If aid does not enter to Gaza Strip within the next 48 hours — especially baby formula and flour — then prepare yourselves for the largest mass death crime in history.

This isn't a donation post. I just need people to read this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I keep saying "It's dire" and it keeps getting even worse. I don't even know what I'm asking people to do, just that I don't want this to happen in silence. I want everyone to know this.
I received these messages from my friend Anas, and soon all my other friends in Gaza started crying from the same ache: there is no food in Gaza.
The gist of the messages, shared with permission, until I translate more thoroughly:
Used to be that the problem was that aid was being sold (instead of just given, as it should be) for ridiculous prices. Now there isn't even food to sell!
Most people in Gaza have now gone at least a day without eating. Many of my friends have gone multiple days.
We are now on a timer before hundreds drop dead unless food is allowed into Gaza. This is not hyperbole. This is a countdown to death unless something changes very, very soon.

my timeline on twitter is full of people from gaza saying they're starving. gaza has been deprived of food slowly and strategically for the past 600 days but it has never been like this. even sameer project have said they have not been able to distribute food for the past 3 days. i'm genuinely really scared. i try to give people actionable things to do like donations (which we should all still do) but there actively is not enough food in gaza at this moment even with extreme inflation and it feels like this news is being deliberately buried by mainstream media. it feels like i'm being forced to watch my friends, their parents, their children, people i know, people i'm talking to, waste away right in front of me

UN officials warned on 15 July that Israel’s months-long ‘Iron Wall’ operation in the occupied West Bank has caused the largest displacement of Palestinians since 1967, with 30,000 people forcibly uprooted since January and entire refugee camps emptied under military orders.
UN rights office spokesman Thameen al-Kheetan said the forced uprooting underway may constitute a crime under international law, stressing that “permanently displacing the civilian population within occupied territory amounts to unlawful transfer,” and depending on the circumstances, “could be tantamount to ethnic cleansing.” He said the campaign is “emptying large parts of the West Bank of Palestinians."
The UN said the offensive, launched in January, is impacting several northern refugee camps. Juliette Touma, spokeswoman for UNRWA, described it as “the longest since … the Second Intifada,” and warned it was causing “the largest population displacement of the Palestinians in the West Bank since 1967.”

Help Ahmed and his father
Ahmed ( @mazen-fmaily ) has been fundraising to help his elderly father. His dad faces a variety of health complications, including hepatitis, kidney disease, and heart issues. He relies on machines and ventilators for life support and Ahmed has to keep up with medical payments in order to keep him connected. On top of life support, Ahmed's father also needs daily dialysis treatments and oxygen. Serious emergencies sometimes arise where his father needs surgery.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now Ahmed is also facing medical costs of his own. He was shot at while trying to collect aid for him and his father. He needs surgery to reconnect the tendons in his leg, or else it will have to be amputated. I have not included photos of Ahmed's bandaged leg to hopefully avoid this post being flagged, but if you need to see them yourself, Ahmed shared some photos in this post
Ahmed is the sole provider for his father. His dad relies on him not only for his health, but also to bring him food and water. Ahmed already had to walk long distances and put himself in harms way to find food for him and his dad, but now his leg is injured and he may even lose it.
Please share and donate if you can. Ahmed has a chuffed and a friend is also collecting funds for him through paypal. Donations through paypal reach him faster, so please donate there if possible. When using paypal, please add a note that the money is for Ahmed because Xana is collecting money for other families as well.

The Flint water crisis began in 2014, after lead-contaminated drinking water was found to be leaching out from aging pipes into homes citywide.
The American Civil Liberties Union and the Natural Resources Defense Council, with help from other activists and nonprofits, have released statements on the recent progress, celebrating the milestone.
The statements which they chalk up the crisis to “cost-cutting measures and improper water treatment,” that the state “didn’t require treatment to prevent corrosion,” after a “a state-appointed emergency manager” switched the water supply to the Flint River.
There is no safe level of lead exposure; each nanogram causes harm. In addition to long-known risks, such as damage to children’s brains and certain cancers, there is also significant evidence that exposure to lead is linked to numerous cardiovascular diseases, including stroke and heart attack.
The coalition mobilized the citizenry and filed a lawsuit against Flint and Michigan state officials to secure safe water. The result was a settlement in March 2017, under which a federal court in Detroit ordered Flint to give every resident the opportunity to have their lead pipe replaced at no cost, as well as conduct comprehensive tap water testing, implement a faucet filter distribution and education program, and maintain funding for health programs to help residents deal with the effects of Flint’s tainted water, according to the NRDC.
The coalition then returned to court six times in six years to ensure the city and state kept to the timeline, which was delayed by COVID-19, and other reasons which The Detroit News described as “spotty record-keeping” and “ineffective management.”
On July 1st, the State of Michigan submitted a progress report to a federal court confirming that, more than eight years after the settlement, nearly 11,000 lead pipes were replaced and more than 28,000 properties were restored where the maintenance had taken place.
Of the 4,200 buildings where lead pipes are known to still be in service, their owners have either left the properties vacant, abandoned, or have declined the free replacement under the Safe Water Drinking Act. The coalition has said it will continue to monitor city and state progress on these remaining lines.
“Thanks to the persistence of the people of Flint and our partners, we are finally at the end of the lead pipe replacement project,” said Pastor Allen C. Overton of the Concerned Pastors for Social Action, one of the organizations that sued the city. “While this milestone is not all the justice our community deserves, it is a huge achievement.”

It's wild to me that full-featured character customisation has been paraded about for decades in AAA spaces as the true litmus test of whether a game takes open-world play seriously and a lot of them still treat playing as a woman the same way Baldur's Gate treats playing as a gnome.

Okay fun facts about Barsaat’s grandfather, Balbir, because I’m in a chatty mood.
He is the youngest person of their clan to become Head Warrior, which he received at the age of 15
His parents died during a war between three of the cities/city states in the Athor Desert. They were caught in the crossfire and he was the only one of his family to survive
Even as a young boy and then man, he was pretty sullen and serious and rarely smiled or appreciated jokes
That changed when he met his wife, Aisha. She was from a different sand ant clan and he met her during the 7-Day festival. They exchanged letters for a year and the man was willing to abandon being Head Warrior so he could marry her
Thankfully, that didn’t need to happen (once she realized how serious he was about marrying her, she agreed to move to his clan)
Aisha was fun-loving, kind, very charming and good with people. People loved talking with her and spending time with her. She could sing beautifully and was a good dancer. But her real passion was falconry and knitting. Rania inherited her love of falconry, and Barsaat inherited her love of knitting
She was Balbir’s perfect foil, and while he held respect because of his skills as a leader, she held respect for her big heart and willingness to help others no matter what
She was the third and favourite daughter of a notable warrior in her clan. It allegedly took Balbir a year of asking her father before he finally agreed to the marriage
It is said in the clan that Balbir “finally knew what joy was” after he married her. He was deeply in love with her
They had one daughter (Barsaat’s mother), and the near-fatal complications from that birth made Balbir refuse to have any other children, as he worried greatly about Aisha’s health
When Aisha died at 40, it was as if her passing took all of the happiness, joy, and life from Balbir. He stopped smiling, laughing, and simply started living for the clan
He had a very strained relationship with his daughter after Aisha’s death
He started to heal with the arrival of his grandchildren, Barsaat and Rania, but that progress got ruined with the death of his daughter and son-in-law
Now being responsible for his grandchildren, Balbir’s trauma manifested in being too strict on Barsaat and Rania and being very tough on them. This was because of his fears of them dying or him dying without anyone to protect them. So he was trying to be tough so they could handle the world, and protect themselves, without him
Barsaat had a very strained and complicated relationship with his grandfather because of it
Rania also had a very complicated relationship with her grandfather because of it, and it also messed her a lot when it came to choosing a partner for herself

Barsaat (right) with his grandfather, Balbir, (middle), and older sister, Rania (left).
In the first pic, Barsaat is 11 and Rania is 13. In the second pic, Barsaat is 21 and Rania is 23.
Barsaat is one of the main characters from my high fantasy romance novel (simply called The Yaksha for now). He's from one of the 5 great clans of the setting and they use giant ants as their steeds/mounts.
