POST PLUS IS COMING, WHETHER YOU WANT IT OR NOT!
Despite the fancy survey, changes to the UI and TOS reveal we’re getting the service in the future whether we want it or not. Obviously, Post+ is a terrible idea that is trying to bank revenue on user content. Unlike patreon or onlyfans, tumblr’s primary focus is on FAN content. The legality of this is NOT in the users favor and as the new tumblr TOS states, said users will be entirely liable for whatever legal matters arise.
SO WHAT ARE WE DOING?
Besides filling out the survey, it’s time to show tumblr we mean business and show our displeasure by hitting them where it hurts.
Ad revenue.
We’re proposing a 24 hour log off as phase one of this protest.
WHEN IS THE PROTEST?
August 6th 2021
12 am Eastern Time (US)
4am UTC
5am BST/London
6am Central Europe Time
7am Moscow Standard Time
9:30 Indian Standard Time
12 noon Hong Kong Time/Australian Western
1:00 pm Japan Standard Time
1:30 pm Australian Cental time
2:00 pm Australian Eastern Time
August 5th 2021
11pm Central Time (US)
10pm Mountain Time (US)
9pm Pacific Time (US)
THE END TIME IS 24 HOURS FROM START TIME!!!
So no posting, no queues, no likes, and no reblogs!
WHAT IF I CAN’T/WHAT ELSE CAN I DO?
Like this post and share it AS MANY TIMES AS POSSIBLE. Use the hashtags #tumblrlogoff2021 or #postplusprotest on ANY and ALL social media.
WILL THIS WORK?
Maybe, maybe not. It’s an attempt at doing SOMETHING.
BECAUSE I’M A TIRED IDIOT, USE THIS TO DOUBLE CHECK YOUR TIME ZONE!!!!

This is the oldest piece of music known to humankind. It’s engraved in cuneiform on a tablet from 1400 BC. And it was a hymn to their goddess Nikkal.

“My point, aside from remarking that both Tolkien and Le Guin are arguing that escape means hope, and hope is one of the great virtues of fantasy, is what Tolkien says at the end of the passage: they are confusing, not always by sincere error, the Escape of the Prisoner with the Flight of the Deserter. Because I think that’s exactly it. The denigration of “escapism” comes from an implicit belief that it is brave and necessary and heroic to face “reality,” where “reality” is grim and dark and nihilistic (“solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short,” as that tremendous pessimist Thomas Hobbes puts it), and that if you turn away from that “reality,” you are a deserter and therefore a coward.”
—
Katherine Addision (aka. Sarah Monette) on “Of Better Worlds and Worlds Gone Wrong (via adribbleofink)
oh, I like this - thank you for sharing.
“And that, I think, is where hope comes in. If we understand “escapism” as the Escape of the Prisoner rather than the Flight of the Deserter, then surely what motivates it, more than anything else, is hope. The hope that the prison is not eternal. The hope of communicating with other prisoners. The hope that if you keep chipping away at the bars long enough, one of them will fall out. And I refuse utterly to classify that hope as weak or foolish.”
(via broadlybrazen)
I especially like the Ursula LeGuin quote: ‘it’s our plain duty to escape, and to take as many people with us as we can’
As someone who loves happy endings and hope (but ALSO let’s be clear misery and weeping in the hills) and who loved Sarah Monette’s work, I am super looking forward to reading Katherine Addison. ;)

Okay so clearly Tumblr is blocking the posts about the #ActiBlizzWalkout cause my reblogs aren't showing up on my dash - anyway don't cross the virtual picket line folks and let's stand up for women and marginalized groups in the gaming workplace.
Avoid these games/companies, thanks

An investigation into the origins of dallasjustice.org reveals a few fundamental questions about their creators.
First, language found on the blog in dallasjustice.org led us to a secondary site which we believe was used to stage, or preview, the site for clients- as is often the case with agency made projects.
This website was located at: http://dallasjustice.aodev4.com/
And has been archived here: https://web.archive.org/web/20210726165513/http://dallasjustice.aodev4.com/
The root domain, aodev4, shares an ip address with another url, "luceosolutions.com"
This website has been archived here: https://web.archive.org/web/20210726153236/https://luceosolutions.com/
The Luceo website is interesting for a number of reasons. First, its "www" subdomain redirects to a recruitment website, and wayback archive links indicate this domain functioned correctly in this way until early 2021. However, with the website configured as it is, we can now see the server root for a company staging server.
A google search for "aodev4.com" reveals a number of right wing campaigns and sources using these links, and the list of websites on the luceo server include noted Dallas astroturf campaign "Keep Dallas Safe."
It is in at least two of these projects that we discover something interesting in the wordpress theme files:
https://web.archive.org/web/20210726164531/https://display-ad.aodev4.com/wp-content/themes/base-theme/style.css
https://web.archive.org/web/20210726161604/https://keepdallassafe.aodev4.com/wp-content/themes/base-theme-child/style.css?ver=0.4.1
Both of these sites are built on the wordpress theme "Understrap", but have had their source files modified in order to attribute development to "AO Dev Team" at the url "http://online.arenacomm.com".
This url redirects us to "Arenawins.com", the website for Arena, a company which supplies the GOP and various right wing campaigns with agency services.
It is our belief that DallasJustice.org was developed by Arena for a client, in order to allow them to attribute statements and ideas to Dallas activists for the sake of driving a wedge between the left and the communities we inhabit.
Like KeepDallasSafe before them, this campaign was discovered due to their own incompetence. We will not allow these fascists and hatemongers to go unchallenged in any space. We protect us.

I find it suspicious that you never see posts along the lines of “cishet people should stop using the word ‘queer’, that’s a word that only queer people get to use.” Not because I think that it’s necessarily true, but because that’s the normal way social conversations around reclaimed slurs & pejoratives evolve. You rarely hear people on tumblr saying “black people/hispanic people/asian people aren’t allowed to say [slur that has been used specifically against them].” Because most of us recognize that that’s nonsense, and that you don’t get to tell minorities which words they can and can’t reclaim.
But tumblr didn’t do that with the word 'queer’. It didn’t go the usual route of discussion around who can and can’t say what. Tumblr just jumped straight into trying to erase the word completely. And that is because the discourse around 'queer’ isn’t a conversation that evolved naturally within our community. It was purposefully (and successfully) created out of thin air from a sudden, relentless onset of terf propaganda. Terfs who hated having a trans-inclusive umbrella term for our community, who wanted nothing more than to disrupt unity. Well congratu-fucking-lations, it’s been disrupted.
#queer was a slur#and then we took it and made it ours#and i am not going to give it back#or let it be taken from me#text post

The Autistic Self Advocacy Network is heartbroken and outraged by today’s court decision striking down a regulation that would have banned the use of the graduated electronic decelerator (GED), a skin shock device used on people with disabilities. These devices, which the United Nations has recognized as torture, involve causing severe pain in an attempt to control behavior and are only used at the Judge Rotenberg Center (JRC), an institution in Massachusetts.
The disability community has fought for decades against the use of skin shocks on our people. Last year, after receiving extensive input from experts and community members, the FDA finalized regulations that banned the manufacture, distribution, and use of skin shock devices. The regulation was finalized four years after it had been introduced and six years after an expert panel had recommended the ban, with strong bipartisan support. Over 300,000 people had signed a petition urging the FDA to act.
Instead of following the new regulations, the JRC immediately filed a lawsuit against the FDA so that they could continue torturing people with disabilities. This lawsuit was only the most recent of a long string of aggressive lawsuits fighting attempts to curb their abuses of human rights. Although the trial court had initially upheld the FDA’s regulations, today the DC Circuit overturned that decision because the FDA’s regulation specifically bans the use of the GED for one purpose (behavior modification). The DC Circuit Court ruled that the FDA has the authority to ban a device completely, but does not have the authority to ban only one possible use of a device. The next step is clear: the FDA must completely ban the GED and similar devices. ASAN calls on the FDA to immediately pursue a new, complete ban. We will continue to advocate fiercely until this torture is finally ended.
Our community is currently grieving and outraged on behalf of the many disabled people who will continue to experience daily abuse as a result of this decision. But our fight is not over, and we are not giving up. ASAN will continue to use every tool at our disposal and work with state and federal policymakers to end the torture at the JRC and all other uses of aversive treatment. We will not rest until no disabled person is subjected to torture in the name of “treatment.”

PSA FOR THOSE IN DC AREA - PLEASE STOP FEEDING BIRDS (JUNE 2021)
An unknown transmittable illness is wiping out many native birds. Bird feeders, particularly uncleaned ones, are a major transmitter of disease. Please take them down for the meantime! Your birds will survive naturally without it - the impact of your ‘help’ could be far worse!

COVID is slowly becoming a "third world" disease. While first world countries are hoarding vaccines, having doses for populations many times their size, third world countries can't get any because pharma companies want to sell to the first world countries first. Even then, first world countries will receive them first. While rich countries recover from COVID, they will forget about the pandemic while many other countries live the absolute worst moment of the pandemic without being able to vaccinate their population.

A friend of mine, a First Nations person here in Canada, has been sharing this petition to hold accountable the Canadian government to dig up the rest of the residential schools to be able to lay their children to rest.
It’s on an official Canadian Government site, so only citizens and residents of Canada can sign, but anyone could share it.

please help spread the word about the indigenous genocide happening in Brazil TODAY
"Brazilian Supreme Court is about to rule an important decision on Indigenous Lands. Today (July 30th), STF resume the discussion of a lawsuit filed by the state government of Santa Catarina against the Xokleng people, concerning the Ibirama-Laklãnõ Indigenous Land, where Guarani and Kaingang peoples also live. In 2019, the Supreme Court classified the case with the status of “general repercussion”. This means the decision will serve as a guideline for the Brazilian federal government and all judicial instances regarding demarcation procedures. The world must watch this judgment closely. The future of Indigenous Peoples in Brazil depends on it."

"Since June 8, 2021, Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous organizations in Brazil have been in Brasilia, the capital, with the Levante pela Terra (Standing up for the Land) camp, protesting against Bill PL 490, which passed the technical juridical board of the legislative house to be approved on June 24, 2021. Bill PL 490 aims to make the demarcation of Indigenous lands in the country unfeasible and to set the year of the Constitution of 1988 as an arbitrary cut-off date for recognizing Indigenous land rights. If the Bill passes, Indigenous Peoples who were not on their land before 1988, due to various factors including forced removal and lack of legal recognition, would no longer have rights to their traditional territories.
(...)
The Bill opens the gate for development on Indigenous lands, including deforestation for large scale cattle farming, mining leases, the regularization of illegal subdivisions in the territories in favor of land grabbers, and all kinds of large scale infrastructure such as hydroelectric plants, ports, roads, military bases etc. It would legalize operations that greatly impact Indigenous territories without their Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) nor benefit-sharing, and represents a new wave of colonization."
BRAZIL IS AN INDIGENOUS LAND. AND IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN.
THE BILL PL490 IS BEING VOTED TODAY, JUNE 30TH. THE LIVES OF THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLES IN BRAZIL AND THEIR RIGHTS TO THEIR LAND IS IN RISK.
THIS IS AN ATTEMPT TO FINISH WHAT THEY STARTED WHEN THE PORTUGUESE INVADED THESE LANDS IN 1500.
please help raising the hashtags #MarcoTemporalNão and #TerraIndigenaFica in your social media. please talk about this.
also check the ABIP (Articulação dos Povos Indígenas do Brasil) website for more information on the indigenous peoples situation in Brazil. the website is available in english and brazilian portuguese.

Israel is demolishing Silwan as we speak. Over 1500 people, most of who are children will be homeless in a city ruled by people that don't allow them to rebuild anywhere. They're making almost 900 children refugees.
There are 40 bulldozers in Silwan and heavy presence of the IOF.
They started with a butchery and arrested the owner of the shop and his two sons during the demolition. Here's a video of the IOF brutalizing the Al Rajabi family, owner of the shop.
Keep in mind this proccess might be long, and they might start with shops instead of houses to wait until the media has moved on. That's 1 out of 17 homes ethnically cleansed.
The IOF is throwing tear gas at the residents so they leave their homes. 13 were injured. While all this happens, the IOF is posting about their delegation arriving to help with the searches in Miami. I have no words to say how hypocrital and how angry that makes me.
There are palestinians right now live blogging their ethnic cleasing, their city being run down and the residents driven out so there's no cultural trace of them, so they can pretend Palestinians never existed there. It's brutal to think these people survived one ethnic cleasing in 1948 and they thought they'd be safe in their new homes, only to be invaded and be ethnically cleansed again years later.
It's a choice to be ignorant right now because several Palestinians in Jerusalem are being brutalized and traumatized to show you this. The best we can do is clog the zionist propaganda so they can't pretend they're not destroying homes, as they always do. I don't want a single zionist to have peace on social media today, and that counts for everything on the BDS list (Ben and Jerry hasn't used social media in over a month because people were commenting about their settlements and the boycott was stronger than ever, that's the energy).
Ask for people to speak because zionists are too comfortable, look what they did to Indya Moore just yesterday. They want palestinians to be quiet victims with no one speaking for them

[Id: tweet by Mohammed El-Kurd reading "I want to see protests in every damn city in the world against the ethnic cleasing of Palestinians in Jerusalem / end id]
Here's a constantly updating list of protests around the world. Show your anger and don't look away, not now and not in one month but until Palestinians can return home in peace.

I love talking about this so here's another instance of me talking about it: during the 504 Sit-Ins, wherein disabled activists occupied federal buildings in 1977 demanding better protections from the US government as they delayed enacting the regulations set forth in 1973's Rehabilitation Act, specifically the section entitled 504, which was supposed to provide better access to education and employment for disabled people, and the accommodations needed for such.
The activists, disabled or sick in a variety of ways, occupied multiple federal buildings across the the USA. The occupation of 50 United Nations Plaza Federal Office Building in San Francisco lasted 26 days, the longest of the protests, and I believe the longest occupation of a federal building in the USA's history.
The protest was spear-headed and led mostly by disabled women, many of them queer disabled women.
The length of the occupation was only made possible by the support of the Black Panthers, who brought food to the activists daily and stood their ground against the FBI when the feds tried to stop them from entering the plaza in an attempt to starve the protesters out. The Black Panthers then proceeded to bring hot meals every day for the rest of the protest, which ended with the enactment of the 504 regulation
Moral of the story: mass movements and protests work better when you have solidarity among various movements who, while initially fighting for different people, are all fighting for a common goal--rights, safety, empowerment, etc--and the Black Panther Party was demonized by the federal government and individual authorities not only because they were they fighting for the rights, safety, and empowerment of Black people, but because they were fully capable of and did bring unity among the many civil rights groups fighting for the individual causes, in a way that would have enacted great change in this country had they not been infiltrated and destroyed from within, arrested on bs charges, or flat out murdered by the federal government.
Anyway the history of disabled rights are unknown even among the modern disabled, the involvement of the Black Panther Party is even less known, and without the 504 regulation laying down the base foundation we probably wouldn't have the ADA so here's your history lesson informing you about all this. And thank you Black Panthers ✊🏿♿✊
