"I am the Walrus" 

If you’ve ever wondered what John Lennon meant by “sitting on a cornflake” in the song “I am the Walrus” by The Beatles, you’d be surprised to know he didn’t know what it meant either. Most of the lyrics to this song just came up to him (could be the acid trips).

They were a combination of various songs he was writing at the time. He knew people would try to figure out what the Beatles meant with their songs, so he wrote verses that didn’t make sense just to see how they would interpret them.

One day he was walking on the street near his home and heard a siren. The verse “Mister city policeman” came up to him as he was following the sirens rhythm. 

He had read a poem in the book “Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There” by Lewis Carroll (Charles Lutwidge Dodgson). The poem was called “The Walrus and the Carpenter” (You may remember this story if you’ve read the book or watched Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland”).  

This poem inspired “I am the Walrus” except years later Lennon discovered the Walrus was actually the villain of the story, and the Carpenter was the good guy. The Walrus represented capitalism to Lewis Carroll.

When Lennon found out, he was somewhat glad he didn’t know this back when he wrote the song, otherwise the title would've been “I am the Carpenter”, and it just wouldn't be the same.
