of the few constants in his life that was full of so much upheaval lately–between the loss of Loki, the loss of his mother, the loss of his previous purpose in life to be king, Mjolnir was a constant through that.  Mjolnir was there when he made new friends on Midgard.  Mjolnir was there when he wandered the Realms, realizing that their enemies were plotting against them and people were being slaughtered and he could help do something about it.His friend were dear and they gave their lives to protect Asgard, he mourns them, but they weren’t constant companions, they weren’t with him every step of the way.  And yet that doesn’t make it easier to think that he’s mourning his hammer more than he’s mourning his friends, it doesn’t make it easier to know that we mourn in different ways for different aspects of our lives.Just because Thor thinks about the hammer more often (because it was always within reach, it was always a presence in his mind, he always felt it, in a way he never felt anything else as consistently–feeling the lightning and the thunder and the rain and the air help a little, they’re always buzzing at the back of his mind, he realizes Mjolnir was just a conduit for this, helps some, but it’s not the same and it still needs time to adjust) doesn’t mean he loved his friends any less.Sometimes it feels like it does, though.  He knows that’s not true, but it still takes time to come to terms with how he feels like it is sometimes.  And how much he misses the hammer that genuinely was a relationship just as much as his friendships.
