this is going to be such a word vomit but i kinda feel like dandadan suffers from the same problem as persona 5 where it does actually want to say something about objectification and violence against women while at the same time spending a lot of time sexualizing their own (often underage) female characters with little to no acknowledgement of the hypocrisy there. there is a zaniness to the way dandadan character's clothes will just fly off and disappear for entire chapters (which tbf is in line with the over all tone of the manga) but it also coexists (and sometimes are the same scene entirely) with scenes like momo's abduction and the bath house scene where there is an earnest attempt to build actual tension and fear about momo being potentially assaulted. i saw a lot of people drop off the dandadan anime full stop after the bath house scene aired, which i actually believe was meant to be almost entirely serious rather than fan service, and that's because of the blasé way the manga handles the objectification of its characters 99% of the time. readers/watchers are prepped to expect such a scene to be at momo's expense and thus interpret it that way
