Not gonna lie, I saw one of this lady's videos awhile back and have been thinking about it ever since, and that may be what inspired me to buy the ax.
But it's turned out to be fun and satisfying as both a useful skill and a form of exercise! And, of course, a great way of exorcising some Big Feelings.
It's interesting to see how much more engagement I get on Tumblr when I post fiber art compared to non-fiber mixed-media work! It's a little bittersweet- I like my non-fiber work too- but mostly it makes me really appreciate the fiber-art community here. I'm glad I came back to Tumblr after several years away, particularly now that the vibes of many other social media platforms have become increasingly rancid.
I'm continuing to explore woodcarving alongside the lace I've been making, but taking it a bit slower because I tend to get excited and overdo it until my hands hurt- I'm trying to take care of my body's ability to keep doing these things as I get older. I'm also hitting a wall of frustration because my improving abilities can't keep pace with my ideas! But I'm getting a little better every day, and I'm excited to see where that will lead- particularly as this winter's weather has capsized a bunch of trees onto my yard, so I have a seemingly infinite supply of wood. (Also working on at the moment: relearning how to use an ax, and gaining some arm muscle for the first time in my life via hauling around logs.)
